Confession time: I want to be cosplay famous. Now to be famous in the community, but... so I don't have to work. I want to become one of those famous ones who can support themselves and their loved one with selling prints, with doing booths. I've even lost so much weight (I was 144 and now I'm 129. I have 12 more pounds to go) to greaten my chances.

Is this really that selfish of a thing to want? I don't even know how to do it. It's just an urge.

Won't happen. Even the most popular cosplayers like yaya and jnig rely on income from other sources than cosplay, you're better off trying to find something else

What >>7095434 said. Jnig and Yaya do it by having other jobs and even then their other halves provide more of the total income. Alodia manages it by being an Idol model, singer and TV presenter and cosplay is just one tiny part of all the things she does. Even then she has a huge team working behind her. Alisachan, Liz Katz and Ellie Idol only managed to make a career out of it by turning to cosplay porn.

There is not one single person in the world who makes a full living solely from cosplay. Every single person who claims to or appears to gets money from other things or other people.

>> No.7095444

The only people I know of that truly support themselves off of cosplay are top level craftsmen who take commissions like gstq and volpin. Either one of them will tell you it is a shit ton of work. You cannot make a living off of just selling prints. Jnig gets hired by actual companies to model. Yaya had to take a job for a while because she wasn't making enough. Ginny is desperately trying to do what you day you want to and she just comes off as lazy and pitiful. Go get a real job op, you will be happier.

unfortunately this isn't true, I know a handful of girls who only sell prints and little nick nacks and do guest appearances at cons and that is there main income
ie, Nicole Jean
ps - she sucks

>> No.7095458

Do you have big boobs? No? Then get implants. Jnig yaya precious etc all have big boobs.
And if you want to sell prints you need sex appeal

>>7095591
I doubt that she is really living off of that. There's a second source of income, whether it's public knowledge or not.

Even if you were a 'professional cosplayer' it would still be a lot of work. Creating new costumes, traveling, producing new content, convention co-ordination, printing/signing/mailing prints etc. You're not going to be sitting on your ass eating bon-bons. You'd likely end up 'working' 50+ hours per week and closer to 70 hours on a week with 3 day convention.

But technically that is prop making and costuming, not making money off of cosplaying or from being a famous cosplayer.

Well you can always do webcam, like twitch.tv. Your theme being a cute cosplayer and toss in a dash of gaming for some gamer gurl cred. Hey that the thing now, going after neck beards, lonely guys and the oddball lesbo.

The only real work you might have to do is advertising yourself in various forums.

Cross your finger if you are able to nab a saudi prince. Shame i didn't save that picture with the balance $$

yes, that was the entire point, that to make money off of the community/hobby is to put effort into becoming a master at craft, you can't do it just being a whore.

Pretty much this, helps if you can be engaging while talking. Being good at the game is not important.

I wanted to be cosplay famous, until I saw how badly popular cosplayers are monitored and nitpicked.

Not to mention I'm not photogenic at all, so even if I still wanted to, I could probably never make money off of prints.

Wouldn't be surprised, better then wasting a lot of time padding/adjusting for each costume.

This. You can't get that much skin while padding if you don't have any to begin with.

You'd have a better chance at making it big by making adult cosplay videos.

You can't get famous without the sex appeal.

You're in the wrong country. Where do you think the crazy for "Costume Play" came from?

only people who might come close to your criteria are the people doing movie makeup/fx/costume and then that's a job, not cosplay for yourself

I mean with the construction of cosplay. I've been tired of waiting until the last minute, using shitty materials and not making it look good. Basically, I just want to put more effort into making it look good. I'm just mad that I'm still not doing that.

>> No.7096575

So, essentially, OP is talking about being a model with internet fame.

It's not happening. Get a job.

>> No.7096590

>>7095433
first of all, being famous in any way does not constitute the notion that you don't have to work. secondly, being a model isn't easy. it requires a lot of discipline and grace to even be considered "standard" (pertaining to high fashion models at least). to be even famous enough to sustain yourself solely on your cosplay, you would need a "real" modeling gig. that means, not only getting gigs from anime/video game/comic book companies for cosplay, but also doing runway shows, magazine shoots and maybe even commercials for make up companies and designers. simply losing weight won't be enough if you plan on taking this career route seriously. you need good angles and you need to know them, you need to know how to pose, walk gracefully and be balanced, and look GOOD in anything you wear.

if you are talking about both modeling and CREATING your cosplay, then i suggest getting into theatrical costume making and also props/make up. now THAT is a viable career in and of itself.
