Your wig isn't terrible, all you need to do to it is brush it fully to loosen the curls. It looks like it was just taken out of the bag and put on your head, so the curls look awkwardly bunched.

This happens with most curly wigs, it won't remove the curls and it'll make it look a bit more natural if you just comb it through.

Artistic error by the creator and creative license taken by another artist doesn't somehow invalidate what is canon and what isn't. Look at how he used to draw Aradia's horns in the beginning too. Ram-style is more consistent, so we can imagine that's what's correct over the other styles that popped up. If you're gonna pull the "inclusion makes canon" card, then I guess we can all stop arguing about Rose's hair, because it's chin length with more natural bangs as opposed to the stylized hair of the sprite.

If a cosplayer wants to do freckles, fine. Sure. But don't try to justify it because one panel drawn by a different artist displays it. Usually when a cosplayer has to fiercely justify something, they're doing so because they know it blurs the lines anyway and they're scraping for evidence so they won't get nailed for it.

im pretty careful with my props, though, i dont think it snapping would be something id be worried about.

I think PM cosplayers can pull off facepaint better because it's white facepaint and they don't have to worry about doing anything with their eyes. WVs don't have that same luxury. If you had some pictures of other dersites that used facepaint and not zentais, I'd love to see them, but right now my advice is ditch the paint.

The only issue would be eyes, and dead trolls have the exact same thing and a lot of them look fine
The only real issue would be the harsher contrast, but I personally don't think it looks _too_ bad

Contrasting the half-whiteout color of mesh lenses with grey looks exponentially better than putting it against black, not to mention that the exiles' eyes are perfectly round. The darker the paint, the worse something looks imo. Compare a zentai Spades Slick with a facepainted Spades Slick and you'll see the difference.

There's absolutely nothing human about the exiles though, which is why the roundness matters. It maintains their alien look. You can call style all you want, and yeah, sometimes Hussie makes weird style decisions. But style matters here. Like I said, if you have photos of good facepainted dersites, post them. But I think a zentai is vastly superior.

If you're doing the all-white outfits, there's really not much else you can do. Do your contouring right, thicken your eyebrows, toss the headband. A lot of rule 63 Roses don't do much to their hair except tossle it up a little.

I think black face paint can work if you highlight it correctly, though I am more of a fan of zentai masks for exiles. Though my favorite Midnight crew cosplays that used face paint opt more for a dark grey and then contour it with a black, so as everyone else has said, if you want to use black I think you can pull it off, you're just going to have to contour your face so it doesn't look strangely flat.

A flat face with a zentai is acceptable, a flat face with paint just looks unnerving.

Again, I don't know how well it would work for exiles (though I guess it could be an interesting interpretation), I really enjoy the way this Slick contours his face. So yeah, lighter colors just don't turn your face into as much as a black hole as a stark black dose.

The Snoman from above did a excellent job with the highlights on the cheeks, so I suggest if you want to do black, do something like that.

Adding some kind of sealant/reinforcement material shouldn't add that much weight to be honest. But it will greatly increase the durability of your prop. You may be super careful, but clumsysteps mcf*ckbottom over there at the photoshoot may not and last thing you want is someone accidentally busting something you've spent hard time on. Different anon, but I have a tube of Portland Black lipstick (in black obviously) that is completely unwearable because the pigment smears EVERYWHERE when I apply it. maybe you should try powdering it with a little bit baby powder? a lot of the lipsticks i get are cheapo ones that smear the same way so i set them like i set the rest of my makeup and it keeps it from smudging.
