7080213 No.7080213 [Reply] [Original]

I'm currently re-organizing my lolita wardrobe and I'm wondering if anyone has any better ways to hang skirts. At the moment I'm worried that normal hangers are damaging them so I thought about getting clippy ones with foam or some sort of protective cover, I just don't know if they're any good or not.

tl;dr are clippy skirt hangers any good?

I didn't want to start a whole thread just for my question so this might as well be a Wardrobe General Thread.

I use the ones with sliding metal clips and they don't seem to mark my skirts at all, whereas the pinch clip ones do seem to leave marks even when they're padded...

I have the clippy hangers too, and I noticed them pulling on the fabric of my skirts a little. I took the loops for the skirts that are supposed to help them hang well, looped those around the tops of the clips, and then clipped the clips to those instead of to the skirt itself. I do that for five skirts (four of which are on one of those space saving hangers). One skirt hangs by the loops on a normal wooden hanger, and one has no loops, so it goes into one of those flat, long ones that clamps down instead of just clipping.
(I can post pics if I'm making no sense.) Here's a pic of the long, wooden hanger.

>>7080369
I think some things in my wardrobe work well together. Others, I buy because I like them and make it work, but I generally wear black or white shoes and match my purse to the shoes and a couple accessories to get a cohesive look with them. A lot of my accessories can also be used with different main pieces.

I started out with sax and moved onto other colors. I don't have nearly as much sax anymore, since I wanted things that didn't come in that color, but I generally buy cooler colors, since they look better with my skin tone.

It's like the design of the clippy hangers needs an extra clip in the center for added support.

Mine is sorted by brand, but the transition between brands I try to color/style coordinate, so for example my BTSSB/AATP dresses are next to my Meta and I have the black dresses together, then the next transition by print motif, etc.

So I hang my brand dresses and skirts on a garment rack because I don't have a closet, with blouses in a chest drawer but I'm already out of room, and I don't have a door to hang any kind of sorting rack on.... Any tips for spacesaving that doesn't require a closet/door or another chest? I'm at wits end.

I sort my themed accessories by theme. So all the ponies are in one box, all the chocolates are in another box, crowns in a third, etc. Boxes are transparent so I can see what's inside easily. The every day jewellery is on my jewellery tree. So when I dress in ponies I look in the ponies box first, and then fill in any missing gaps with general jewellery from the jewellery tree.

I might just be strange though. I keep my socks with the dresses they match, and sometimes the headbow too -- I put them in a little gauze bag and hang them from the same hanger. It does mean I can't squish as many dresses into my closet, but I don't really want my dresses rubbing all up against each other transferring print anyways.

Every time I see pictures like OP's I get really jealous. My wardrobe is really terrible! It's so small. There's one main section, that has my 'normal' clothes in it. Then there's a tiny side section where my lolita clothes have been put, but they don't all fit in there so I've had to put them in another mini wardrobe in the spare room. My mum got me a clothes rail because everything was getting so squashed but how do I keep it from getting dusty?

>>7082646
You can get covers for clothing rails, I think...

Pic is my closet evolution since the start of the year...(Jan/April/July/today, obviously when I moved house I went from having a tiny freestanding single clothing rack to a double wardrobe which is only half the current wardrobe space in my room) current photo is with everything I want to sell/up for sale removed from my wardrobe plus a couple dresses in the wash. Blouses etc are kept separately and I don't really have many skirts so it's a fair reflection of what I own. I personally think it's pretty hard to tell what the "themes" in my wardrobe are at the moment but I promise you they are there!

Mine is more simple as I can't do much in my rental apartment and it's very small.
I made use of the curtain brackets and hung thick protective block-out fabric, then whatever colour fabric I wanted as a background. I used the curtain tie rope and curtain rods to make a hanging wardrobe. My apologies for the poor lighting, I can draw one up if anyone is interested.
Here is the bare bones of it:

As my wardrobe has grown quite a bit this year, I'm hoping next pay to change the rope for plastic chain, spray it black or gold and secure it properly to the curtain rods. My dresses are so heavy that they do cause the rods to slip down the rope. At the moment it's tied on with knots, glue and zip-ties.
Here is a full loaded shot and you can see the middle of the bar bending, so I'll probably add a third chain length to give additional bar support.

I think eventually I'd like to put them in a proper closet but until I move to somewhere with additional space this has been my best solution to date.

I had a newbie ask this just hours into meeting her; since she's new and obviously didn't have many lolita clothes, I assumed it's because the idea of an entire closet of lolita clothes made her overexcited enough that she dared to ask. I don't think she meant any harm, and it seemed like she only asked me after she ascertained I was friendly to newbies. She probably figured the worst that could happen was that I'd say "no", without thinking it was overstepping social boundaries to ask to see another person's private area.

Trust me, I feel the same way. It is nice to see pretty wardrobes but I get my fix of that from the egl wardrobe posts.

>>7084449
No to both of those. I do think I have soem nice pieces but nothing that is rare or super amazing.
My best friend and I were pretty much the exact same about the whole room thing for ages. It was roughly 3yrs into our friendship when that awkwardness stopped.

>>7084481
I was really new at the time. Maybe they were just trying to size me up?

Pretty much this. The whole thing was just really awkward because I didn't know them too well and because they tried to push it.

Just to friends who have been over. I wouldn't invite a random from my community to see my closet. I wouldn't see a request like that as necessarily rude though. Saying something like, "Wow you always have great coords. I'd love to see your wardrobe some day!" is different to me than demanding an invitation into someone's home to case the joint and plan a lolita heist.

>>7084501
This is probably the most likely situation. Girls who have to fight with their parents to be allowed to wear it and fantasize about spending $300 at Bodyline can't comprehend a whole closet of lolita. My community and wardrobe are both really small but some girls have never seen 12 lolita dresses together even at a meetup and it blows their minds.

It's already been discussed. Just avoid metal because it tarnishes. I keep everything on plain black hangers which keeps my wardrobe organized and looking neat. It's up to you to decide if the benefits of plastic, cedar or padded hangers work for your ward robe or not. It all depends on what you own.

Curious to see what styles, colors, motifs and themes you guys have in your wardrobe?|

>styles
Mainly sweet with a few random classic pieces. I'm slowly getting rid of the super sweet stuff because I find it hard to wear and it doesn't suit me too well. Hopefully I'll have a more casual sweet-classic wardrobe soon with one or two really OTT classic outfits.

>colors
Lots of pink and white! I'm currently adding in more brown pieces and gold accents.

>motifs
Moving towards chocolate and roses but I currently have a lot of bow themed jewelry which I'm culling.

>themes
A chocolate theme seems to be emerging but most of my stuff has some kind of military school-girl styling (neckties, berets, cardigans, etc.)

I've finally figured out what I like and what suits me so I'm really reigning in my wardrobe atm.

gothic with a hint of sweet, classic and punk. I have a bit of everything, but more of the first 2.

Cats, street/house prints, card suits, and some musical themed items (piano keys and sheet music only)
I'm currently selling off most of my music items, but they used to be THE major theme in my wardrobe. I also like velvets and textured items, and wish I had more flocked prints. I also want more stripes in my wardrobe.

I used to be able to do this. Before we got a cat. Then it turned into getting them out of the basket, folding them and shoving them into the drawer before she got her little claws on them.

Apparently, socks wiggle like snakes, because they're the only fucking article of clothing she attacks.

Petticoats? Nope. Lays on them and purrs, but doesn't bite or claw. Dresses? Not a single bit of tulle or lace destroyed. But SOCKS?! Fuck man. They must look like her toys in her little cat brain.

>> No.7097058

>>7093176
I'm not sure how, but my cat usually sheds explosively in proportion to how difficult to de-lint + how expensive a dress is, and will sit on them when they're out on my bed. Thank god she doesn't claw. I tried doing the egl wardrobe theme and she actually just sat on every dress I tried to photograph and purred.
