Honestly, I think it being ita makes sense for Celes. She's delusional reverse weeb. And don't look at it as a lolita dress, just look at it as a costume. The IW Penguin Drum collab was Himari's outfit, and while that definitely wasn't as ita as this, it could still be worn as an accurate cosplay, so I just saw it as such.

I certainly wouldn't drop $400 on this, but eh, it is what it is. Not sure why everyone is so mad.

Same $400 is ridiculous for this(doesn't even come with socks and shoes), but if someone bought it they could easily change the tint of the white, the skirt isn't awful, and then just change the blouse and opt out the blazer and tie.

It bothers me that this is $400 and not even that accurate ex: sleeves too wide, shitty tailoring on the blazer, the ribbons on the sleeves are too big, the blazer shouldn't have lace, it looks like they used a really thick belt, the dress shirt should have a double ruffle on the sleeve, collar is too big.

If they had tweaked it and used better material it would look much better. Still think the skirt is ok for old school.

If you showed this to me told me it was from AatP, I really wouldn't have believed you. Compared to the level of work they can produce, this looks like newbie level costume work. I feel like the same thing happened with IW's Rozen Maiden collab (although that one looks a lot better, but is still too costumey for lolita and still too expensive to buy just to use for a costume). Like I just don't get it, did they just not care enough to put some effort into these things? Why bother making them at all if they're going to look so sad in comparison to their other work?

Honestly I disagree with you, especially with anime "lolita" It's always going to be a costume, but that's the problem really. The dress in OP and suigintou's dress are both ugly and would never work outside of being a cosplay, and I honestly think they did the best they could.

I'm taking no one here has actually seen the prices of official cosplay outfits you can get in Japan? I'm pretty sure I saw an official touhou one go for over £400.

Why are Baby/AATP's collab pieces always so awful? The only collab they've done that I liked was the Disney stuff. The MacrossF ones sucked, I seriously can't think of a collab they've done that wasn't a hot mess other than Alice.

Meta on the other hand really knows how to handle a collab, even the more difficult ones like Hakuoki were classy for what they were, their Macross and Vocaloid ones were great too, and that Kamen Rider set (pic related) is divine.

On pic related I feel it would have been better if they kept the crosses and nixed the awful zigzag hemline instead. Maybe change the crosses to a classier looking design, a screenprint or embroidery in silver or something like that. It would have looked better.

The criss-cross design is necessary but unsavable though, imo.

I really like the Meta x Tim Burton/Nightmare Before Christmas one. People were disappointed it wasn't full on stripes e.t.c but it was a nicely made set that worked fully with lolita and wasn't ita. AATP did a Frankenweenie collab which also looked fine. The problem is that a lot of the time anime x lolita collabs don't work as well as they could, because they don't seem to have a direct market. They're not accurate enough to be for cosplay, and they're too close to the original design to be lolita. Really they should have decided to do one or the other, be as accurate as possible, or do an inspired outfit that is lolita. BTSSB did a collab with Ruby Gloom, one dress looked like a normal dress (maybe too plain), the other definitely looked more Ruby Gloom inspired but did look too western inspired for some people's tastes.
