…I’m glad someone broke the ice and was honest. I kinda thought my community were the only ones who found brolitas awkward. Thankfully the brolitas in our group rarely attend meetups. I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels this way. I'll take it a step further and say that the only reason straight guys hang around lolitas is to get some lolita ass. It happened too many times in my local community for me to believe otherwise. The gay guys know what they are doing and participate in the fashion for the right reasons. Maybe I'm wrong, but I feel a lot of lolitas are very naive when it comes to straight guys in their lolita group. My local group recently came up with a questionnaire for new people to answer before they are allowed to join. I'm hoping that will help weed out some of these guys that keep joining, attending meets, and creeping on the girls.

I agree that the scary autistic crossdressing fetishists that plague our scene are a problem. However pigeonholing all brolitas as creepers is hardly fair. I do agree that trying to use lolita as a method of picking up girls is disgusting, not every brolita is out to do that. I've met several who are not gay, not in it as a fetish, not in it to get with lolitas, and in it because they genuinely love our fashion. While they are a not an overwhelming majority, hating all brolitas is not the answer. The answer is dealing with the cases as they come up in an appropriate fashion.

There's a brolita in my comm who's really lovely. Socially normal in every ways and just genuinely appreciates feminine beauty and Lolita fashion. He's gay though. He doesn't bring second hand embarrassment to the group when we're out doing something because he actually makes an effort and passes well and fits in good with the group, and he has lovely outfits and is really creative when it comes to themed meetups.

There was once some weird dude who wanted to show up to a meetup, that everybody was very iffy about... he didn't really know anything about the fashion and just appeared from nowhere, luckily he never showed up and nobody heard from him ever again.

I think all the 'serious' examples in this thread (ie, the ones that aren't played for laughs - 'hur hur, dude in a dress' etc) are absolutely beautiful. I don't think it's about 'passing' per se, so much as embracing femininity, I don't think the brolitas here look like genetic young women in all honesty but I do think they look beautiful and feminine. I think a lot more genetic males might be up for embracing femininity if it wasn't for fear of ridicule - that's often where 'passing' comes into it, it's not always about wanting to be a woman so much as "if I can't 'pass' as female then I just might get beaten up". But the Scots and the Romans were already wearing skirts, and high heels were originally invented for horse back riding, which eventually turned into a male status-symbol, that women started wearing once it became "in style" to wear men's clothes. Also, as someone else has said, boys used to wear dresses along with the girls. Not to mention the whole "hair cutting" movement for women in the '20's, and women wearing pants, etc.

I'm a skinny guy with almost no body hair. When i shave, put my makeup on and wear my dress, people often mistake me for a girl.
When I tell them I'm a guy, most people react as though they find it really cool and exciting, but move away from me as soon as possible.

The most extreme situation was this: I was in a club, having a drink, then some dude tried to hit on me. I thanked him, but told him that i'm sorry, but that I'm not gay, though I appreciate his compliments.
He then slapped the drink out of my hand and threatened to punch me right in the face. He said if I would ever call him gay, he'd kill me.

For some reason, people prefer that. It may be the association with white being clean/pure/pretty, and something darker being dirty/evil/ugly. There was a study with children where they had a chart with simple drawings of kids, they were the same aside from their skin color which gradated from white to african black.

Almost all of the children, no matter what their race, said that the white children were preferable, that they wanted to look that way, that they hated their skin, that they thought the black child was ugly and bad.

I don't think that is the case necessarily. I think it has a lot more to do with what has been considered 'higher class' in the past, some of it just sticks around to this day. For example, in a lot of east asian countries, pale skin is desirable and comes from people who laboured in the fields/outdoors got tanned, those who were rich enough to stay indoors stayed pale. In England, during the time of the Elizabethans, red hair was considered to be very beautiful. Actually they liked fair hair as well at that time, as it looked very virginal and pure, and many women did dye their hair or wear wigs.
