Last thread is auto-saging.

Talk about whatever. Since the last thread had some starter questions, here are some more (I tried.):
What are your favorite pieces in your wardrobe?
What makes your favorite lolita pieces your favorites?
Are there any trends/styles that you particularly like or dislike?

I posted this at the end of the last thread, but it didn't bump, so:

>AatP stock pictures up.

I liked the Velveteen one too. I can't believe how much of a fucking mess that skirt is. I liked the Beret and blouse too, but I doubt I'll buy anything from this series, even though the velveteen JSK is tempting.

I don't even know if it would fit, since I'm 32-24-35 or so.
How forgiving are AatP's measurements on a smaller frame?

I think I'd like that dress if the fabrics were different. I normally love velveteen, and tartan can look nice sometimes too, but that cut and style of the dress makes the two look horrid together. In my opinion, anyway.

I feel like the emblem looks really odd just floating on the skirt. It's not large enough to look intentional.

>What are your favorite pieces in your wardrobe?
Pretty much everything, but in particular IW Dollhouse skirt in lavender and AP Marionette Doll in lavender
>What makes your favorite lolita pieces your favorites?
I collect shop/street prints, Dollhouse is my favorite of those and it's got a really nice washed out lavender background. Marionette Doll just has an awesome design,I love colour blocked designs. I wish I could find it in red as well but it hasn't come up for sale that I've seen.
>Are there any trends/styles that you particularly like or dislike?
Like: ott classic and gothic, transparent socks, awesome patterned tights, chiffon
Dislike: most Lolita shoes, bunny bear bags, acrylic jewellery.

I think stock measurements usually run large...

>> No.7057412

It would have been nice if they had done a few emblems in a pattern at the bottom maybe. I'm not in love with it, but I like it better than the other designs.

>>7057321
Yeah, i know they run a little larger, especially if they're the outer side of the garment. I'm just wot sure how large. I always want to order blouses, but I worry that they'll be clownishly big. I need to look for more tops with corset lacing, like MM or VM.

I bet your wardrobe of street prints is really cute! I think only certain people can pull off color blocked prints. I love seeing it done well.
I share your dislike of acrylic jewelry, anon. That shit ain't cute.

Do you (or anyone else) think that they might have extras up for grabs from the reservation?

Also, I remember an anon asking about it in the last thread, but can I get clarification on A+F and CC's hold/10 day policies?
It looks like CC has stopped doing it. Does A+F still allow you to wait 10 days before paying? Should I notify them that it will be a few days or no?

Anyone have a moment where you start thinking "what the fuck am I doing in this fashion"? Grant it, the other night when this thought crossed my mind I was stoned (migraine), so I don't really know the reasons behind it, but I wonder if I'm alone in having this thought cross my mind? I love the fashion, and don't plan on leaving any time soon, but does anyone else ever feel like this?

I think they re-released them for those that missed out on the original release. Which is great because I missed them myself. I think I've felt like that a couple times, but I always have those moments about anything I do. It was much worse when I was cosplaying. I just wasn't cut out to be a cosplayer. With lolita, I rarely feel that way, and once I put an outfit on, all the bad feelings about it disappear. If I got dressed and was still like, "what the fuck and I doing," it would be time to sell.

Also, I hope your head is feeling better today.

>> No.7057803

not really. I haven't wore pants/jeans/shorts in over 11 years. T-shirts are also something that I don't own. So even when I'm not in lolita I'm dressed up pretty well (nice skirt, button down shirt) So for me lolita is really just clothes. It's oh that's a nice dress.

In a way some of my more extreme items that are OTT I sometimes think why did I get this. I can only wear it on the weekends.

all the time, especially if I haven't worn lolita in awhile, I'll see other girls on tumblr and they either look super good because they're japanese, or super shitty, and I'm just like everyone looks super retarded in this fashion.

That's how I feel too.

As a long-time cosplayer there were times where I was like "Why the hell am I doing this?" I have a lot of skill, but I always end up procrastinating and half-assing my costumes. I'd always find pictures of my costumes and feel terrible about myself and what I'd made. I realized I looked so shitty in most of them. In Lolita I almost always look great. Of course, there is always room for improvement, but it's a lot more positive for me.

I really don't like wearing blouses, I usually just wear blazers or boleros or cardigans over most of my dresses. But I still want it to look like I'm wearing a blouse.

yes, there are.
if you search "detachable collar" on etsy/storenvy/taobao, you should come up with some results. i know unicorn shop has at least one, and i'll try to find my bookmark for an etsy that sold them.
most of the ones i've seen have only been appropriate for sweet looks, though, as they're usually fairy kei-ish.

here's one, and if you click on the 5th or 6th icon/category on the side, you'll find a few more.

I don't buy anything I'm not completely in love with, and I always research the price so it varies. If it's hard to find, I often pay anything, unless it's so scalped it mockable, but I haven't come across that yet. So I guess I don't have much of a limit here, unless you count the fact that I'm extra picky about what I like and then buy.

Late reply, I actually posted the skirt as a second choice purchase since I can't justify the velveteen jsk. I'm rethinking it now though, you're right, it does look kind of a mess. Whelp, guess I'm sitting this release out then.

As for those measurements, honestly I don't recommend it -- I lost only an inch from my bust and two inches from my waist and ended up selling some of my custom taobao things as they don't fit me anymore, of the jsks that are left, most of them are visibly too big and wrinkle a lot, I just like them too much to part with them. Your measurements are even further off than just an inch or two, I think you'll end up having to take this to a tailor to make it look good. Depending on how much you like the jsk, may or may not be worth the extra cost, you won't be able to make back the money if you decide later you didn't like it all that much after all.

Yes. I remember only a few months ago when I thought spending $60 on a dress off auction was way too much. I also live in a small city where I will literally never wear anything that isn't casual and this does not work because I am dangerously in love with OTT classic. When I actually think about actually spending $200 on an actual dress I kind of have a mini ohgodwhatamIdoing heartattack. I'm not leaving soon either, though. My plan is to stop, save up my money, plan a trip to Japan and spend it there because it will be worth it. And then I will move where I want to because my degree will be finished and I can wear all of the frills and people will still stare but mostly be used to it and nobody will know me anyway so no fucks will be given. /lifestory

Two size 1 skirts I bought recently are more like a 70 cm waist irl. The JSK's I own fit just right though, so I'd say the official measurements are more accurate for the dresses. What I'd recommend is to try on the sports bra/bind, then measure yourself again. If you can get below the measurements, preferably an inch, you're good, go for it.

If you're still above, forget it, it's unlikely to fit or look good.

If you're very close, you'll have to make a judgement call. I think an underbust of 91cm is fine, but the sports bra/binder may redistribute your mass, so try it on first and check the measuremnts again to make sure you're under the dress measurements.

Good luck, anon.

This is me, except my waist is around 78cm and my bust is around 82cm. I look slim and everything, but unshirred brand can be very tight around my waist. I don't have any unshirred JSKs, though, so I don't know if they'd be loose around my bust.

Speaking of which, I have a Fancy Egg skirt by Meta. I bought it NWT (I assume) from ODIP, and I'm a little confused, 'cause while it has shirring at the back of the waistband, it's completely pointless, because the elastic doesn't actually stretch more than about half an inch. Is it meant to be like that, or has it been stretched out and the skirt is just tiny?

I get comments even when I'm wearing a nice-ish normal outfit with a casual dress from H&M, however reactions to my clothes are generally positive. Even in full-on lolita, most people are just curious or say it's cute. There will be some teenage assholes who snicker or roll their eyes (the irony being that they usually look like complete shit themselves, because teenagers), but most people are pretty decent if you look put-together and well-groomed.
Basically you'll attract attention, but it won't necessarily be negative. Just be prepared to answer questions about what you're wearing and why.

I own an unshirred Victorian Maiden piece that actually fits comfortably, but only because the shape of the dress allowed for it. I almost died of happiness when I put it on. But yeah, most skirts tend to be really uncomfortable on me. I have to move clasps and stuff most of the time and not use waist ties. I've also found that most Meta skirts don't really stretch out too much. Sorry about that!

Oooh, I love VM, but I just assumed it wouldn't fit. I'll have to track down some of their stuff. I don't mind, it still fits, it's just quite tight. Not uncomfortably so, but just enough that I really notice when I take it off. A support group for rectangular lolis sounds like a cool idea, haha.

>>7059108
Just about, and only skirts (like I said, I don't have any unshirred dresses). Maybe it varies between brand. The waist measurement of Fancy Egg is listed as 63cm though, so I'm now even more confused as to why I can get it on, haha. Although 78 cm is my resting measurement, and I do have a slight beer gut (gross, I know); if I suck my stomach in I can probably take off 10cm or so fairly easily.

>>7059120
I'd also like to ask about trades; how do you make sure they're legit? Do you just have to check feedback? The idea of a trade fills me with terror; what happens if one item gets lost in the post or they send you an empty box? Are you just fucked? It all seems so unsafe to me, especially trades done over 4chan where people use throwaways all the time.

>>7059148
I think it's 63 plus the shirring, which would explain why you can get it on but it doesn't really fit?
W/r/t sucking in: just beware that sucking in often increases other measurements such as bust/ribcage. If you want to work on being able to tighten up your stomach without really sucking in, try doing stomach vacuum exercises.
It sounds ridiculous and /fit/, but... I've been doing them since I was really young (maybe 5 or 6) when I realized I could suck in like crazy and scare my cousins, and I've always had a really tight/toned stomach, even when I'm going through a chubby and inactive period.
You'll also be able to tighten your stomach muscles and reduce your measurements without really "sucking in."

You can't ensure it. Even if you both used tracking/proof of shipping, one of you has to take the plunge and send it off without confirmation that the other party has done the same. Even with proof of shipping, how do you know they've sent your item? They could send some mouldy old shoes. I think the safest way to go about trades is have the person with less supportive feedback ship first and provide proof of shipping before the other person does.

Of course, even people with hundreds of positive feedback have done an 180 and scammed before. There's always that need for trust in a complete stranger, and is why i'd never trade.

What do you guys consider to be a dream dress? Do you use it loosely and call every dress you love a dream dress, or is it something you've been pining for for months (or even years)?

I got into lolita fairly recently (a little over a year ago) so all my dresses were older releases. My list consisted of 5 dresses... and I just bought the last one. To me, a dream dress is the one dress that makes your heart skip a beat when you look at it. You'd pay any amount if you could, and stay up for weeks searching auction sites just to find it. It's something really special. If you have a whole list of 'dream dresses' then they're not dream dresses at all. That's just a wishlist.

I have two dream dresses. My first one was Melty Chocolate, because that was the print that really made me sit up and take notice of lolita. I fell in love with it from the first time I saw it. My second dream dress, and one that I have recently managed to buy thanks to an anon on here, is Lief's Gardenberries. I didn't think I would ever be able to find it, since it's one of those difficult prints to get. But I'm telling you, Gardenberries has haunted my sleep so many nights you wouldn't believe.

I use it somewhat loosely as I've had "dream dresses" leave my closet sooner than dresses I've bought on a whim.

I also kind of trick myself into thinking certain dresses are "dream" ones because I've loved them for years from afar. An example of this is Baby's Gingham Rose OP. I had adored it since its initial release I and even now it gets me a little nostalgic. I dont wear wigs but what my friend does is puts it in a pony tail, put first wig cap on. Pull ponytail over head again, put 2nd cap on...etc until hair is in. Should really only take 2-3 caps here. I think almost all my main pieces in my wardrobe outside one plain-colored baby jsk and my only remaining bodyline jsk are dresses that make my heart flutter just seeing them in my closet, and especially on me. A few were hard to obtain or I've been wanting for awhile, or went through hell and back trying to get them during the release (DDC arrgh).

I have to wear strapless bras with mine. But I have a bad problem with dream sky in that it's already made for a tiny bust, I have DD's so with the strapless bra, my tits start drooping down as I walk and the bodice starts riding up.

I have wider shoulders, not wide-wide but broad enough to be a problem.

I just sent a mail order to Baby for a blouse. Do you reserve items the same way you order them? How long do they usually take to reply? I want it really bad and I'm scared it will fill up before they reply if I didn't do it correctly. Any assistance would be appreciated, thank you.

Have you considered a custom corset? They're great support, you can order a size down if you'd like to cinch your waist, and they're strapless but won't make your boobs droop.

I'm going to be ordering a pair of shoes from antaina, and I wasn't confident about ordering the correct size. When measured directly my feet are ~23cm but I am guessing my wide feet would mean I wouldn't actually fit in a 23.
The only pair I've ever gotten was from bodyline in 25 cm and it surprisingly fit fine when I wore socks. Checking a converter table my size 39/ 8.5 feet would also equal 25 cm. Would this mean I should order in 25 cm?

Socks: I'd say like $30, and that'd be only if they're for a specific brand print (obviously I'd be getting 'em secondhand). The thought of dishing out more than that on OTKs is crazy to me. And socks/tights are so cheap on taobao anyways you can get a lot for a little.

Head bows: $45, once again, if it's brand (though probably secondhand), there's lots of pretty accessories out there that can be bought for less.

Dresses: $300. Unless I'm going after some really sought after print or brand spanking new hot of the presses print brand, there's not reason I'd need to spend more than that on a dress I want.

Question about petticoats - I have a low waist jsk from AP, and if I set my petticoat at my natural waist, it bunches the skirt weird. At Anime Revo my friend bought Etoile Twins JSK in Sax for $360 with head bow. Was that a rip off? I wasnt with her at time of purchase but apparently they didnt even both to go to the back to get her a new one, they took it right off the rack when a bunch of people had already been touching. Brands have a very limited stock. They didn't get one from the back because that was likely the only dress they had. There are maybe 50 of that dress in existence- most of which never left Japan- and you are pissed because your friend bought the floor model?
No, the price wasn't a rip off. That is the cost of that dress and bow new from the shop.

Made me disappointed they call themself "brand" when they dont treat is as so.
How so? What were they supposed to do? Tell me how when I go to the Louis Vuitton or Christian Louboutin store they won't sell me the product that is sitting on the shelf... because that is EXACTLY what they are selling.

>> No.7064788

Responded to your other post. Did they actually have "a back"? They typically only have limited stock of certian things. It may have been the only one. Most of the time, when I see brand shops, there are really small booths with everything out, on racks or a table. Everyone is touching them. H.Naoto at Otakon was no different. There was no back and no under the counter space for extras. I think if you actually visit the shops in Japan, they have the items in the back, and perhaps if there is extra stock at AP San Fransisco. But highly unlikely at a con.

Whenever I go to Burberry or Holt Renfrew, they ALWAYS pull one from the back. There were some nasty people I saw touching that dress which is the main reason I was upset, seriously people walking around eating and touching it bare hands, and AP wouldnt say anything.

There was a really big back part that had max cap racks. They also had a change room and were letting other people try on the floor models, yet another reason I didnt approve of a $360 dress.

I personally just dont think its right to sell a dress for that much when a) lots of people touching it with dirty hands and b) youre allowing all sort of people to try it on. They didnt even inspect the dress before completing the transaction.

So long as you've stuck to your own deadlines, how could the mods possibly accept revenge feedback?

Pretty much this. I mope around all day as well and I rarely have the motivation to do anything. When I do finally do something I find it's really exhausting as well.

so I posted in the bst thread about whether it's common courtesy or not as a seller to wash clothes before you send them out. i'm too lazy to find my post number but long story short, while I don't believe it was done on purpose/maliciously or anything (I don't think the seller could tell) the dress I bought came and it REEKS. I don't really know how to describe it other than it smells like...stale deoderant that has been fermenting in a gabage bin with animal smell. it's really bad and it's all over the dress. if I touch it, the smell transfers onto my hands and anything else it touches (table that it was laid out on, my clothes, etc.). as soon as I took it out of the bag I just put it right back in to contain the smell. the instructions are dry clean only/no washing. due to the smell i'm kind of uhh embarassed to take it into a dry cleaner though? that might sound dumb but, it's true. I don't wanna try to dry clean it on my own (it's non-print but I feel like something disastorous would happen) but is there any way I can get as much of the smell out of as possible on my own? it's just so horribly strong right now.

Water/vinegar mix in a spray bottle, or baking soda and water, or Febreeze. I heard putting it in the freezer will take out smells, too.

Egad. I always clean dresses before even laying them out for sales photos, precisely for the reason you don't want to take it to the drycleaners, I'd die of embarrassment if some girl I sold it to now thinks I'm some stinky-chan! I hope you mentioned this in the feedback you left for the seller, I'd hate to get that kind of nasty surprise in the mail.

Additional option, some people say to put cat litter or activated charcoal into the bag with the dress and the charcoal/cat litter will absorb the smell.

>AatP's Leclair chiffon.

Handwash that baby with cool water + woolite in your bathtub. If there are certain areas that are smellier than others (like the underarms), apply a baking soda scrub (baking soda + enough water to make a paste) first. Dampen the spot, rub in baking soda paste gently, let dry, then launder as usual.

I've never bought smelly Lolita, but I buy a shit ton of vintage dresses. I use this method a LOT.

So I sent a dress out and I think it's lost in the mail, what do I do? Do I refund the girl the money she spent on the dress and take a hit? It was expensive shipping, and I basically feel like I've already lost half of it on getting it out to her.

tl;dr dress is lost, do I pay her the cost of the dress?

>> No.7067247

>>7067244
Unless she asked for shipping, it's ut of your hands and not your fault. If you want to be a 110% seller, you could refund her, but you're under no obligation to do so if she didn't request tracking or insurance.

>> No.7067257

>>7067244
Is it insured? If so, you need your receipt and you can make a claim for the lost parcel. This will allow you to refund the girl without taking a huge loss.

If it's not insured, then if she asked for the cheaper shipping, you're not obligated to refund her since it's her fault for not getting insured shipping.

Tracking and insurance are to protect _you_ as the seller. If you didn't get T&I, she can file a Paypal claim and get all the money back from you

>> No.7067396

>>7067244
going by Paypal's ToS, yes, you refund the buyer. Paypal considers it the seller's responsibility to make sure that the product reaches the buyer safely.

if this was on egl sales, then at least for feedback purposes, you aren't required to refund the buyer at all if you shipped using whatever method you guys had agreed on.

>> No.7068370

Speaking of comm sales, why do some people have to put their whole life story in their sale post? Like
>I love this dress soooo much and I don't want to sell it, but it's a little short and also I really need the money because I have the bubonic plague, and I have to feed my pet crocodile, and a tank ran over my car and I got bills to pay, etc, etc, etc

Just post the price, no one cares why you're "letting it go"

>> No.7068458

>>7068370

I assume it's to keep out the people who want to trade dresses or haggle on prices, by emphasizing how they much they need the money.

I've written similar notes on some of my sales, usually I'm open to trades and haggling, but on certain items I write that if no one wants to pay the price then I'll keep the dress, even if it doesn't fit.

Other times I also write down the reason for selling as part of the dress history, eg- I lost weight and sold a bunch of taobao things, some of which were never worn because the dresses took so long to get made I lost the inches and the dress swims on me.

If you got tracking & insurance and shipped to a verified address, paypal should side with you.

On a related note, I don't understand why people don't get insurance? It's literally like $2 more (at least for USPS to international, dunno what it's like elsewhere). Even if the buyer doesnt want to pay for it, I would just go ahead and do it, especially if I am selling a $200/$300 dress

>> No.7068899

This. USPS just "lost" some shit I ordered online, after claiming they were allowed to hold it because it was "suspicous". Fucking pissed at them right now.

Before that they marked all of my packages as delivered even though they were sitting around in their office for 5 days past their deadline. Again, "suspicious". Thought they were either stolen off of my porch or the mailman gave someone the keys to the wrong package box. At least those got here eventually.

It depends on how the postal service in the recipient's area is. Mine's got a shit track record with uninsured parcels. Just in case though, you need to get the extra shit to make sure they do their fucking job right.

I go to an art school, and I'm absolutely terrified to wear lolita to class. I've seen weirder stuff, but it's so drastically different from what I normally wear, I feel like people will be freaked out.

It's art school, nobody gives a fuck. Nobody will be surprised if you show up in anything out of the ordinary.

Depends on your major. If you're doing something mess, like anything that involves paints or dyes or industrial machines, definitely avoid wearing it to class. But no one will be freaked out. I wear lolita to an art school regularly, and it feels basically normal; I don't get even double-takes or any thing, so it's very nice. Plus, as an art school there might be more lolitas, any way, so wearing it is a good way of meeting people.
