San Japan: Sinister Six in 12 days! Anyone going? What are you going as?

Also I'm attempting to cosplay as Villager from Animal Crossing but I don't think I can just get anything in a store like that, even with that simplicity. Being new to cosplaying, what do I do?

Anyone working on last minute cosplays? I thought I could finish at least two of the three I had planned but it looks like I'm actually going to have to settle for one.
On that note actually, anyone plan on having to sew right up until the con/work on it till ridiculous hours the night before?

I"m totally going, I"m the guy who was wearing the roller blades last year.

This year I have heelies so hopefully i can avoid being arrested. Anyone have any ideas on a costume i could make in a week and a half incorporating them? I would rate this one a 5.
The panels were very blah or stagnant, the rave was 'ok', not great. The masquerade used bad music and they really need to figure how to decorate if they're even going to bother.
There wasn't any good cosplay that I saw in the halls and I went to the cosplay show too and it was very blah. Half-time show sucked hard core.
Dealers hall was the same old crap as always. The only good thing I can say is that I bumped into Scott McNeil in the hall and he was awesome. Artist Alley was pretty good and most of the merchandise was interesting this year but those two last parts are really best there was for the con.

It just seemed very watered down and boring in general.

I didnt make the checkin, but thought it was alot more fair with prejudging than the last few years were.

I thought the contest show went bad. The screen was hard to see. In the back It was so fracking cold in that room. I had to walk in and out so many times I missed alot of it.

Rave needed better music. I liked it but the music was weak. Saturdays was better than fridays. Not like it was much better.

not back home yet, but still had a good time. This is only my second year so i can't really say if it was good or bad as i don't have a whole lot of depth with these things, but i do agree that there was some planning issues. There were several notable instances where the people that were supposed to be running the panels just didn't show up, and other times where they put panels that had 200 people lined up to enter in some of the smallest rooms in the area.

Peaked into the Rave, it looked super fucking akward. Also thanks to that guy who had the music box i was hearing song of storms in my head all weekend.

I was the guy with the real shit laughing man costume, that was assembled with my inkjet printer 3am that morning, so don't judge me. I had another costume but the 3D printer i was going to use to finalize some of the parts broke. It was pretty successful though, so maybe next year i'll figure out how to make it spin and actually wear the right jacket.

The problem is that the word feminist has become synonymous with femi-nazi. Real feminist want equality that is of benefit for both men and women in society so that things can become more equal for both; the current misconstrued view of feminists held by most idiots is that it's a cause for subjugating men, fight the power, etc.

So. Which version was the one hosting the panel pushing?

My problem with feminism is that while it recognizes the problems of women, LGBT, whatever (I don't know the terms), it ignores the fact that straight males have large problems too. I see a difference between a feminist and a feminazi.

In all honesty, her points were well laid out. She addressed that there's a lot of fanservice (panty shots, bikini armor, etc) and that it's "problematic". The presentation didn't seem like "man hating" rhetoric, but more along the lines of "I like this type of anime and all anime should be like this". It's hard to describe without putting too much of my bias in.

She does like shows that aren't "feminist" like DBZ (don't ask why you'd want a feminist DBZ) though.

Man I did not want to get in a discussion about this. I'm an Egalitarian. I believe that all races, genders, sexual orientations, etc should be treated equally and fairly, as much as possible, in the eyes of the law and society.

You want problems though? Fine. I'll give some.

1) Just as women have "unrealistic" depictions of themselves in media, so do males. We have the media telling us certain things are bad, while others are good. The media tells us that men have to last a long time in bed. This is not always the case. We're told that bigger is better. Once again, not always the case. We have these "perfect" males. Males who do the impossible for their women. Twilight, Maid-sama, and Special A are examples I used for my girlfriend Saturday. In romantic comedies, who have a husband and wife, and the wife makes a mistake (read: cheats on her husband) and the husband is seen as the bad guy. Crazy Stupid Love and Wanderlust are my examples. In primetime comedies, men are seen as horny idiots. On the other side, women are seen as prude bitches, but you asked for male issues and that's one of them. Look at CBS primetime comedies (past and present) for examples.

here's a few things that because of traditional gender roles men cannot do without being considered unmasculine

"staying at home with the kids while their mother works"

2) Men are expected to go to work, almost no exceptions. If they don't, they're given the term Mr. Mom, which implies that only mothers take care of the children, and that by staying at home, he's relinquished his fatherhood. Honestly, I fall into that category. I'm good at cooking, cleaning, washing clothes, and housework in general. However society will look at me like a failure as a man.

3) The FBI's definition of rape (last time I checked) pretty much said that only women can be the victims. Men are raped and they face the same psychological problems as women, yet, nobody is talking about it. There are also men who are physically abused in their relationships, yet, there are no battered men's shelters, and I don't know if they're allowed in a women's shelter.

4) Family Law. That is largely screwed up. Men having to pay child support for children that they find out aren't theirs, being less likely to retain custody. Please look them up.

5) Male teachers. I didn't know this before, but apparently people trust male teachers less than female in elementary. What's with that?

Rape is a type of sexual assault usually involving sexual intercourse, which is initiated by one or more persons against another person without that person's consent. The act may be carried out by physical force, coercion, abuse of authority or against a person who is incapable of valid consent, such as one who is unconscious, incapacitated, or below the legal age of consent.[1][2][3][4]

1.) This for the most part is correct but I will point out the women in media are far more objectified than men. If men want that then fine, it needs to be in equal amounts when the show/comic/movie claims to be fair for both. Want to have lots of skimpy outfits on the ladies with gratuitous boob shots? Then there better be an equal amount of tight little pants on the guys with gratuitous crotch shots.
2.) This one is bordering on silly because it amounts to name calling and women suffer the same as men there. Especially with the whole women are expected to put out but then you're a whore/slut if you do. The name calling issue is big for both sides.
3.)This is true and there really does need to be support groups for those that suffer this, however male rape is extremely uncommon where as current reports from the FBI and police documents cite that one in three women will be raped or sexually assaulted; for men, it's close to 1%. Not sure how that can be remedied at present when its such a small group.
4.)Actual feminism wants to take away the stereotype that says that women are always the better parents; that is a stale leftover from the past. It wants to actually help men who are the better parent received custody of the children.
5.)I don't know what to tell you on this one as your statement was fairly vague.

Long story short, actual feminism truly does want to level the playing field. Men can be the one to stay at home with the kids so that the woman pursue her career, women should not always be portrayed as the brilliant chefs while the husband is a bumbling oaf in the kitchen, and so on. But the reason it's called feminism is because it was originally started to help and protect women in a largely male dominated world (that was and still is very dangerous for women). Now that some equalities are finally being achieved however, it's branching out to help the men too in the ways I have mentioned. I think the presenter was ill informed.

>> No.7049131 [DELETED]

Oh for fuck's sake I was trying to stay away from this conversation but

Most of the problems affecting straight men are, in fact, byproducts of the patriarchy. Half of the things you listed we're things that men can't do because it would make them "more like women", and women are considered lesser. People assume men can't be raped because men are "stronger" than women.

Any feminist worth their salt knows that men can be and are raped. Any feminist worth their salt acknowledges that the patriarchy negatively affects men. If you're not around logical (but impassioned) feminist discourse, you're in the wrong circles. And you're not in any circles at all if your only exposure to "feminism" is some fifteen year old screaming on the Internet or third hand stories from fellow dudebros about "those crazy feminazis."

2) >Men are seen as failures for homemaking as that is a woman's role, therefore bad/demeaning because women are lesser
3) >Men can't be rape victims and are denied access to shelters because women are victims because they are weak and need to be protected from men who are inherently violent and incapable of turning down sex (since women are 'gatekeepers', or women are 'selling sex' and men are 'buying sex')

4) >Men have to pay child support because women are good at babies and nothing else

5) >Men can't be trusted around children because they aren't natural childcare givers and are also sex-crazed

All of these things are real problems that are related to the negative treatment of women. Regardless, I agree feminism isn't doing as much as it can to improve the situation for men (and, let's be honest, when a group attempts to improve conditions for another group it's usually a mess), which is why we need a well-organised feminist men's movement (instead of internet/Reddit Men's Rights which is mostly based around blaming feminism for all problems men have instead of acknowledging it as an ally). Getting rid of the disgusting, heartbreaking sexism men experience requires tackling the entrenched, fundamental sexism women experience from which most of men's issues can be extrapolated.

Semi-related - this is why I hate the word 'patriarchy' - it's technically true but a massive generalisation. It's not like ALL MEN, regardless of race, sexual orientation, transgender or cis, gender presentation, cultural background etc are immediately prioritised over ALL WOMEN. I prefer the term 'kyriarchy' because it recognises that oppression is a complicated bastard that screws over everyone alive, although to varying degrees depending on privilegez.

Same thing happened to me. I had to work in all the details and things I worked my ass off on because she just asked me what I didn't like about my costume (along with "What was your favorite aspect," but mostly what I thought negatively of my costume).

Not completely correct. Made or Modified. and MADE a broad concept, for instance if you BUY a kit of metal pieces instead of using a English wheel or plannishing hammer to make them from flat steel.. but did sew them on the material of the costume you did make it... but not as much as if you had formed from thin gauge metal.

Also they could not participate with less than 50% (I think) so 50% could be not hand made.

>> No.7050527

>>7050460

Same. The group may have been looking for a particular something or other when they were judging, but I think it'd be much more effective to say "How did you make this item?" rather than "What did you think you did poorly?" Heck, even asking me "What are the top three things you want me to know about your craftsmanship" is better than asking me what I fucked up on.

That's just me and how I'm used to judging, whether it be myself or others. Not arguing with the choices the judges made or whatever. Just saying I thought pre-judging could have ran better.

If you're going to use anonymity as a saving grace and a threat, you should at least compose your posts in a manner that would actually strike fear into the hearts of its readers.

Do it. Call them out, I'm curious. Can't come here and make idle threats like that.

>> No.7051498

Yes anon, call them out.

>> No.7051513

Funny how often someone will wander in and make some threats and when they get called on it it's suddenly so quiet.

Isn't that usually the case, though?

Was there seriously only one person here who took pictures?

No, sometimes the person is actually stupid enough to say something back.

Oh boy, I forgot about that. That was a good time.

I overheard a staff member saying something was, but they caught the guy easily.

I was standing at a figure-booth and was too scared to touch anything.

I hope they do see it. What are they going to do? Ban me from working for them and not getting anything for my troubles but attitude? I haven't even listed all the shitty shit they did this year.

And as for giving my name out, one guy did that and my address last year, on top of multiple harassing text messages and threats. It's cool, because I did report it to the police, and even if they don't take action, I have records so if I have to shoot the psycho in self defense, I'm all good. I have nothing to hide, and no reason to worry.

Anyways, PROTIP: be careful if you sleep on a floor in hotels. I got bit inside my ear by a spider. Shit sucks, but not anyone's fault but my own for sleeping on the damned floor.

So anon above is bitching about complaints against staff? That's it? And here I thought it was something good.

looks like they ninja changed it, the winners must have contacted them. it's one mistake on the entire list and to be fair, Maru and Moro are seen more often with Yuuko anyway.

Call people out and talk about the staff and their fuck ups. It's good to know what goes on in the backgrounds and how fucked up shit is.

Also the masquerade ball took a nose dive into shit. What the hell happened?

The people who ran it last year were not the ones running it this year. They were running it up until like a couple months before the con so it seems like the case that someone had to scramble to take it over at the last second so that's probably why it sucked. IDK, I didn't go.

I'd need a novel to keep up with it all. Just being cheepskates basically. Pretty fucked up telling the ME team
>cant have dealer's vouchers, you are staff, not volunteers.

20 minutes later...same staffer

>can't get a plate from the buffet, you are volunteers not staff

I don't want to get too personal either because that will just give some of the higher ups more reason to mean mug me and cause me grief. There are some good peoples on staff though, shout out to morale support and con-suite for doing all they could.

>>7051351
This is the only reason I kept working for them. I've met many people I love dearly. I love talking to interesting people and making new friends, and hope people would come around if I worked hard and did a great job. I'm just, disappointed I was right though.
