Back on topic, please don't do that eye enlarging effect with the white eyeliner unless you know what you're doing. Also, it doesn't really look good in people that already have thick bottom eyelashes. Just go for a more natural look

That's the thing, this fandom only has three types of cosplayers. Absolutely horrible 15 year olds who can't sew, 15 year olds who bought costumes online, and 20-somethings that have great costumes but look way too old.

Seconding both the suggestions above of feathered lashes, and some along the bottom. You don't want the lashes to be so thick that they look smoky or chunky, maybe try some from dolly wink that have a good mix of outer spikes and feathered lashes. Also, try to move the outer corner formed by your lashes and eyeliner higher/more upturned, so that your eyes will look 'taller' and cuter (the way you do it at the moment makes them look a little slit-like). And maybe try to minimise the appearance of your double eyelid a little, like put some subtle brown eyeshadow over it.
Also, get some different contacts? The dolly eye ones are pretty creepy. Eos new adult, dolly+ and beaucon or i.fairy brand lenses might give you the light brown without the creepy small pupil.

I used to use clear retainers, trimmed down flush to the surface of my skin, without the outside o-ring. If you've got eyebrow piercings retainers tend to be kind of obvious so you're kind of fucked in that respect unless anyone else has better ideas?

On another note, I'm planning to do Chihiro next month and need some opinions on my eyemakeup. Too much, not enough, need tweaking?
(Also if anyone has tips on concealing stubble shadow that would be great, I've looked up some pointers but any extra help would be awesome too.)

how quickly do you heal? If you can go three/four hours then you can take a piercing break and just put your jewellery on when you're in the dealers hall and take it out when you're not.

If it's your lip another thing i've done was to put a bcr in it with no ball and just whip it out for photos.

Probably not because with a bell shape it needs to curve and circle skirts just go out rather than having a curve to them.
What you need is to create a pleated skirt that can be worn with bell skirt tutu underneath for the volume. Maybe stitching the pleats down with a little hidden stitching at the bottom might help them stay in place.
it should look like the sketch in the image rather than looking sorta triangular like circle skirts tend to.

Not to get too meta with this discussion, but I think that accuracy can be objectively assessed, and craftsmanship to some extent (but not entirely)- these contribute to how 'good' a costume is. Stylistic choices that come with a 2D to 3D conversion like fabric choices and prop proportioning are a bit of a grey area, and then liking faces and bodytypes is definitely subjective. >>7042317 And all of these contribute to how much you like a cosplay, which is entirely up to you.

Sorry to derail the discussion from Peko cosplayers, Chihiro makeup anon again.

Left photo was the first trial, right photo second trial. Tried to mess around with my eyemakeup again-- no eyeliner on bottom lid (eyeshadow only), swapped from bb cream to a better coverage foundation since my concealer doesn't actually blend well with the bb cream/matches the foundation better.
I'm a bit worried about my stubble shadow, but I'm not sure if it's actually me being paranoid or if it's really not that bad.

Ah, yeah, it's not put on right, I only noticed the gap when I took the photo. I didn't put any light eyeshadow anywhere but the inner corners of my eyes actually-- should I put a neutral-colored eyeshadow over my eyelids to compensate for that?

your eyelash placement looks a lot better! but maybe redefine the eyeliner again to kind of blend in the lashes. they kind of stand out with how bold they are and how dull the liner is. a liquid liner usually does the job the best, in my opinion.

Those eyelashes look much better than the first, and while I'm partial to the ones on the left side of the photo, I feel like you could choose either pair to success, depending on the look you're going for.

Also, a tip, whether or not you do or already know this, but it's way easier to put eyeliner on before you place your false eyelashes, and then if you need to touch it up in the inner corners, say to conceal the edge of the lashes, it's much easier to do.

I actually do have powder on, but I live near the equator so my face gets shiny pretty quickly if I'm not sitting around in an airconditioned room. My nose gets the worst of this, unfortunately, so I always have to repowder my face every couple of hours at a con.

Hey guys, could I get some opinions on my Junko wig? I've styled it twice and each time differently, which style works better? People tend to dislike straight ones but also curly ones.

If you really want to suffer, you can purchase hair rollers and take little amounts of hair into the rollers, hair spray it, and the hairdry it for a minute at a time. With that much hair, it's guaranteed to take forever but I found that that method stayed. Some wigs work differently than others because of the wig fibres.

Usually I found that the worse quality that the wig was, the easier it was to curl.

It is, I mean, it's apparently super resistant to almost everything I try to do it, haha. It only burned the hair when it was already hairsprayed and had high heat applied to it for a fairly long consistent time (it didn't hurt it when I did the same thing without the hairspray, idk), so I think I just managed to push it to its limit. I'll give the lower heat + longer time combo a try next time, and if I manage to get good results, I'll report my findings.

The choppy ends are the only part that looked really bad to me personally, so if you thin those out I think that will take care of the worst of it. I totally feel you on the Otakon Wig Torture though, both of the wigs I wore that weekend deflated horribly and looked really sad after the first hour in the heat. It is not a gentle con.

You made a really nice Twogami.

I'd recommend buying a moisturizer, foundation and a matte powder for your face and then some subtle brown eyeliner and clear mascara. Chapstick is also never a bad idea. And possibly some eyebrow liner to make your eyebrows stand out more. Concealer is a good idea too for any blemishes and if you are prone to bags under your eyes.

For Gundam, definitely some black eyeliner and possibly black or dark gray eyeshadow. You'll also need makeup to do the scar and cover your eyebrows. I also reccomend a foundation one or two shades lighter than your natural skin tone.

And it's never a bad idea to countour/highlight if you want to get makeup for that, although that's something typically used in crossplay. Hope this helps.

cgl loves to nitpick good cosplay. it's nothing new. people in these threads ate often much harsher on fantastic cosplayers than they are the blatantly shitty ones. it's often due to vendetta, jealousy, or ridiculously high standards- or all three. but a lot of the time the harshness comes from wanting a great cosplay to fix up the (often small) things that would make it perfect. it's very frustrating to see an otherwise great cosplay ruined by sloppy detailing or an improperly styled wig.

Hey, I'm really belated on this, but I saw the comments on my Peko makeup and wanted to ask for some feedback since this thread seems to have a lot of makeup discussion going on right now. I was experimenting with my makeup last weekend: on one of the days I tried red eyeshadow and on the other one I didn't. Evidently I agree that it was overdone when I did do it, although I thought it looked nice irl. It definitely photographed way dark.

Here's a picture of my Peko makeup with and without the red shadow. I still have a lot to learn about makeup and I consider myself somewhat of a beginner, so feedback would be appreciated as I will be wearing her again for a shoot next weekend.

The general construction is the same from thsi tutorial, at least in terms of the collar; I put in a side-zipper and modified how the cuffs worked so that they had a cleaner appearance. However, instead of drafting my own pattern I used a burda pattern for a long-sleeved T-shirt and sized it up to account for the fact that my fabric had less stretch than jersey knit. It turned out pretty well in the end in my opinion although it was a bit of a rush job and could be improved. Your skirt is a basic long pleated skirt, just topstitch two pieces of ribbon along the entire lower hem before pleating. Pin it before stitching. Sage for selfpost.

Your little fold at the waist thing looks really poofy? In an odd wrinkly way. Are you using a koshi himo or a date-jime? If not, they might help. You could probably just make some out of scrap material too.
The collar on what's susposed to be your juban looks odd, but I don't know if it's just the picture or what. I don't want to be condescending if you already know all this stuff, but this site (http://kidorakujapan.com/wear/women_kimono_kimono.html)) might help you with both of those things?
Your obiage looks a little awkward. Where do you have it tucked in? It should be right near the overlap of your kimono. Also remember that Hiyoko's obiage isn't tied and then tucked in to the obi, but rather one side (A) is tucked in, then the other (B) is pulled over where A is tucked in, then B is tucked in. I can show an image if that doesn't make sense.
The bow on your obijime looks doesn't look quite big enough, and it's fraying a lot. I know Hiyoko's is a little frayed at the ends, but you might want to knot it (if you haven't already, I can't tell) to prevent further fraying.
The you're pulling the sleeves makes everything pull in a really bad way. I can't tell if you sewed the sleeves all along the armscye or not, but if you did...don't.

I can promise that I didn't sew the whole sleeves!!! I did the first time and then ended up seam ripping a lot of it.

I ended up sewing white fabric onto my kimono as a juban, because when it was a separate vest piece, because I bind when I'm in this cosplay but during the day, my boobs shift in the binding and make everything really wonky, thus not lining up properly.... Even now, with it sewn in, it doesn't stay very well and I think that's what's showing in the picture?

Thanks for the pointers on the obiage, I'll definitely look into getting better fabric for that stuff. I used some kind of plain cotton and having it as a separate piece just resulted in the obiage hiding in / behind my obi.

If you're binding because you want smaller breasts since Saionji is so young, you might want to look into something else instead. I know some cosplayers who use a sports bra with a slightly smaller cup size as an alternative form of binding. You might want to look into that? You'll have to find a store that sells the sports bras in the same measurement as regular bras. I think places like WalMart and stuff might do that but I'm not sure. That way your breasts won't move around so much and mess up your kimono.
