I think its overall going to be good for the con, the con is getting way to big for the BCC.

Personally its a longer drive and i'll really miss the Baltimore inner harbor, its beautiful imo.

I'm actually glad Otakon is moving to DC in a few years. The facilities are becoming too small in Baltimore to hold Otakon now as evident from what I saw in 2012 and 2013. I've heard that 40,000 people is the threshold for the BCC before it becomes a fire/safety hazard. Otakon is approaching 40,000 and I don't think Otakon wants to cap attendance.

BCC should consider holding up and coming Cons such as MAGFest and Katsucon. Especially Katsucon as it was held in Baltimore one year. MAGFest has a partnership with Otakon with furnishing the game room and holding Bitgen the same time Otakon is happening.

Also, for Mags and Katsu, I go for the Aloft. It's a maybe two-block walk but it's reasonable and has nice amenities. It is kind of absurd. In 2017 they'll have Magsfest, Katsucon, Awesomecon, Otakon, and AUSA, three within the city limits, plus a couple of minor geek-related shows. The only reason to book a room in B-more anymore will be if I'm feeling indulgent for Baltimore Comic-Con.

Still, you'd be hard-pressed to find a large enough place to allow for growth, with accommodations around it, close enough to your previous location that you won't lose some of your frugal base. I heard that they checked out a huge number of places.

Well, a coworker had asked me about things she could do with her eldest daughter (the girl is around 13). Her daughter loves anime, so I suggested Otakon, even though I wouldn't be going myself. Haven't been, actually, even though I'm fifteen minutes away.

The girl cosplayed for the first time, got a lot of pictures taken. I don't know yet how the cosplay turned out, they put it together in under a week, but it was super simple. She met the voice actor for her favorite character and was so happy, she cried.

Feels good.

There are shootings and stabbings in my city all the time and there are only ~45K people here. Most of the crime is between parties that know each other in some manner and a lot of it is due to locals or soldiers from the nearby base getting drunk and rowdy.

As long as you're not a complete asshat running around the city alone, use the buddy system, stick to Inner Harbor, let friends/family know when/where you're going etc., and stay street smart, most people don't have any problems with Baltimore at all.
