In a slightly different direction from the generic Weeaboo Horror Stories thread, I want to hear about your Weeaboo Horror Apparel stories.

How many of you used to cosplay to school?
Be honest, fess up, who used to wear a cat bell or a collar casually?
Did you ever cut your hair to resemble an anime characters?
Ever witnessed a classmate take it that little bit further to the point where they'd attempt to completely embody a character in every way?

Picture related, she's a big Gumi fan apparently.

FFX-2 somehow ended up being my first Final Fantasy game, and I was enthralled (and confused) by the story that I attempted to cut my hair like Yuna's.
You can imagine how it ended up and I dearly wish I had pictures because it looked godawful but as expected my teenage self thought I looked the shit.

I parted my hair into four bits and put them up with hairbands - all mismatched and different sizes too.
I also used to try to make my hair like Ino's, where I would basically pull most of the hair on one side of my head to the front over my eye and wear the rest up in a ponytail.
I also used to wear my ninja headband that I got at my very first ever convention almost everyday.

What a shame, the girl in OP is pretty. I know this one girl, her last year of high school cut her hair like that, like she did it herself, but did not even bother to manage it. It was frizzy and gross. Her natural face is kind of wreckish, some make up would do her wonders. So much wasted potential. I had the misfortune of finding out she also attends the college I go to and has not changed a bit when she greeted me with a squee and that supah kawaii forced high pitched voice, hair still the same. Her fashion sense has also evolved from Mom-buys-my-clothes-from-Walmart to I-buy-my-clothes-from-Walmart-with-a-Nihongo-twist-desu.

I wanted to buy a dog collar so bad but I was too embarrassed to try one on in the store...maybe it's a good thing. I guess the fact that I had to wear a uniform (catholic school) prevented me from having such a high clothing budget and doing horrible fashion experiments. It might also help that we didn't have a Hot Topic in the country at the time and the anime store in town did not carry tees either.

I went through my weaboo phase during my freshman/sophomore year of college. Yeah, awesome. I don't even have the luxury of claiming it was those silly high school or middle school years.
I actually went through a phase where I would try to incorporate one piece of a costume with each outfit I would put together. As a costume design/construction student, I thought it would make me seem quirky, edgy, creative, whatever else...
This was also before I learned the joys of using wigs, so I styled my own hair for certain costumes, and therefore lived with it the rest of the time. Sometimes it worked, other times it did not.
Goodness it was so bad. So bad. I'm still getting tagged in photos from my department in school, and I just weep to see what I was wearing.
I looked like a crazy person, and I am surprised anyone ever talked to me at all.

One quick story too: My friend and I once went to a '70s themed free skate night dressed in closet cosplay of Roxas and Sora. We spent a good hour and a half styling our actual hair into Square Enix spikes, and thought we looked pretty darn awesome. (Spoiler alert, we looked terrible.) We did have an awesome time, though, and plot twist, the DJ was actually impressed with our crazy hair and we even won a gift certificate in the costume contest. I actually didn't know cosplay was a thing until the end of my senior year in high school, but I never had a compelling interest to look like an anime character either because I knew I most definitely did not. Didn't stop me from being a disgusting mall goth as a freshman, a scummy looking icp fag as a sophomore, and a cheap looking prostitute with platinum hair extensions the rest of the time.
>Be honest, fess up, who used to wear a cat bell or a collar casually?
Nope. For me it was bondage pants and armwarmers. Also had this stupid fantasy of dying the ends of my hair green or blue. Good thing my parents didn't allow me to do that. Gag me with a spoon.

Yes, and they were usually asshole elitists who thought they knew better about ~*~nippon~*~ and ~*~anime~*~ and ~*~kawaii~*~ than everyone else. I didn't like these people.

It probably looked really dumb.
I use to wear goggles and naruto headbands like hairbands and I don't think many people noticed the naruto headbands unless they knew the show. Wore a cat collar as a necklace a couple times. Dropped all this by second year of high school, still have headbands as a reminder.

Unfortunately, yeah. I feel much more comfortable with a collar on. It makes me feel secure. I guess you could compare it to a security blanket. Or maybe when you forget to wear your watch for a day? And you keep grabbing your wrist to adjust it or to check the time, and it isn't there? The lack of weight on your arm making you feel like your hand'll just shoot off into space?
Sort of like that. But I don't want to be an obnoxious wad about it. So that's why I'd do something subtle and would never combine leather + bell, only go for one or the other.

Pic is another idea. Bell is much too big for my tastes, though.

People are going to assume you are into bondage if it looks too much like a collar.
Anyone I have seen with a collar has a "master" (since they are a "slave"/"sub")
Usually these are the collars with the O-rings on them and stuff.
Meanwhile I know a few furries who wear the collars with the big bells on them.

There is a reason you can buy collars like those from sex shops, bondage websites, and websites that sell furry tails and ears. (i.e. Pawstar)

> If it looks like a collar, and you do NOT want to be associated with either of these groups, then you are going the wrong direction.

Google 'fetish collar' if you are worried. A lot of the leather collars you see, though, WILL be easily found in sex shops like Castle however.

If it looks like it should be on an animal, then it's a no-go.

Those two lace ones are fine, anon just thinks the bigger ribbon is ugly.

Small bells are best, though all bells are rather obnoxious. So at least make it so it won't make noise.

A leather choker like in the image you just posted is fine, since it does not look like it would be on a dog's neck.
Adding any rings, bells, or buckles, however, would make it look 'dog-like.'

Giant bells, o-rings, giant buckles = all bad, always.

Ribbon chokers are just... well, chokers, so whatever.
Small bells on those are best only.

If it looks like it could or should be on an animal, basically, then it's a no-go.

My hair is currently in the style of Brief from PSG. Orange and low bangs and everything. But then again I don't style it and it is thick enough to look good.

Had a week during my weeb phase when I decided I was going to do naruto makeups. I think I did Gaara, Oroshimaru, that pierced akatsuki guy and I can't remember. Straightened my hair and did Misa Amane ponytails.
I tried to be visual kei, my hair was just frizzy and long though. Wore skirts over grey jeans and layered different shirts matched with armwarmers and palestina scarfs. Thankfully I never did the eyeswirls and for only havig three different eyeliners, black white and red eyeshadow and a terribad mascara I did pretty decently. Though it was still bad. Oh well.
I remember once drawing a diamond on my cheekbone. It looked decent it was just stupid and out of place.
Once wore my terrible chopper had made out of cardboard to school.
Had a old studded belt that I wrapped twice around my neck and used as necklace, collar thing.

I never really got around to buy any embarassing clothing or anything as I for one thing hated buying clothes and for another was to nervous to go into our local alternative fashion shops.

I then went on to black hair with red extensions and blond coontail fringe. It didn't actually look half bad. I have to admit I miss it at times.

Well I'm the girl who posted with the collar and funnily enough, I bought my small black one from the exact same seller who makes the pink one.

Her eBay name is penny_soo_twirly and you can find her at this link:

http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/penny_soo_twirly

Her shop is closed right now due to her recieving a large number of orders, but she also has an Etsy, so here's the link to the pink one you were looking at:

Just as a note, the one I'm wearing in my picture has a different bell on it to the one advertised in the original listing. I didn't like the bell she coupled it with (a bit too square) and wanted a more anime-looking bell so I sent her a message and she swapped it for a bell she uses with other collars so if you plan to buy from her then just make sure you do this before you buy. They're all handmade anyway so it's not an issue for her :)

erm right, 4chan is being a cock and thinks this post is spam, but you can find this girls Etsy if you google "etsy twirly trinkets".

Here are some of my coveted lolita coords from when I was in middle school.

1. This was like, my first one. I was so proud of that cat ear hat. I guess kinda thought it was a more classic gothic style.

2. Gosh, this was a Naruto themed coord I made, mainly because I had an orange sweatshirt and was desperate to scrounge together as many coords as I could. lol flipflops with fishnets, cuz that's what ninjas wore rite?

3. Sweet lolita. This wasn't horrible as just an outfit, but i wore at least 15 of those shitty rainbow hair extensions. But I wore them to like..make my hair longer, so they were all clipped in one row on the bottom of my hair. So frizzy brown hair, and scene kid extensions to make them longer. I just...fuck.

4. A more elegant gothic style lolita. Those 'arm warmers' were tights i cut and put finger holes in. That dress was so short you could prob see my ass.

5. Oh God, I was so proud of this coord..this was like, the final ita lolita coord I put together before I realized I was a fucking idiot. I stole those minnie mouse ears from my baby cousin. I was out of control.

Thank God my mom never bought me any of the 100's of Milanoo dresses I begged her for. I also didn't know about conventions or lolita comms back then, thankfully. I did wear this shit to school all the time, but at least I didn't make an idiot out of myself and show up at meets.

#3 isn't bad, but I agree with the extentions.

Thankfully when I was in middle school, I was just a total dork and wore terrible things, but anime was virtually not that well known outside maybe Sailor Moon, which I wasn't into. I was just a huge Disney nerd. I did have some terrible outfits:

Horrible spandex leotard with long sleeves that had a tacky colorful coin print on it with a hot pink net shawl sorta thing, and hot pink tight pants (sort of like skinny jeans but they sat closer to the waist), and pastel colored flat sneakers. Oh and I had a really bad outdated 80's haircut that looked horrible with my hair texture. And giant purple and teal plastic-framed glasses (everyone called them Barney glasses), I thought it was a cute outfit...

Though when I was in college I had a really minor weeb stage, granted I was older. But I did have little cat ear hairclips from Hot Topic that I wore out in public a lot. Thankfully that was it.

>How many of you used to cosplay to school?
I didn't usually cosplay to school, unless it was "spirit week" when everyone dressed weird. I did wear my old Allen Walker coat from D. Gray-Man a couple times, but it was professionally made by someone else, so at least it wasn't a hot mess. More than costumes, I wore kogal in my junior and senior years and in college, but I'm tiny and know how to match skirts, blazers, ties, etc. (no sailor style), so I'm not forever cringing.

>Be honest, fess up, who used to wear a cat bell or a collar casually?
I did this a little a long time ago, but I stopped pretty quickly. I just wore regular chokers instead.

>Did you ever cut your hair to resemble an anime characters?
I didn't cut it to resemble any particular character, but I cut it so that I had some chin length hair that I left down when I put up the rest into a ponytail or other hairstyle. It was animu inspired but didn't look too bad.

I had a friend who bleached her hair for Misa from Death Note though. She styled it exactly like Misa's hair (not every day though). She usually used wigs, but I guess she just got really into her Misa cosplay. The color looked good on her, so I don't think she stares at her old pictures in horror.

>Ever witnessed a classmate take it that little bit further to the point where they'd attempt to completely embody a character in every way?
Fuck yes. I had a guy friend who just adopted the personality of whatever anime character he really liked at the time. It was really annoying. The three I can remember are Kyo from Fruits Basket, Edward Elric from FMA, and Ayumu Narumi from Spiral. Ayumu was the worst, since he started just acting like a dick. (He didn't dress like the characters all the time, but he took their personalities and mannerisms.)

There wasn't a question for this, but I had a friend in college who cosplayed almost daily for the first two years that I knew her. She went to class and everything like that.

My weeb phase wasn't terrible, but a lot of it unfortunately shown in my haircuts.
I wanted a new hairstyle and wanted to go shorter and maybe try to pull off the wispy shorthair look of Sasuke or something. Needless to say, the duckbutt style looked terribad on me. Also long dramatic strands of hair in the front with a very short back, sort of A-frame looked terrible on me, also inspired by animu girls.
Eventually everything grew out, but eugh. What a terrible time in my life for hairstyles.

I also tried to dye my hair blue once for a convention. "Well the character has blue hair, and I think it'd be cool to have blue hair, so I can go ahead and do this." Leaving an 8th grader alone to dye her hair with kool-aid is one of the worst things my mother could have done. Luckily my friend came in and tried to salvage the project midway, but it was no good. I ended up with a weird gradient because all of the dye and conditioner was concentrated on the top of my head and faded back into blonde at the tips.
What's worse is that I had a terrible haircut to already match the terrible dye job, and the blue ended up turning out more like a Sailor Neptune green. And of course, it lasted for 6 months.

Glad that's over with. Never again. Luckily this was pre-the Facebook boom, so even though I have photos, no one will ever have to see.

>Kawaii, which translates as 'adorable', is a Japanese sub-culture which places emphasis on being as cute as possible.
Although the best known aspect of Kawaii is the kitsch fashion, Kawaii girls and boys also apply the concept to the way they live and behave.
>While it looks similar to other Japanese cultural phenomena such as Hara Juku, Kawaii girls have a more doll-like appearance, with big doe-eyes, pastel-coloured make-up and colourful hair.
Kawaii fashion is based on Victorian fashion, with wearers intent on looking cute, innocent and pretty courtesy of lace, ribbons, bows, ruffles and aprons.
>The most common form of Kawaii is the Classic Lolita, which has subsets, including the Sweet Lolita, which has even more ribbons, bows, and lace, and Fairy Kei, which often includes giant bow headdresses or bonnets.
>Because Kawaii is a lifestyle rather than a purely fashion phenomenon, certain behaviour such as high pitched voices and girly giggles are expected of those who embrace it.

No but I had some laughably bad "gothic lolita" outfits I got off ebay that either looked like square dancing outfits or were glued together because I refused to spend more than $30 on anything.I'm glad I had that limit or else I'd be up to m eyes in ita Bodyline outfits by now. (I was obsessed with them in high school)
>Be honest, fess up, who used to wear a cat bell or a collar casually?
My friend bought me a collar and sometimes I put this massive bell on it. Thankfully some time after high school I lost the collar.
>Did you ever cut your hair to resemble an anime characters?
I had a hime-cut for a while in high school.
>Ever witnessed a classmate take it that little bit further to the point where they'd attempt to completely embody a character in every way?
One upperclassman would dress up as Witch Hunter Robin all the time, and this one girl I knew looked like she stepped out a Hot Topic photoshoot. I'm just glad I left high school before Hetalia, Vocaloid, and Homestuck hit.

Heheh, I actually have a story I can share in this thread.
When I was in grade 5, I was a huge narutard, and I was obsessed with Hinata Hyuga specifically. I asked a hairdresser to cut my hair like hers, but she ended up doing it like pic related instead, so when I got home I cut (horribly and straight-across) around the front pieces myself so it looked like Hinata's hair. I have naturally straight dark brown hair and light eyes, so I was really content with that fortunately. I can't imagine how terrible it'd be if I'd tried to wash-out dye my hair blue-black or some ugly shit that wouldn't of suited me and wouldv'e looked shitty once my roots grew in. I had a few friends who were also narutards, but two of them were boys and they didn't adjust their looks or anything like I did. I also used to only wear (literally almost every single day) a light beige hoodie, black yoga capri pants, and blue sandals (like a closet cosplay of Hinata's outfit). It was disgusting. Oh, and my friend and I used to draw Naruto's cheek lines, Sasuke's weird black marks on his neck, and Gaara's eyeliner on ourselves in black sharpie. We were horrible kids, haha. Looking back on it, I'm not even embarrassed, I just feel like laughing.

Ugh. I never want to remember early high school. I deleted a lot of my photos but I dug up one from my facebook. I dyed my hair half and half when I went through the Jrock phase because I wanted to be like Waka from Danger Gang. When I cut it, I did what OP's photo looks like, and spiked the back like Sasuke's hair. I was dubbed Duckbutt for a week and I kept it up until I ran out of hairspray.
Thank god, I never wore cosplay to school but I wore the dumbest hats.

>black and white striped arm warmers
>my crazy long hair (past my ass) my in twin tails
>A fuck-ton of rainbow bracelets and shit.

As soon as my ass hit the backseat of my mothers car I knew I looked retarded and begged her to let me out to change. She said we were running late and I was stuck in that ugly shit all day. Lucky for me, she had a jacket in the back that managed to cover most of the disaster I was calling clothing. I also let down my hair and removed the bracelets and arm-warmers.

>Be honest, fess up, who used to wear a cat bell or a collar casually?
I own a few collars but being home schooled made me very shy and I never really wanted to stick out much so I never wear anything like that out. I wear them around my house alone, or maybe at a rave sometimes but that's it. I find them very sexy so wearing them out makes me uncomfortable.

>Did you ever cut your hair to resemble an anime characters?
I used to style (again my stupid love hair my dad didn't want me to cut except my bangs) like Naru's from Love Hina (My first manga at the age of 12) but that's it.

I was kinda inspired by anime characters though, like watching a lot of Kuroshitsuji made me want to power clean my house and cook big fancy meals for my family, reading Hikaru no Go made me want to study, watching Dragon Ball made me positive like Goku. But like, I never RPd IRL or said, "Enjoy your food masters and madams." Dude that would be gay.

Her roman catholic mom doesn't know about them, she's going to community college, and we left highschool....3 months ago?

I guess it's hard for me to accept that she has these permanently etched on her body, but she's happy with them and that's all that matters. I think a little less than half, depending on the type of school. I've gone to two schools that required uniforms. One was in the ghetto where I lived in second grade, the other was in sixth (not in the ghetto). It just depends on the people in charge, I guess. I like having uniforms, but when I mentioned that, my classmates would freak out, so it's not a common sentiment.
Our uniforms are just a solid colour, button-up shirt, of any sleeve length, are long as they're there, and navy/khaki pants, usually.

Nope, but I did use one of my Naruto headbands as a belt one day in 6th grade. I would also wear my Naruto and Death Notes shirts publicly and still do (actually wearing one right now xD). In 7th and part of 8th I was invited into an anime club at the local library crowded with weaboos and there was some fat white chick in a really bad quality akatski cloak and an Asian boy who use to dress as a cowboy and had a squeaky voice.

>Be honest, fess up, who used to wear a cat bell or a collar casually?

8th grade.. Mint from Tokyo Mew Mew. Everyone thought it was from Bleach though and would call me that persons name (can't remember at the moment)

>Ever witnessed a classmate take it that little bit further to the point where they'd attempt to completely embody a character in every way?
There was this fat Mexican guy in my sophomore English class. Short hair and glasses with a lazy eye that always drifted to the outer side so you never really knew what he was looking at.. He use to call me princess Kairi (KH) and would also call me Tsubaki (Soul Eater) and Shakira for some fucking reason I don't know. He was in love with me and managed to get my number from one of my friends in the same class. He would text me calling me beautiful and dressing me as "Hun" saying that if he was my boyfriend, he would do anything and everything for me. I told my boyfriend about it was was really sick at the thought because that same guy was trying to befriend him and was really annoying. This guy would copy lines from anime as if he came up with them himself and everyday would put on a persona of a different anime character.. one day in the computer lab I had asked to see his phone, ofc he said yes. Bit annoying when people think I dress so weird I'm a sort of public, walking freakshow and they are allowed to stare and touch and push and yell and try to make conversation when I'm QUITE obviously late/running somewhere. I don't even dress too weeaboo, I just happen to live in Brazil. On a big city, but still - huehue. And all of that considering that 1- brazilians love foreigners 2- I'm mistook for a foreigner almost everyday. Must be such a pain to actually look like you live here.

My friends and I actually managed to get "No cat ears" and "No capes" into our dress code at school. The cat ears part was because we wore them to protest the new uniform policy, the capes was because we threatened to make ones in school colors and wear them every day when they took out "Kawaiiiii nekomimi desu~" away. I also dressed up like Mana for heroes day freshmen year of high school. I mostly just used it as an excuse to wear ita clothes.

God we were disgusting.

Not those, but one time I wore a black version of pic related to my campus. You'd think it was the first time anyone saw a hairband with a bow-like knot at the top.

I was friends with this girl in one of my classes. She was super smart, but insanely obese. I'm talking 300+ pounds. And usually I'm not biased against overweight people, but I felt pretty put off by her when she mocked me for wearing "bunny ears." She was always super sensitive about her image too (like being paranoid that the 'skinny bitches' were talking shit about her when I'd drag her to the pool to swim) and I was just surprised that she'd openly mock someone else when she'd freak out at the slightest whisper.

I have the hairband in your picture. A lot of the time I have the same fear about looking like a raging weeb for wearing cat ears, but I try to tell myself I'm just being oversensitive because I'm already immersed in weeb culture.
I think it helps to put them together with an outfit that already has some kind of feline theme throughout, like leopard-print fabric or cat tattoo tights, so it doesn't look like you're just adding the ears randomly to be totally kawaii desu. picture related, I thought this was ok.

>How many of you used to cosplay to school?
In 6th grade I went to the halloween dance as my 'original character' cat demon girl I created for the sole purpose of Yu Yu Hakusho fan fiction. Actually in 5th grade I used her in my book for my schools Young Authors thing they did every year, it was sort of a contest but everyone wrote a short story and put it in a bound book with their own drawings. We had groups where we read excepts out loud and I just... eeugh

Just for perspective, from 4th-7th grade I loved the shit out of Quizilla, especially its rampant you-fiction. (In 7th grade I hated anime but it was alll about Guns N Roses. Yeah I know, what the ever living fuck went on in my head back then is even a mystery to me)

Oh yeah and part of the costume was a velvet cat collar, that pointed down in the very front, with a plastic blue jewel glued on. Complete with white halloween store wig with two strips in the front color hair-sprayed black.

>Did you ever cut your hair to resemble an anime characters?
No but I soooo wanted to do OP's haircut in elementary school.
I had an angled bob, and dyed my hair a super coppery color early my senior year. Every week this girl I knew would come up to me, point, and say "hey it's Ramona Flowers!!!" like clockwork, although I had zero idea what Scott Pilgrim was at the time.

>Ever witnessed a classmate take it that little bit further to the point where they'd attempt to completely embody a character in every way?
In 5th grade, a new girl moved in, who was a full blown weeaboo at such a tender age. She loved YuGiOh and slave catgirls - the kind that tried to "please their master"- with a passion.

One day on the playground she was acting especially weird so me and my best friend physically dragged her into the guidance counselor's office, with her screeching "MOSHI MOSHI" the entire time. She moved away then came back in 8th grade, and wore Misa pigtails contantly and had a Deathnote messenger bag and wore terribad ita stuff from Hot Topic. She moved away again when she got in a fight and *bit* a senior cheerleader, who actually kicked her ass and had her in a headlock.

ok here we go. i'll admit, i was a GIANT weeaboo in middle school. but i never wore anything weebish in public thanks to being friends with the "popular girls", my mom and not liking to be stared at.
but this one girl, holy shit. now that i look back on it, she wore cosplay to school because she didn't want to be herself because of her shitty home life. but she would (and i have no idea how since our uniforms were strict):
>wear akatsuki jacket to school
>closet cosplay of ed from fma to school
>wear her hinata cosplay to school-which was held together by fucking staples (full except for her pants, which she wore uniform pants)
>cut her hair short like hinata and would use elmer's glue to style it. in her REAL hair.
>mall in full cosplay with her equally weebish friends
now she's a furry and you never see her out of suit. and she steals money (up to hundreds of dollars) from her handicapped father so she can go to cons. and we're both 21 now. i feel so bad for her since she's just getting worse.
