Eh, I always got the impression from a lot of cosplayers that genderbending was annoying and attention whore-y. Sort of like how some people got upset with genderbent Avengers. I didn't want to trample on someone's favorite character and tarnish them for them. I've had that happen to me for characters that were portrayed by certain "cosplayers" and it's going to sound stupid, but it was like, "Wow, you fucking assraped my childhood. Thanks a lot, chodecake. I'm gonna go drown my sorrows in fucking mimosas now, because I'm too much of a bitch to go hard and get some kraken."

The fabric of her teal dress actually looks like what I would see on children's life jackets, made by Speedo. Clingy and shiny, with spandex. For her lavender jumpsuit, I have no clue. Same with that wine outfit of hers.

That's probably the best example, though there are dozens of videos out there of her acting like a diva and being just plain rude to her fans. It looks like she's just trying to be funny in the video, but that's actually how she behaves all the time and she's completely serious about all of it; not a hint of benign playfulness, like with Brent Spiner.

I don't know about the whole "ruining" someone's image of a character. You're very attractive, so assuming you actually have access too and/or make high quality costumes, no one could claim that you fucked up the cosplay the way ugly people often do. And I've never bought the "attention whore" argument. That whole notion just seems like an emotional buffer for beta males who'll hate you because you'll never fuck them and beta females who'll hate you because the guys prefer to fantasize about you.

I've tried to see both ends of the argument, only because I've found myself getting pissy when certain characters that I hold close to my heart (I sound so fucking stupid, probably. I'm just waiting for someone to troll me.) have been badly portrayed. And, not even necessarily because the costume wasn't some couture piece of garb crafted by the Vivienne Westwood of cosplay, but because.. They didn't look like who they were trying to portray and, in reality, probably never could. I felt bad about that and I felt stuck up, but a part of me was just like.. "You have x features and this character does not, so why did you.."

It's an inner conflict for me. I wish that I could be like, "Cosplay is for funnnn!~", but I still find myself rubbing my temples when certain people leave their houses looking a certain way and then wonder why the stares that they got were bad ones and not good.

You don't look chubby at all in my opinion. (Sorry if this offends you) I think you kinda look pretty feminine because you're small, slim, with big eyes and full lips, plus you have an hourglass figure. Mugi is more childish and girly, although you do seem to be about the same size, I'll give you that. You also need the personality to go with the character, so take that into consideration. Age doesn't seem to be a problem because you're apparently short and your skin is blemish-free and doesn't have any wrinkles though. By all means, cosplay as her, I just think There are better options. But hey, I might be wrong. You'd make a very good Margaret moonlight, Bad girl and Sylvia (all from NMH).

it's hard to see exactly what your face shape is from the pictures you posted, but maybe look at Jonathan from the new SMT game if you're into that sort of thing.
Also maybe Kira Yamato from Gundam Seed? I'm really shit at suggesting cosplays, but iirc he has a skin tone/build similar to you.

ita is a term denoting a lolita so poorly dressed that it hurts.
a black dress with a lot of cheap white lace and one of those flat, maxipad headdresses is probably the oldest/most recognizable image of an ita. I still think her design looks really cool, though.

Sort of both, bought one but it was not dark enough blue for my liking. I redid it in the darker blue using the bought one as a pattern. And by redid, I mean someone else taught me how to sew using it and basically did it using my hands.

For FMA stuff I'd advise to just buy it. It's popular enough that the outfits are only like $10 more than making it from scratch, and you really don't want to alter/draw the gloves yourself.
