Also if no guys can cosplay from it because you claim they could only want to get laid then all that leaves is crossplayers awkwardly trying to hide their breasts and making out with each other.

So far, I've only made the other bones and claws. These are all the animal bits that hang from the hip of the skirt, I fashioned them to either look like a claw or a fang. All that's left is the weird-ass hip antler, which now just needs the same paint treatment these got. After that, I have to sculpt the arm claws and I can move on to the fur work.

And as far as the body issue goes: I'm not the leanest piece of meat in the world, but I'll do okay.

Please do not listen to these people. Doing anything permanent for the sake of a single cosplay is overly drastic and stupid, even something as minor as ear piercing.
Now if you wanted to get your ears pierced anyways, then go for it, but if the absolute only reason for dong it is for this one costume, then stop. Buy some clip-on backings and some sculpy from a craft store and make your own clip-ons. They do not hurt, and no one will look down on you for using them instead of getting your ears pierced.

I have a 3 week window between classes starting today (not counting 24+ hours of work a week) so my girlfriend and I decided to start on our costumes for this halloween. We are going as cyberpunk samurais, she'll be doing her costume pretty much exactly like in pic related, plus some gadgets, and I'll be basing mine on the picture but I'll let my imagination flow once I start working with the foam (first time).

I'll leave the mask for last, since I don't know if I want a gas mask or a paper mache half mask piece, and at any rate if I run out of time I can just throw on some goggles and bandana.

Just started working on a marth cosplay (SSBB model) for my friend. So far i have the sword and breastplate-armor thing done. This should be quite intresting for me, seeing as its my first build that will involve actual sewing and fabric work (hot glue seams my have been fine for the fallout vet ranger jacket, but that shit aint gonna fly here). Itll also be my first time styling a wig. Ive been hitting tutorials like crazy to study up, but im still absolutely terrified. Hoping to be done for matsuricon in a few weeks here, wish me luck.

I do not mean to discourage you, but that armor will not last long at all. The foam will flex and bend, but the paint will not, and very soon it will all start to crack. You can already see it starting on the edges and especially where it connects to the shoulder parts. You'll to use some sort of primer/sealer before painting your foam. I recommend flexbond, but be sure to apply several layers.
However, I am also noticing the raw edges look quite jagged and chipped, especially on the blue section. Have you given any thought to covering the armor in maybe Wonderflex or Worbla? You'll still need a primer before painting of course, but it will help make it much sturdier and smooth out those rough edges.

Okay, first off i dont want to come off as one of those guys who throws a fit when they get constructive critisism, i really do appreciate it and i love learning from it. However i have to partially disagree with you. Ive been doing armor out of EVA foam for a while now, and ive never once had a single issue with it falling apart/paint coming off/really damage in any way. My first EVA build was an ODST from halo i did 2 years ago. 75% of it was foam, the rest fiberglass, and after countless cons the only malfunctions ive had with it have been from the parts that werent foam. On the other hand, i did not actually notice the wrinkling on the piece, i usually do coat my stuff in plasti-dip, but i ran out and thought i could get away with not using it here. It appears i was wrong, thank you. And as for the rough edges around the neck, i actually couldnt care less about them. If you look at the character model, there is a cape that goes over this armor piece and hugs the wearers neck (along with the collar of the tunic underneath) and thus those rough edges will be totally hidden when the cape is put on. Also i have a deep (and totally unrelated) hatred for worbla/wonderflex, but that is a disscussion best saved for another thread.

>> No.7006109

>>7006046
I was actually referring to the rough edge of the blue section of the shoulder area, which, even with the cape on, will still be visible.
However, after seeing the reference image, I wonder if maybe making it all out of foam is the best way to go. The blue area looks much more rounded/curved and not as sharp as the gold area. Might I suggest making the blue section out of padded leather/pleather/vinyl to give it a little more of that depth and curvature.
I am also noticing that there looks to be some scrollwork along the gold trim. If you have a steady hand, you could probably draw that out with a thick bead of hot glue and then paint over it.

Got a little progress done today. I am working on gluing foam peices to a mic I painted. I scratched the pink paint so I need to see if I can mix a color close to it and repaint the top so the scratch doesnt show as much.
I started to also cut out the designs on Morgiana's cuffs, and I already got the chains prepared to hang off it. I am waiting for the gems to dry before I go any further. the gems I bought were the PERFECT size, but wrong color. so I am seeing I can use the nail polish on the back to make it darker, instead of painting it on top and risking getting those nasty streaks.
also took a look at my yoko gloves and decided to man up and remake the gloves, I wont be happy until they are perfect. this is my punishment for choosing to cosplay yoko.

I was considering the hot glue thing, ive done it before and gotten decent results, but it seems a bit complex for that. dunno, ill probably give it a try. And yeah in all honesty foam probably isnt the best way to go for the look, but as i said its for a friend and he doesnt want to spend some huge amount of money on something like leather/some other thick material like that. Plus foam work is pretty quick for me, whereas fabric work is definitely not, and we are in a bit of a time crunch. I will for sure be getting a new can of plasti-dip and repainting it though, that definitely needs done. While im at it i might as well round the edges up too i guess.

Well to clarify, i dont look down upon people who use it or anything, i just personally dont like using it. The main beef i have with it is the price. Im a student, and i do this stuff on the side for fun mainly, and i cant afford to cough up a load of money for what is (in my opinion of course) an extremely overpriced material. Dont get me wrong, ive seen some amazing cosplays done from worbla, but at the same time ive also seen those same costumes made from cheaper materials and they look just as good.

>>7006195
The blade and hilt were made from pink insulation foam carved to the rough shape, which i then sealed with latex paint, covered in fiberglass resin, then finally bondo'd and sanded to their current shape. Then i used duplicolor instant chrome spray paint for the blade, you can find it at auto stores for about $7 per can. Heres a better shot of the blade, its not perfectly smoothed, i know, but again its a bit of a rush job so i dont really have a whole week to spend sanding the thing to perfection unfortunately.

While I certainly wanted to make both, both of these are beyond anything I usually make, so I'm doing the Forsworn first because it's presenting a lot of challenges that I'll face with the Stormcloak Officer.

I'm still not sure how I'll do the Stormcloak Officer helmet, if I do it at all. As much as I love the set as a whole, I'm not entirely comfortable with wearing a real bear head, and I'm having a hard time finding realistic (and reasonably priced) alternatives.

First, I'd like to say I do like this costume, but listen. I've seen people make some really complicated and incredible things in less time than four days. (And yes, that time included full time jobs and other adult priorities.) So saying "It only took X amount of days" doesn't make it an incredible feat, or excuse anything about the costume.

Also, you have an attractive body and a good shape for Rikku, but like others have stated: the push up top is a bit much. You've got a really great body, and could easily get away with less boobage, which would definitely be more accurate to the character.

While I'm on the topic of accuracy, I'd like to ask about the strings on your bottom and the border of the bikini top. In the pictures, they look almost neon, do they look like that in person? Because if so, it's not doing your costume any favors. The color just doesn't match up right. If you can change it at some point, it'd definitely make the costume look better. It looks really bright against the scarf, which is one of my favorite pieces of your costume. The skirt is a nice color, too, I'm glad you went green instead of brown!

Forsworn, reporting in. I decided to try my hand at some war paint. Now, what I'm using here is not what I'll be using for the final product, I ordered some cake makeup for that! But I wanted to try out the different war paints before I settled on a design. Initially, I was just going to do the paint that my character uses, but since I plan to use that for my Stormcloak Officer armor, I decided to do something different for the forsworn.

...And then the power went out, which is why this picture is so grainy. I had just about finished, so I decided to go ahead and take a picture before removing what I had done.

I think this is the design and color I'll settle on, but I'm not sure that I'm terrifying enough, yet. And I have no idea what I'm doing with my hair.

I tried some other paints. They aren't picture perfect but I was just sort of slapping them on, removing them, then doing the next one. Again, this isn't the product I'm going to use for the final paint! I just wanted to get an idea of what each one would look like on me.

Saber Alter progress. My armor drafted so far. Shoe stuff is out of craft foam while the other plates are poster board. I have the chestplate drawn up with measurements, but I don't have the craft foam to try it out with yet, so I'll be getting some more tomorrow [or Friday, if I get paid late]. This is my first time making armor for anything.

I am ummm, making the easiest crap ever, haha.
Going to a day of Kumoricon and I don't want to wear a wig, so I'm going to be cosplaying Tank Girl which has been a dream cosplay of mine for a bit.
So progress I've got so far is I ordered a bunch of crap on the internet, I made my necklace for it, and I went and bought fabric for my butt/crotch flap, dyed it, and I am distressing the ever living fuck out of it. I'm gonna keep going at it with a cheese grater for the rest of the night and then go roll it in the dirt tomorrow.

More Lambda-11 (Blazblue) progress. This looks so much better IRL. Rustoleum's oil-based Aluminum paint is my new favorite paint ever. I had to use a brush-on paint because the huge long pointy parts are made from insulation foam, but I like it probably more than regular spray paint because I can fix any drips.

Hate it because it takes 24 hours to fully dry and once it's on your skin you have to SCRUB it with mineral spirits, and once it's on cloth, it's on.

Painted the arm blades also, but they had to dry really awkwardly (painted last night) so no pics yet.

(Also I'd love feedback before I apply the second coat and add in the lens/LEDs)

Pretty good for a first attempt i guess, but theres a lot to work on if you want it to really look good. Biggest thing i think is that you shouldnt cut slits in the breastpads to dome them like you did. If youre serious about foam work you NEED to get a heat gun, you can get a really decent one from harbor freight for like $15~$20. Itll let you heat the foam and bend it into shapes you want, then itll stay in that shape. Also, the breastpads themselves are on a bit crooked, and the line scoring you did on the center there is kind of all over the place. Honestly id say get yourself a heat gun and some more foam and give it another go. Its a huge improvement from the first one you posted, but theres still quite a ways to go.

My only bit of progress, I finally got on painting yoko's top, I am trying to figure out the gloves still, and I turned a ugly gem I got from the store into a prettier one (the one on the left is the before) I plan on maybe before otakon making Homura's soul gem. I mixed paint for the mic and it matched up pretty well. I just have to wait till the unmatched paint dries. Morgiana's gauntlets are almost ready to be spray painted.

i've actually got a heat gun, i didn't even think of using it due to it hiding in my tool box in the back of my room. i'll probably be doing a bunch of work on things over time anyways, so its all a learning experience for me. i dont exactly have a deadline for this costume, so i can try different things and techniques. I am gonna try to fill and smooth those slits over with something, just not sure yet.

how do you get your craft foam edges to look so clean and smooth? especially the curvy bits. i recently had to make a lot of ridiculous shapes for a sword guard but the edges were always rough and "piecing off". i thought modge podge would smooth everything out later but it just made it worse.

there came a point during this where i just sat over my petti and cried, asking the powers that be what i had done.

i think i've created a monster. I have to work out what's going on with some layers- whether they really are too long, or whether they are just laying wrong. And it's still not enough ruffle for me. I think I'm going to do two more slightly longer layers on the inside to prevent any unsavory sights, and put double-layered ruffles on those two.

this was thin craftfoam I bought from ACmoore, I dunno if the ironing helped it or what, but I ironed it a bit flatter, so it will indent less. then I used scissors and slowly cut it out by hand. the outter edges of this thing is uneven though due to my miscalculations ...
