I think it'¨s mostly the petticoat, honestly. The dress is too long for the petti. Don't get me wrong, the dress is still shit though.

I hate the fuck out of bears of any kind on anything, so I hate this automatically. It's clouding my judgement but I'm almost offended by the ugliness of this dress.

Personally I'd take it apart, turn it into a skirt, and shorten that space under the bear pattern. Or depending on the length, remove the bear part all together. Maybe take the excess fabric and turn it into a bag.

I needed a bolero to wear with one of my dresses, so I decided to just make one since the con's in a week and I don't want to spend $60+ on it used. No problem, it'll be easy! I've been sewing for years, I can make things that hold up well to wear/washing, overall pretty good craftsmanship. Never sewed anything outside bows and accessories for Lolita. I end up with this horrible ita disaster and I just want to cry out of shame. I can fix the bad parts no problem, but I'm so embarrassed that I'd even make something that bad looking. I should know better. At least it's sewn well... but fuck.

This might actually be somewhat salvageable if that ribbon at the underbust was taken off, and the sides cut out and re-sewn to make the dress cinch at the waist, rather than right underneath the boobs. That horrible empire waist plus petticoat makes it looks like a nightgown monstrosity.

Or even easier, remove the ribbon, and then wear a link pink or light blue underbust corset over the dress.

I don't think communities are for everyone. I tried meeting up with the one in my area. The girls were all really nice to my face, and I got a lot of compliments. This one bitch did yank on my hair and when she realised it was real told me 'it's not really lolita unless you wear a wig,' and then told me I was too tall to wear dresses, but I figured you can't win them all and tried to avoid her for the rest of the day. That's kind of a challenge in a relatively small group. There was also this chick who was really nice, but brought a doll that she would pretend was talking to people, little creepy. We ended up going to a park for a picnic which was just tea and a lot of pretty bland store bought scones. The wind picked up about 15 minutes in and it was hilarious watching all that hair blow into drinks, sadly that was the high point of the meeting. Almost the entire time was spent badmouthing people I didn't know that this group of girls hated for some reason, and then one of them took her phone out and they just sat there for two hours making fun of pictures of itas on-line and passing the phone around. I don't understand it, but that's just not fun in my opinion. I'm perfectly happy just wearing at conventions and when I'm out with my friends.
