I just got home OP. And as the luck and fates would have it, I lost my camera today. It was on a snap loop which went around my belt and probably got knocked off when Fox's booth was doing it's crazy stuff.

I had a lot of fun photos were on it, but there wasn't anything more I wanted to share than a blind cosplayer at SDCC. She was very beautiful and in a Ghostbuster uniform. I asked to take her picture, and her and the person with her were extremely polite. I wanted to tell her how amazing and cool she was, but the words wouldn't come to my mouth, and I just thanked her and wished her to enjoy the con as I do with everyone I take pictures of.

I hope to find a photo of her someday. It was just so awesome to see someone with that particular disability enjoying themselves at SDCC as well as cosplaying. I admire her so much and she will never know.

Sage for nothing to contribute, please dump OP, it'll be all I get for my SDCC pics.

Here's the thing...Take your largest con, multiply it by 5 and that's SDCC. The bigger SDCC gets, the more things change (the crackdown on sitting and standing, ways to get tickets, etc) and it can be overwhelming since EVERYBODY wants to be a part of it

If it makes any difference, it's way more movie/tv/comic oriented but movies and TV have really taken over because the con can really help build the hype. Really, it all depends on what you like, know and follow.

Not to mention that you will have to pace yourself since there is so much to see, do and even buy but you will have to accept that you just can't do or have it all. And time management is important.

For instance, the Hilton Bayfront Ballroom was jampacked with Cartoon Network panels for the majority of the day. Regular Show, Adventure Time and Venture Bros were back to back and the ballroom can only fit so many folks. If there is an exclusive you're dying to have, you have to make a tough call. And the price tags you will come across can be tough on your wallet if you're a collector as well.

And the crowding. Know the side alleys well. If you're the type whose jimmies are rustled over shoving and bag bumping, you may want to think about this.

Sometimes celebrities are on the exhibit hall floor, it's really up to chance. Usually after a big panel celebrities will go to a place to do autographs. Panels have varying difficulty to get into, there are about 100,000 people in the convention hall and they're all trying to do something or get somewhere. If you're planning on going to a panel for something really popular like a tv show or something then consider lining up a while in advance and going into panels prior so that you have a seat for the panel you really want.

Surprisingly good, but still really up to chance. Last time I went I just walked right by Brian Posehn without noticing and almost walked right into Stan Lee. When it comes to things like signings, they can be hectic.

>How easy is it to get into panels?
Pretty tough on Saturday, especially with the masquerade. It's not impossible to get into everything, but high-profile things like Marvel Movies are a herculean effort.

With me, I don't really try to meet celebs. Jeffrey Tambor had shown up to the Bob's Burger panel and it had just barely hit me with the thunderous applause he got (I was in the Q and A line), I just try to enjoy what's coming up for my favorites

Panels...As I mentioned a post back, it depends on how well or horribly they schedule them. If they are anything like Friday was, asscrack of dawn wakeup is required to get down early if you're not lucky enough to get a very close hotel room. As far as Hall H goes, there was a report of a fist fight to get in so you will have to ask if the movie or huge ass show is worth the risk. Especially since they will NEVER clear the rooms in between the panels which means you will be contending with folks who think that they have the right to camp out through every panel just for a Big Bang/Doctor Who panel no matter how bad you want to see something that's either up and coming guaranteed to be the shit or a big beloved franchise that's in its twilight/on the verge of a big comeback.

For anyone going to SDCC next year or planning to go next year

DON'T GO TO HALL H
DON'T GO TO HALL H
DON'T GO TO HALL H
DON'T GO TO HALL H
DON'T GO TO HALL H

I cannot stress this enough. You will be in there for hours one way or another. The line is long as hell and you will be waiting for hours, not even joking. People will camp out for it overnight if they feel it is necessary. It's not uncommon if a panel is later in the day for people to wait 4+ hours. And when people do get in, they stay in til all the panels they want to see are done. You can have someone arrive for the hall H line at 6am and not leave hall H til 6pm if their panels are through the day. The line snakes in the grass next to the convention center, crosses the street next to the Hilton, and then continues all the way to the docks behind the convention center. It's safe to say that if you are on the docks that you're probably not going to make it inside.

This year to get the same spot in line I was there at 11:30 PM the night before.
And next year it's going to be even worse because of Warcraft. I'm predicting so many crazy neckbeards in line for that shit. I don't think I'll be doing Hall H again, unfortunately. It took too much out of me and I missed so much.
TBH, I'm kind of considering not doing SDCC anymore. They cap of attendees was obviously raised and the amount of people that don't have badges that swarm the downtown area is just retarded. Retarded. I can't even stress how bad it has become.

They put the Walking Dead right before Game of Thrones in Hall H on Friday. It's a crapshoot because you don't know if people are going to empty out after a panel or if they want a later panel. You have to pray like hell that they are only there for something before your panel. Sister spent 5 hours in line because she wanted Walking Dead (8am, waited til 1pm) and not enough people exited. She didn't even get to the grass. I kept telling her to give up. Once she walked from the Hilton side to the grass back to the center she was like "yeah, I know..."

At one point two little girls posed with the zombies in the cage and one of the zombies lifted one against the wall. It was really cool and the girl looked excited.

This was my first SDCC and while I only went for 2 days (fri-sat) it was a good experience. I knew that getting into Hall H was next to impossible so my original plan (more like a guideline) of trying to get into H was basically thrown out the window when I realized the amount of people attending.

The only negative I will mention was I decided to kill some time so I went to a cosplay panel to see if I would learn anything new and to my surprise this Joker guy showed up at the panel before the panel officially started.

Man, you guys were NOT kidding about this guy, I'm not sure if he was invited or if he decided to crash the panel but it's not a good sign for a panel when he decides to mention at the very start on how he's an actor. :|

I will fully agree that in this case he wasn't too bad and I give him points for owning up to the fact that he wasn't the best person to ask questions about when he's only known for the one costume. Did he even make said Joker question?

Anyway, I thought his make up advice about layers was great but I still feel he wasn't exactly the best person to ask to attend (presuming he didn't crash).

Perhaps I was put off with the whole 'I'm an actor so I can project my voice!" as the first thing he talks about.

Horrible egomaniac.
He asks for fanart of him in cosplay as the Joker. Which is essentially just Joker fanart. He also thinks DC modeled a Joker-impersonator after him...instead of just, you know, after the Joker.

Yeah but I mean they kinda asked if he could project since his mic was out or whatever. I think he was trying to lighten the mood...and show off. Sometimes it got kinda annoying.
I think he was okay for the panel since it was for intermediate and advanced cosplay and the other two were way into the advanced realm. His stuff it a lot of detail work with mostly altered bought items, which is I think when done right is entirely acceptable. I mean he made that awesome mallet for the Harley so he's got some skill I guess.

In other news, wow holy fucking cocks, fuck the Dr Who fandom so fucking hard fuck Whovians and the goddamn blue fucking phone boxes they rode in on. I thought I was just being neurotic but during the BrBa panel a metric fuckton of people were walking around and going to the bathroom despite there being bathroom breaks/transition time between panels. I understand that you don't give a shit about my show and that's fine but what the hell is wrong with you to disrespect other fans by walking around during the panel that they also camped out for? We didn't camp out to see your damn lardasses and fez caps walking in front of us, you goddamn wankers. Get fucked.

just be realistic. Every panel I expected to not make because of campers, I didn't make. Look at the whole schedule, examine when panels are and which are before and after, and assess the popularity or tenacity of fandoms. I skipped GoT becuase I knew it'd be insane and the vids would be on youtube. I walked into Always Sunny because it was pretty predictable that there wouldn't be a crunch for that or the panel after.

Panel camping has been a thing since Twilight fans two (three?) years ago. You have to expect it, don't be mad because you didn't.

I'm giving people warning who haven't dealt with it before. It's not like other conventions' panel lines at all. People who have waited a couple of hours for a panel at AX and found success are not going to have that same success with if they think a couple of hours is enough to get into a hot show's panel in hall H. This actually really bothered me when I was looking around at cosplay shots this year. So many sites post "BEST FAN COSTUMES!" and like half are booth babes/dudes. Don't get me wrong, they were damn nice costumes, but not the fan costumes as advertised.

you even see older cosplayers, people who aren't cosplayed to their body-type, or even race, and it's all cool. Things are more laxed there, even with the chaotic environment.

cosplays can be simple or elaborate, and no matter what, everything fits.

Not much in comparison to everything else. Mainly industry panels where they announce stuff and you get Q&A with English licensors/companies. Japanese guests are almost non-existent with the exception of one or two a year not counting company staff. There's usually English VAs floating around (Tara Platt/Yuri Lowenthal are ALWAYS there, but they're cool). Viz didn't have a single Japanese guest which is a pretty sad turn of events but it's been coming over the years. They used to bring over big names like Kubo Tite (this was when Bleach wasn't completely stupid), Arina Tanemura, Hiro Mashima, Nobuhiro Watsuki, Stan Lee with Hiroyuki Takei. Last year they had Eiko Tanaka for the Berserk movie.

There are a couple of interesting panels (to me, probably not to other people) like the one where you listen to translators talk about the shit they've had to deal with, the one about the legal battles and cases that pop up when it comes to hentai, and the Best and Worst Manga of 2013 where everyone goes just to see what gets shittalked (unfortunately both are limited to things that are licensed or getting licensed).

They also show a lot of licensed anime for obvious reasons.

>> No.6993694

>>6993658
Judging by the Viz booth, they usually bring over someone that's related to whatever they're promoting. It didn't seem like they had any big focus this year. Plus they were way busier with another big project unrelated to anime/manga.

I arrived at 3:45 am this year to stay all day in. Was my first year too. My spot in line was IN the marina actually... And In the right middle center of the room after one change of seat after the Hunger Games pane! Really decent places!

And I mean, it seems long to be in that line but I felt like only 2 hours had passed when I finally hit my place in the hall.. You just have to have friendly neighbors in line
