My most recent costume. All my favourite things are on the inside but I'm still pretty pleased with how the exterior turned out despite all the last minute derps. Going to fix it up for wear at a later convention.

That was me, posting progress is pretty much the only thing that keeps me going when I want to throw the costume out of a window. Here's a pic where you can actually see how the sleeves turned out.

It ended up being 30* celcius so I kind of look like hell in 90% of the photos we took, the fake eyelashes literally melted off my face before I could even get into costume...

Those are a good base pair but in the future you might want to look into white turkey/goose quills that could be added in to get the right shape.

The hearts I'd already planned to work on. The color was what got me to just reuse the old hearts from the first design again... I can't seem to find a pink that suits. The shiny was intentional on my part, because the hearts seem to shine, but it makes pictures atrocious so that's getting scrapped...

The wig is something I've been looking for suggestions on, and I'll definitely try something like that.

The straps... Yeah, I see what you mean, though I wonder if perhaps it just didn't transfer as well in photographs... It seems a lot better in person, but the idea is to look good on film as well...

For the skirt, as much as a petti would complete the flapping look, I can't find anything that doesn't just add ridiculous poof. Suggestions?

Thank you! I'm definitely going to take the sleeves in a little, I wasn't sure how much the cut-outs and additional fabric panel would reduce the flexibility of the arm so I didn't fit it as tightly as I could have and regret it.

The fabric was actually some bizarre $4 a metre mystery drapery stuff, it's somewhere between dupioni and satin but it had a lovely drape and was thin enough to shove 6 metres of into a skirt without too much bulk.

Look for a tutu style meaning something that just has one tier of fabric rather than multiple tiers sewn into the same layer. It will make a more triangular than curved poof if any of that makes sense.

The wig needs styling. If you can get the bangs to just get that side swoop it will help a lot with the style of the character and make you recognizable.

The skirt needs a petticoat for the volume.

The hearts look like they would be better off made out of a pink resin.

I personally just don't like feather wings, but considering the style of the show, they look like they would be a lot better if they were flat.

I do love how you improvised those shoes though. It's a shame they curl up along your leg though. Maybe a kind of tape can keep the top bands in place.

The raw edges you see are a result of a flawed method I used. Most of the edges aren't raw, I just made some mistakes near the collar part and the serum I used to prevent fraying didn't work. It's not unfixable if I were to redo it, but I would agree that every individual part of a cosplay is important. From make up, to presentation, and if you're a proper cosplayer you'll learn from your mistakes.
Looking at what I've made and just seeing shit just because of some fraying is probably not the best way to improve. Nice try, though.

Different anon, but frayed edges are typically an insta-death. Treated or not, your edges are technically still raw.
That and there really isn't much else to say... The skirt waistband looks like it's not actually sitting on you but it's hard to tell with the pose, you should probably look into hook and eyes for the armbands so they lay flatter.

It's a harsh judgement, but when there isn't much to the costume, the little problems become rather large... That and you're the one who implied it looked like shit, the first anon literally just pointed out the fraying.

Wish I had better pictures but the white is not tape. It's all spandex, a black spandex suit with a long-sleeved blue stretch shirt cut accordingly. After the blue shirt was sewn on two layers of the white were cut out and sewn on. It was all done in two days time, I know it's a bit rough.

Overall, this isn't terrible, you did pick something semi challenging if you have no prior sewing knowledge so I get you props there. I dunno if this has been said but you might want to tone down on the heavy dark eye make up. And to answer the questions about my Ayla wig and fur! The wig is a Matilda in Ash Blonde from Arda. I did not add another wig to it, but I am contemplating adding wefts to it in the back because if you look super close you can see some of the netting at the back of my head. But I basically curled the heck out of it, cut bangs into it and then teased and back combed it to high hell so it'd be fluffy. My fur is from Distinctive Fabrics! It's their short solids in grey. It came in a little darker than the picture online so that might be why it doesn't look like their fur. But thank you everyone!

Posting my Sailor Pluto since she's the last one I got pictures of. Since Acen, I've changed the positioning of the skirt (lowered the front by an inch and raised the back and sides by an inch) and I'm in the process of making a different tiara because the one I had left big red indents on my forehead.

Okay, that's what I thought but I wanted to make sure. Beyond trying to take more time with the appliques like others have said, I would suggest making the white parts around the tops of the glove and the top of the boots narrower. Those are the only issues I see though. Doing appliques on stretch materials, especially materials like lycra, can be challenging.

Not much creativity with this one, but it sure was fun as hell to wear it.

First cosplay I've ever sewn/made completely with the exception of the boots and hair band. I got a lot of great responses from people who also loved Stephanie Brown.
The hardest thing for me to make were the gloves and by the end of the con, they were ripping at the seams (I'd made them too small). Next time I'd like to make a latex mask. The one I wore was from molded plastic (with a hidden elastic to keep it on my face) and it didn't fit my face correctly.

My Chibi Moon cosplay. Will redo both the brooch an the hair clips in resin someday, but I only had one day to make them so. Also excuse my squinting, I'd been inside the whole day and only went outside for some quick snapshots.

Your belt is sitting much too high (she wears it at the hips, not at empire-waist height) and you need to get some flat boots rather than heeled, but otherwise you've done a great job - well done. Even if you don't get around to changing the boots, just wearing the belt at the right height next time will tie everything together that much better.

I'm actively searching for new boots. I had been looking prior to the costume but having size 11s doesn't make it easy. I couldn't find any in thrift shops or in stores (these boots were ones I just had in my closet already). I might look in a halloween store when they're clearancing everything off (I know I've seen decent "superhero boots" in ones in the past). I'm a bit weary about buying shoes online because they tend to be too small. Ugh I wish there was a way to shrink your feet lol

Ughhhh I was so unhappy with my cosplay that year. I didn't have enough time or fabric to line my costume. This is literally the first cosplay I have sewn fully. I'm a much better prop maker than seamstress. The only thing I was proud of was the sword which was made from poster board, wood, epoxy resin, and wonderflex. I also got sick during that con and had to leave early. This was last years cosplay since this year I had to buy my costume.

Uhh.... The wig looks like you are just shy of having it well done though! All you need is some hair glue for those tips that are a bit unwraveled and a wee bit of smoothing out. It would look badass then IMO, not a bad job by any means. I think you did the hardest part right, which is the shape.

All the photos from the con were terrible, mostly because I really need to drop like 15-20 pounds, so I apologize for home-shot pre-con.

Made the costume specifically for the prop, the dildo-saber I made with a $7 plastic light saber and a double ended dildo I received for free when I worked at a sex toy warehouse. I was permitted to carry it around the con after 10PM and to 18+ panels as I was staff and it was fun.

I'm kind of embarrassed to post this, but, It's the first cosplay I've had any hand in making. I'm the Genderbent!Ryou. I was quite proud with how my ring came out, but, like an idiot, I didn't put any reinforcement into it and it fell apart on the first day.

Bought the blazer, replaced the buttons and added the white lining. I sewed an actual ribbon for the cosplay, but while working on the skirt to match it, I hadn't realized there was some sort of black gunk inside the iron that burned all over my fabric. This was a day or so before the convention so I didn't really have time to buy new fabric, my fault for not managing time better.

thank you, yeah this was post-meet up, lunch and a few other things so paint was ready to come off. I followed a stupid early tutorial for her shirt, and it was horribly wrong and too close to the con to start from scratch so I did what I could to fix it. Aside from the boots and the already stated missing wig which was overlooked: color is different, shirt underneath is wrong, jacket trim should be gold and not just white, the collar is too big, and missing leg bands.

it can be hard trying to cosplay a thirteen y/o kid. If you want to perfect it branch out at conventions and find friends with a higher skill level. They are usually willing to help out or teach you how to make things. The wig could also use some work, it can be pretty simple to learn how to manipulate wigs if you are interested in learning. Other than that, I would encourage you to find cosplays that you can easily pull of with a more natural look, finding characters suited to your body type can sometimes be a challenge, but they are always the best.

well, you might want to try a dark powder foundation on your hands and arms to look like a more realistic dirt, I would make the "sleeves" separately and sew them onto the pink shirt since the animation makes it look like thats what she did, keep the sleeves shorter than the shirt you have. You may also want to shorten your pants up a bit too. Look through /cgl/ for wig general threads and see if you can pick anything up from them. I don't actually play the game, but I have watched it be played several times, including the DLC, so I don't know that I could give you all of the suggestions that you may need from someone who actually plays the game.
