crying because I cant go to AX this year ;_; but whatev, I havent even started my Ota stuff yet.

I'm basically wearing whatever I can finish between

- Fixing Shura
- Fixing Radical Edward
- Making a new/alt Sakura Kasugano from Street Fighter
- Making Ryoko from Tenchi Muyo (which version depends on time/money)
- Making Eren Jaeger (I already own like half the stuff)
- I'll probably bring my Naoto Shirogane cosplay for the midnight Persona gathering to be w/e.

So, we'll see. I have a month and a half but I work pretty fast and everything I'm undertaking is pretty easy.

I'm regretting not booking my room earlier... but besides that I'm pumped for Home Made Kazoku.

Working on my stuff nooow. I'm gonna be wearing Captain Cook (Eiyuu Senki), Tiger (Star Driver), Koizumi (Dangan Ronpa 2) and Clover (VLR).

Clover is done already. Koizumi is basically finished, working on Cook now. I still need to buy my wigs and a few other things.

Does anyone here know who to get in contact with for the maid cafe? I know it's late, but I want to know, for sure, if there's still a chance I may participate. I sent in an application with no response since 2 weeks.

The water street tavern is a pretty small place and both nights we were there last year it was 95% people from Otakon drinking together, so I don't really know what you're talking about.

Plane tickets are booked and Sword Star is ready to go (apart from the mask, which >>6950959 is making), but I haven't actually paid for registration yet. I'm still undecided if I'll bother with plain clothes Takumi or Yuki, but I've at least begun preparations for both in case I do.
This is my first real convention in costume and I'm flying to a different country for it. I'm excited to see you all there!

Heyo! Maid cafe meido here. The otakorp email for maid cafe is maidcafe@otakorp.com, and our department head is elizabeth hawkins (ehawkins@otakorp.com). I obviously can't give you any *definite* answer, but I can tell you it's EXTREMELY unlikely they would accept another performer. Applications closed back in april, and performers were chosen in May, so the ship has kind of sailed on that

They didn't tell us how many applicants there were there were this year, though last year there were about 80 applicants, so I would think this year that number went up somewhat.

The process was 2 parts, the first being the online application, then they selected people to do the video interview. If you go to youtube and search 'otakon maid cafe application' you can actually see two people's videos, one who made it (the guy) and one who didn't (the girl). after that, they made their decisions like 2 weeks after we submitted interviews. I think we've got around 25 performers this year, about 50/50 performers from last year and new people

i'm actually pretty surprised to hear that about colossalcon, from what i've seen most other cafes have a similar, even not even more intensive, application process as otakon

there's not a lot of general qualifications, i personally have several years of waitressing experiences so I was sure to stress that, and while there is a dance we learn, it's very simple so i wouldn't say you need to be a dancer or anything. they are looking for people that can perform in the sense of playing their role as a miad(/butler). generally they want people who are happy and excited about being a part of maid cafe

From what it seems, most cons just have one maid troupe propose an event (mostly cafes, d'er). Joining the maid cafe in this cafe would mean being a part of the maid troupe. I don't know how rigorous the joining process could be.

See, I was lucky since at colossal since
-it was the first time they ran a maid cafe
-two troupes participated (Home Maid Sweets and The Maid of Hearts), mean it wasn't exclusively one group
-neither groups had men
This all being why they were alright with me helping out. Also, I do believe one of the maids from the maid of hearts was a maid last year at otakon.

Dancing? That's where I shine (at least I can, I love to para). Getting into the maid/butler biz, I know there'll be lots of cutesy dance numbers involved.

So what's with the uniform policy?

ah, i see! yes, we are our own troupe so to speak, but we "belong" for lack of a better word to otakon. the application process is not too rigorous, it's just about standing out and letting your personality and excitement shine :D it will definitely be good if you say you have experience with colossalcon :)

the main dance we learn is pretty simple, but there are oppurtunities for solo/small group performances of japanese culture related dances and songs.

our uniform is a specific dress from bodyline in navy, and black shoes, but other than that we're allowed to accessorize to fit the character that we choose as our "maidsona"

Feferi in the morning Friday for a shoot, Faustina again to hang with Asscreed bros, Speedball(now with better wig and binder) with my Justice on Saturday(very glad to have -- maybe this time I won't be mistaken perpetually for Booster Gold), and maybe ELIE Sunday to -finally- get a shoot done. Nobody really new, planning to have fun at this con. The most I'll actually go out of my way is if they need a shootrunner again for Marvel.

Just started on my Panty cosplay yesterday. I know it's overdone but her angel form is adorable and I don't want to be melting the entire con. This year it'll be skimpy cosplay > lolita for me.

Going as Naked Snake this year. My group is going to have 11 people in our room, but luckily the hotel is only a few blocks away from the con itself. I'm worried about safety though because I was almost attacked last year by a group of drunk slavs. Had to pull my knife out on them before they backed away. Also going to have to escort my other friends back to their hotel which is kinda near the bad part of town so I'm developing a safety plan for that.
