Staff anon here.

Can answer any questions about weapons policy and registration.

Are allowed to ask if the venue is changing for 2014? It's kind of important because I've got a friend coming from overseas and we want to plan everything as early as possible.

If not, can you at least say if it's staying in SoCal?

Haven't been to AX for a few years now. Do I need to worry about standing in line for hours on end? After the epic fail that was Fanime's registration, I really don't want to deal with something like that any time soon.

AX has more computers and people working registration than Fanime but then again it also has twice the attendance.

Wednesday sucks at the beginning but by the end of the pickup period should be okay. I'm going to assume onsite Thurs is going to be better than prereg Thurs but it'll die down as the day goes on for both.

Yes you're allowed. It'll (99%) likely be in SoCal next year. So don't worry about AX TOKYO or AX NEW YORK CITAY. I can the CEO when I see him on Wednesday. No I won't cuss him out/call him out/etc/etc. He's a cool guy who just happens to suck at his job and marriage.

>>6943994
Depends which line you're in. While it won't be Fanime: LINECON 2013, it'll be around 1 hour tops for at-con registrations and around 2 hours tops for preregistration. We will try to hurry up the process.

As a con-goer/staff for a few years I can say safely that the at-con registrations is ALWAYS shorter and fast.

how are the lines towards the later hours for pre-reg on day 0? Last year I waited a few hours before it opens but this year I wont be able to go until after work. So I dont expect to be there until 7-8ish with traffic. Is there a cutoff time that I should be there before they close at 9? Is there even a line at all at that point?

>> No.6944056

>>6944042
If you go late during day 0 you should be okay. It's just at the beginning when it sucks because everyone just lines up because there's nothing else to do at that time. AX has been pretty good about that.

>> No.6944061

>>6944042
I'm not entirely sure if the registration kiosks will be open that late day 0. Still try to go and get it (if you're a local) and if you can't you can always try the next day since AX is good at lines.

>> No.6944090

To clear up my own questions about badge-getting, what time do lines open, what time should I line up for them, and if we do in fact run into the scenario of a line full of pre-reggers and 1 or 2 bodies in the at-con line, couldn't I just slide over and get processed by the at-con line, or are they just not equipped to handle pre-reg stuff?
I can foresee a Larry David-esque moment developing from that situation.

>> No.6944138

But who cares about Danny Choo? He's just a rich kid who has the connections to do what he does. If I had the money, I'd make my "original character, do not steal" a mascot too. Pays having Jimmy Choo as your dad.

>> No.6944221

>>6944090
What will probably happen is that they utilize the at-con reg section to help out the pre-reg pickup section and not let you skip ahead unless you want to buy a whole new badge.

If you get there early it processes decently fast. Officially reg opens at 8am. People will be there before then. Took me an hour the last time I was there and I got there maybe 30 mins before opening but it'll vary per year.

Huh, they allow refunds (within 30 days of purchase) and name changes. That's actually pretty nice of them and I don't think that was available a year or two ago. I knew they did the transfer to the next year thing but not name changes and cancellations.

I need to iron out my shirt for Reiko and my mask (since Ill be doubling as both Reiko and Nyanko-sensei in her form) I wish I had a little more time to buy some yellow fabric for the Yellow school tie, but I dont think people will notice. If I have the mask on, Im Nyanko-senei, if not I am Reiko. Just need to practice some posing and stuff and I think i am good.

Im really excited, I can barely sleep with my Insomnia meds

Also got my wings for Sakuya (SAO) completed and mounted. They light up and will only be around for night cosplay wandering and the gathering on day 2 at noon and at 2 at the booth. Altho I plan on leaving early from the aniplex gathering so i can make the Natsume gathering ion time.

People are all over his nuts because he plays off his "self-made" narrative as something anyone can do with enough work and dedication. >He doesn't help the anime industry at all
How is he suppossed to 'help' the industry in your eyes? He already promotes anime, trading card games, and tons of merch and has helped popularize anime and otaku-related things around the world. The fact that he's made a lot of money doing so doesn't make him a bad guy nor does being the son of Jimmy Choo

>>6944480
I kinda like Mirai-chan. Why so many Choo haters? Hating on success gets you nowhere. If you know of him engaging in unethical or illegal business practices then let me know. Other than that it just sounds like a hater.

>> No.6944953

>>6944897
Pretty much agree with this, He doesn't act like a douche, hes a really cool guy. I dont see where the hate comes from. As said before he helps the industry the best he can by not only promoting anime but japan culture in general. And saying that people are "all over his dick" is just going to extremes. While he did have lucky breaks that most don't have (as majority of anyone with any type of sucess has had), he still didn't get to his success by sitting on his ass..he put in some hard work on his end too.

Repost from tumblr:
Alright since it my department that’s doing this I might as well inform attendees right now since Day Zero is 2 days :T

There will be mandatory bag checks at every main entrance of Anime Expo this year.

We are doing this for safety guys. Because of the Boston Marathon Bombing, Anime Expo has buffed up their security and are doing bag checks. It’s not that we think any of you are terrorists; it’s just we want everyone to be safe and happy during con. We do not want ANYONE getting hurt at Anime Expo and if someone does want to hurt people, we want to make sure we nip them in the butt >:c

You’ll be seeing Access Control/the red vests doing the bag checks. Please do not hassle them or get mad at them for doing this. Please understand them and let them do their job. If any of you ladies have some bathroom privates, either put it in a pocket or have one of our lady staffers check the bag for you (heck find me if my squad is doing bag checks)

Anime Expo is a place for people who love Japanese culture, animation, games, or whatevers to have fun with other people with similar interests. No one should be hurt at such a happy place for so many people <3

feel good measures
cursory checks are fast but likely to miss things
thorough checks are going to slow everyone coming in so they probably won't do that

especially if they aren't checking people too because you can hide stuff on-person as well unless they're doing body checks which it sounds like they aren't.

This place has a bajillion cosplayers coming in too. You gonna check everyone's props? All that 3DMG that's inbound? What if a guy has a big belly prosthetic?Voluminous robes? Padding to make them look bigger? You can hide all sorts of things in any of those.

It's going to be a total waste of time unless they hired out the TSA to borrow their bomb detection and x-ray machines.

I mean, if all they were doing was checking for bombs and knives, I'd be okay with it but I can't shake the feeling they'll confiscate an unopened bottle of liquor I'd be saving for a party later on that I can't leave in the room/car/whoops came by bus/can't leave in bag check cause bag check is behind the people checking the contents for bombs.

You could show up early to beat traffic if you're driving, for the prereg line (if you did that) or, just wander the con grounds for photo opportunities if you're cosplaying. A lot of people like to just chill inside and outside of the convention center to chat and mingle with people. Other than that, there really isn't a reason to come earlier. Y-You could also come try to find the anon staff. It's not like we like talking to other people from 4chan or anything!

Come by the booth and talk to one of our veterans or the manager, they should be able to accommodate you for the event. If it's some fuckhuge prop, then we might have to escort you there (just to be safe, y know? Don't wanna crack open someones face when you turn around or something) and back once your event is done.

But if it fits the Weapons Policy then all we'd do is peacebond it in a discrete location (or just acknowledge that your prop is allowed and not bond it since you're there for an event) and that'd be the end of it.

Mind telling me what kind of props you're going to be bringing? Just for a heads up to look out for you folks.

You could cut the awkwardness with a plastic spoon. Saw her a few times later that day. She would wave to me and her boyfriend looked like he had cried his eyes out. ;_;

We're having three booths this year. One near the registration area near the main entrance (South Hall), one in West Hall, and one inside of the Exhibition/Dealer's Hall (which is the one you should head to, for conveniences sake). We're open at 6 AM I believe until 6 PM or so.

From the sounds of it, it fits the height requirement (less than 7 feet) and as long as the string isn't super tense and has slack we should be able to peacebond it just fine. The arrows are fine too. What is it made out of? If it's metal then I'm afraid it's a no-go since we're being especially anal about that this year for some weird reason. Though we may or may not let it slide if it's just a hassle to have you go back and get another prop. We'll try to work something out with you~

>Lucky Charms guy
He goes to every SPJA convention and gropes/tries to finger girls during events. He's since gotten a lifetime ban every time but he registers with a different name every year so we're on the lookout for him.

Can you describe her better? We had a few "bigger" girls on the team but none that were older than late 20s. She may have been just some crazy woman or in another department.

Definitely try some ramen while you're there; Daikokuya seems to be the favourite, though there's also Orochan which was featured in Man v. Food (spicy ramen challenge).

If you want to be a little more adventurous, there's a really great shabu shabu place in the village - the old guy that runs it looks like an octopus and answers to Mr. Yoshi. While you're waiting you can do some shopping in any of the nearby stores - they have really cheap cutesy stuff (Rilakkuma, Totoro, Nintendo, etc.) and a bunch of random Japanese appliances like bento boxes and little panda shaped sandwich cutters - things like that.

Then there's Marukai and Nijiya, both Japanese super markets - we usually pick up some instant ramen and little cakes and things for the con. Around the same area there's a place where you can buy ice cream mochi for a buck, and a little cafe (Mitsuru is the name I think) where you can get dango, takoyaki, and watch them make imagawayaki from the window - really cute.

In the mall there's a karaoke bar and some more little shops, though I think it was bought by some Korean company and is currently more than half empty. Near the plaza there's the Curry House and Kinokuniya, which is a bookstore - lots of imported manga and fashion magazines, along with regular books both in English and Japanese, plus a little merchandise section.

Some restaurants have cosplay discounts if you show up in costume, so there's that too.

...Sorry that was a bit wordy, I always stop by on the way to Chinatown.

It was typical 'fire hazard' and 'stay on the orange line' phrases from the staff during pre-registration. The cool weather was much more than tolerable, and for once, the obnoxious attempts of others to rile up people to sing theme songs and such didn't work... that well. Maneuvering through the herd was torture though. The hours passed by quickly at first as people would drink and eat cold things while sitting, or laying down - until the staff did the standard "Everybody get up now to stand around for over a hour to hurt your feet. Now that was a real fire hazard.

Yeah they're usually a bit lax when there are not too many people on..but for this they have to be strict since everyone is traveling for AX/other holiday events and the bus is pretty packed..I got VERY lucky by convincing the dude to let on a small sword as an extra luggage peice.

That I'm not sure..I think with that it would have to be either or for luggage because the both sound too big too be carry on. Your best bet is to look at the policy I linked and measure/weigh it the best you can yourself to make it meet requirements.

also, as a side note, if you do have a metrolink ticket, i think that also entitles you to a free connecting rail/bus, and there's a bunch of buses and the red line that'll take you to where the con's hotels will be, which most will be between pershing square, 7th st metro center, and McAurthur park, so find out where you're staying and plan accordingly, metro.net/trip planner would be the place to start...

Quick question: the LACC parking garage doesn't allow overnight parking, what time do you have to get your car out of there by?
