What are seagulls thoughts on Alice and the Pirates? Favorite piece by them? I find them to be a very hit or miss brand when it comes to execution. Either they'll come out with precious works of art that I would literally wage war over, like pic related, or hideous abominations that make me want to gag like that latest mermaid print. I always love their prints, though, it's ridiculously rare for me not to. I'll hate the cut of the dress, colorways it's available in or little accents, but never the main illustration. Even with the mermaid print, if they changed the colors and used a better dress design I would love it.

>> No.6933358

I love a lot of what they do, but can't wear some of my favourite designs. They have a habit of putting a seam and frill across the bust, which just looks awful on anyone with a larger chest.
The Scent of Rapunzel jsk sticks out in my mind for this. Love that dress but can never wear it.

>They have a habit of putting a seam and frill across the bust
This is precisely why I had to sell my first lolita dress. I bought it before my tits were fully developed, the next year it didn't fit because I grew a cup size. That was AP, though, not AatP.

>> No.6934345

>>6933345
I like that AatP at least tries experimenting with new cuts and styles. If you compare them to other brands they look more hit or miss but that's because they don't really resort to the ~5 "trademark cuts" every brand has for their new releases(Moitie is especially guilty of this lately). That means they will fail more often, but you get more diversity in exchange. I like that.

>>6933358
Funny you say that, because I find many AatP items flattering on me despite having DDs. Maybe we're just looking at different designs from them.

>> No.6934356

I'm a sweet lolita, but my dream dress was an AATP print, Black Cat, Witch and the Apple Tree. It's beautiful in person but jesus, it looks hideous on me.

>> No.6934386

Anon are you me? I feel exactly the same way about Baby and AatP. They're hit or miss. Both with design and quality. AatP is more hit than Baby, but still then, some of their stuff is beautiful while other stuff looks like I could get it on Bodyline (design-wise, not necessarily quality wise) (lookin' at u Polka Dot a la Mode JSK). I don't own any of their pieces, but I've also heard that some of them are just straight up wonky. I'm surprised so many people love Baby so much, but, hey, different strokes for different folks, I guess.

>> No.6934416

All but five of my top fifteen are AatP dresses, the vast majority of them being from 2010. That was a really good year for them.

>> No.6934438

Like 2-3 years ago everyone was shitting their pants over aatp and I believe it was voted most popular brand on egl in a end of year poll. But lately their prints are so manky.

>> No.6934450

For me it isn't the prints, it's the damn bodices! They're cut absolutely horribly to me.

>> No.6934460

>AatP is more hit than Baby

Really? That's disappointing. I've been wanting some things from them for a long time. I usually have trouble with Baby's products (the bodice being cut at odd places). Are the boobs and waist lines typically higher than necessary with Aatp's stuff too? It's sometimes hard for me to tell because they tend to make corset styled things.

>> No.6934493

Baby/AatP is a miss for me ALL THE TIME. If I like the print, then the cuts are unflattering as fuck, and if the cuts are good, the print isn't to my liking. I can never win with them. Midsummer Night's Dream was a dream print of mine but I ended up selling both versions of the dress because it looked awful on me. Too bad that skirts look awful on me too.

>> No.6934542

My favorite brand, for a couple of reasons.

I fit basically all of their designs and cuts, and I have yet to get something of theirs that is unflattering, but I am shaped roughly like your average Japanese girl (only taller) so that may have something to do with it. Speaking of height, that's another reason I love them--longer dresses! Even their shorter dresses are often long enough for me.

Also, I like their particular blend of sweet, classic, and gothic. The designer(s) for AatP are also creative, so you end up with lots more interesting designs.

Obviously, I don't automatically adore everything they release, but I'm much more likely to fall in love with something from AatP than from IW or BABY.

Just curious, but what's the average Japanese girl shaped like?

>> No.6934570

>>6934566
Well, based on the Lolita designs and the other Japanese clothing I have, I would say slim with a small to medium bust and slim to medium hips. Hips don't matter much in Lolita, though.

>> No.6934650

>>6934560
I agree that there should be more Shakespeare related prints. I thought that AatP would do more after Midsummer and that Romeo+Juliet one.
Skirts in general make me look like a giant rectangle so I don't like the way they look whereas dresses make it look like I have a waist.

>> No.6934662

>>6934566
Lol, what I meant was they're pretty large for what I assume the average Japanese girl is, speaking as a slightly taller than average but regular weight asian girl. If they're large on me, can't imagine what they'd be like on bitty japanese girls. I liked Pirates because their sizes were smaller, but they're getting bigger too.

>> No.6934940

>>6934662
Just how tall are you? The lolita brands tend to make a Japanese size 9 which is around 34" bust and 27" waist. The VR rerelease JSK was a little bigger than the original but I have not noticed a trend of AatP getting larger.

I think AatP dropped in popularity because the prints just haven't been stellar. In 2010 they had a bunch of hits (Sleeping Beauty, Masquerade Theater, Midsummer's Night Dream, Queen's Coach) and all hot off the heels of Vampire Requiem. With the exception of Vampire Prelude they have not released anything I MUST reserve since then.

>> No.6934955

>>6934940
The only one since then that I wish I had gotten on reserve is the Treasure Hunt in the Mystic Islands Alvida JSK. I have to agree though, they've definitely tapered off. They used to have such elegant bodices and really distinctive print styles, like you could look at a thumbnail and recognize the print immediately.

Their recent releases have been killing me a bit. I got so excited when I saw previews for the Mermaid in the Jewelry Box print but the way the print was arranged just didn't appeal. Clockwork Aristo Kitty was cute, but the bodice designs were crap, and same goes with their latest print. It's just so disappointing.

>> No.6934957

>>6934955
>but the way the print was arranged just didn't appeal
Ugh. Tell me about it. I reserved Aristo Kitty because I couldn't help myself. I have a soft spot for fluffy black cats and always have. I'm pretty flat chested, so I don't anticipate the bodice being a problem either. But it would suck for anyone above a B cup.

>> No.6934960

>>6934957
Mermaid in the Jewelry Box broke my heart so bad. I was waiting for AatP to do something pirate-y again and we got... that print.

Haha I was tempted with Aristo Kitty because harlequin, clocks, and cute kitties is just so cute. I was broke though, and the JSK wasn't impressive enough to make me dig into my reserves. Might pick up the SK on comm_sales or something someday though.

I'm tacky and not afraid to admit it, so when I saw harlequin diamonds AND polka dots with cats on top, I was done for. I have no idea how to coordinate it yet. Absolutely none.

And I was insanely disappointed by the poison apple print. I love all things apple-related (I own four pieces from the Meta corduroy apple series, ffs), but the proportions are just all wrong between the bookshelves and the border print. It looks ridiculous.

I really liked the Wicked Princess dress, yeah. I very seriously considered reserving it, but waited too long, and it's now sold out. It's for the best, I suppose. I rarely get to go too over the top with my coordinates and that dress absolutely _demands_ an over the top coordinate.

Are you me? My inner mallgoth has a thing for H. Naoto cutsews and the like despite knowing I'll look like a Hot Topic reject from 2000. HMHM has a harlequin skirt out that I want so bad but can't afford because I bought a dream dress.

Maybe co-ord it with a fuckton of steampunk jewelry from Etsy. I mean, if you're going to be tacky, go all out.

The poison apple print is kinda tempting for me because I love book prints. But the texturing or whatever on it was just... off looking to me, and again I didn't like the JSK designs.

Hilarious. I may be. I just bought a ten year old gawthicgawth h.naoto BLOOD dress on auction, as well as a BPN corset/vest/overdress thing and GRAMM pants. I'm a real sucker for h.naoto stuff, especially the deconstructed pieces with heaps of sheer layers and venise lace. It confuses people, though. I do admit.

I wore a casualish GRAMM and frill coordinate to a convention a while back because I didn't feel like coping with petticoats in the heat. I had another lolita try to sell me on TaoBao brands and educate me on the ways of lolita ... until I told her "Dude, I'm so-and-so from Facebook. I usually have glasses? I'm on your friends list." We had a little laugh about it later and she apparently felt really embarrassed.

Still waiting on a few other pieces to end, but they're going for another four or five days yet. And the pants? Skirt? I'm not sure which it is, but I can't wait to pair it with some patterned leggings and a BPN-style chiffon buttcape for peek-a-boo fun times.

She was really nice about it! And we're actually pretty good friends now as a result of that. I just kind of had to hold back the laughter while she was offering to email me links, because it's stuff that I generally post for newcomers to our community.

I mean, I _know_ a lot of h.naoto stuff looks awful from a lolita perspective, but the only lolita-esque item I had on was the bolero. The dress was nearly ankle length and has those crazy hand-glove-pocket things that GRAMM so often uses.

And to contribute as well, another of my own dream dresses.

I'm honestly amazed that h.naoto is whitelisted. Most of it is no more loliable than something you'd find at F21. It is odd that she saw an ensemble like that and thought you were going for lolita and just really missing the mark though.

To be fair, there were several booths at that convention selling GLP and Punk Rave "lolita" items that look similar to h.naoto items in terms of fabric choice, so I can see why she assumed that I was going for SUPERGAWTHICLOLITA! with what I had on. It happens. I wasn't particularly offended, just amused.

And I know. The Kuranosuke JSK is so hard to find, though. I can't remember the last time I saw it come up for sale!

I got my first AatP LPs this year. I always seemed to miss Baby's LPs in the past, so I grabbed the Noble Lady and Female Pirates packs. I still can't decide if I was disappointed or not.

The packs I ordered were meant to have three dresses total according to the LP listings. I got two JSKs and ... an apron. That matched nothing else in the pack. From stock photos, it looks like said apron is part of a set with an OP, but that OP was nowhere to be seen, so I still wonder if it went missing.

The coat I got is pretty awesome, though. Incredibly warm. And one of the JSKs was the velvet version of the operetta JSK with the round lapels in front. Really pretty. Reeeally lush. Nice hair accessories as well.

I also got the birdcage purse (pic related), which was okay with me, since I had the matching JSK already, and a flocked tea-length skirt from a series I can't identify. The accessories were weird, though. A printed neckbow that, again, matched nothing, a ribbon brooch pin and a toy soldier necklace. Bit weird, but that's an LP for ya.

It was sheer luck. I've been in love with Versailles since 2009, way before I started buying lolita. The 2009 jsk was my first big brand item and a local girl sold it to me, she was super kind because I had no feedback of any sort and we had only met once before.

The 2010 one took me more than a year to track down, and I got hit with customs pretty badly (60% of the total value) but I managed to afford it. There are a couple of a striped salopettes. The one that has a full bodice and not the "overall" front was called the Crowne Stripe Salopette JSK and came out in silver x black, black x black and pink x black, but it was unrelated to the collaboration. It was a sort of jacquard material and was quite cute. I actually own it in silver x black, because it's similar to the Kuranosuke JSK in design. Pic related.

There was also the Lace Flocky Salopette, which had a bubblehem and came in the same colourways.

And finally, the Crown Stripe Salopette Pants, which came with a really neat criss-cross-y side bit.

This is one of my biggest disappointments... I watched it on the site in my size sit there for like six months, figure it'd be there forever... then when I finally was ready... sold out. Never seen anyone really wear it or go for sale. ;_;
If anyone does have it, please show the world! It's okay if I can't have it, I just want to live vicariously through those that do.

I have 4 dresses now from them and am happy with all of them. But most certainly there were releases that came out that just were not to my style. I think all in all though it's for the best for my wallet.

I own the babydoll Midsummer jsk in ivory, I snagged it for $270 from Mbok. I'm not an AatP/BtSSB fan but this one was special.

I still haven't worn it. I'm not sure how, I'm a plain jane coord person and I feel like I wouldn't live up to the hype.

Fuck the hype. That series is beautiful enough on its own. Just add a bolero or blouse, some tights and cute shoes and rock it!

I'm new to lolita but I really love aatp This is my collection of their stuff so far and majority of was bought while in Japan in the second hand shops. I didn't even mean to buy this much aatp, just their pieces spoke to me the most. I find a lot of their dresses are quite flattering on my bodyshape and I really like the gothic themes while still being colourful.

What is the red and blue striped dress called?

Favorite prints:
Dance of the Black Cats, Midsummer night's dream, Twilight Circus, Kuranosuke JSK, End of Immortal Eden

I prefer BtSSB's fairytale prints though, She is Sleeping applique, Wizard of Oz, Scent of Rapunzel, Mother Goose (name?). And their Pocket Embroidery and Princess JSK's are awesome, they do well with non-print princess dresses.

I hate the Beauty and the Rose Promise fabric though, I don't like how shiny it is, I feel like it cheapens the dress.

As an owner of that dress and other AatP satin items, I don't get how many people says this. The fabric is super soft and luscious, and gives a very elegant feel to the dress. It's beautiful in person.

It's good for some colors and designs but there are times and personal preferences where you would prefer a different fabric

Hey anon, question from someone else with the bustier-style JSK- what's your bust? Mine feels very tight on me sometimes even though I only have an 84-85 cm bust, I just wonder if this series was smaller than normal...

>> No.6946829

It reflects horribly in photos from what I've seen and looks very cheap (even if it feels nice), it would be a dream print of mine too if not for that fabric.

Just got this a couple days ago. I ordered it back in March, and I'd kind of forgotten about it until it arrived. It looks a lot better in person than in stock photos (Aatp takes the worst stock photos ever).

My dream dress is Dance of the Black Cats. Any colourway. It sparked my love for AatP, even though half their designs will look awful on me.

Sage because offtopic.

I think Baby/AATP and IW tie for worst stock photos. They always look totally off, and actually on that topic, I very often find that I don't fall in love with a Baby/AATP piece until I see worn photos of it... happened with Rose has a Secret Scent, among others.

>> No.6947022

Baby/AatP almost always have the same stupid petticoat that makes the skirts look horrible. Kills me a bit every time.

My bust is a 28DD, so around your size. AatP is very accomodating for small ribcages and doesn't give as much boobloaf as other brands do.

>> No.6948198

>>6947005
While I think Meta's stock photos are worse (shit, they don't iron or steam ANYTHING), IW and AatP's items do almost always look better in person. Especially when the photographer got lazy and the detail photos are all blurry. haha

>> No.6949132

>>6948198
Yeah, every AatP dress I've ever seen in person is so much lovelier than in the stock photos. I gave shit none about MT until I saw it in person, now it's one of my dream dresses.

You could always temporarily get a Chess Story jsk until you get this one. Same stripes and similar design.

This was my exact thought when I saw that release, heh.
