Hey, i was wondering if a few kind anons can help me out with a hair question. My hair is faded pink from an old dye job and I was wondering what Black hair dye would work best to get the rest of the pink put ? I have about 2 inches of black roots already, so I just want to get it done and over with.

Any suggestions? Thank you very much in advance.

>> No.6929690

>>6929505
Fill your hair by using an orangey color first, like a copper red. Then dry your hair and use a blue black. You can't neutralize pink since it doesn't have an opposite, and bleaching it just makes it brighter. But if you add a warm color and then a cool black, that should take care of it. Might take a few applications of black over time due to fading depending how porous your hair is.

I remember coming onto a hair thread months ago, saying I'd be back when I wasn't an obese whale. Well, I've lost 40 pounds so far and have another 30 to go. My inspiration is getting the haircut pictured, but now I'm dejected realizing it may look like shit on me. I have a threehead and although my face isn't nearly as round; I'm afraid that with my smallish forehead and face shape won't work with bangs. I'm sick of having "bangs" down past my chin and can't find anything to do with them.

Any suggestions on what to do with long bangs and your thoughts on bangs with smaller foreheads?

>> No.6929771

>>6929505
If you go black, keep in mind that it's not going to be easy to go back without possibly drying your hair out, and if you have it for long term, your roots will probably grow in a bit darker.

I had black hair for 4 years, and even my hair got dryer changing it despite the fact that my hair is thick, healthy, and takes colour well. I ended up just chopping it off.

Thank you! It feels great not being an XL anymore. Sorry for the odd crop, this is the only picture I have. The bangs are fake and I had to place them pretty far back, which looked awful.

I really don't think super short bangs would look good on me, especially with the rounder face shape. I'm hoping it'll thin out a (lot) more when I drop the last 30. As for side swept, I might have to do that then.

This!
I hated having long bangs too. The only reason I grew my kiddie bangs out was because my mom and my hairdresser both pressured my into it and said, "Do you want to look like a little girl forever?" And I was like "OBVIOUSLY YES??" but they didn't care and I didn't really have the stones to argue with them. I have a really long face though and I looked like Severus Snape (it was one of my nicknames too) all through middle school and part of high school, it was awful. When I got into high school I got some confidence back and I said "screw you guys, I'm covering this giant forehead" and you know what? I loved it and never regretted it for a second (even though some girls tried to make fun of it because it was a more "childish" cut).
That's really the only input I can give without seeing your face, though!

Oh lol, I posted about a second too late. I also forgot to congratulate you on your weight loss too, keep it up!
The sideswept looks good on you here though, like really good! It's a more mature-looking cut and it doesn't make your face look round at all. You've got a really feminine jawline too, I think you could rock just about anything you want as long as your bangs aren't so short they don't cover at least part of your eyebrows (but that never looks good on anybody, in my opinion.) That's not to say there's anything wrong with your eyesbrows though lol.

I get the same thing from my mom, "You have such pretty long hair, why cut it? You'll look 12!"
Embrace your forehead, they can sport blunt bangs beautifully and those girls be trippin', kiddie bangs are cute as fuck.

My eyebrows actually are a big reason why I want bangs though. I've shaped my eyebrows differently since the picture, but one is arched extremely high and spreads out far. I can't seem to shape it and I'm always afraid people will notice when I'm walking around.

Thank you by the way! I might just get the shorter cut and side bangs with the crown trick.

>> No.6929857

Bluh, moms and their attempts to inflict stale fashion choices upon us.
I thought so too! I loved my kiddie bangs, ahahaha. And after she realized how much happier I was with the change in cut, she let it go. The only reason I don't still have the cut is because I had it for 8 years and I had a lot of damage on the ends of my hair from heat-styling and excessive dying. I've got what's pretty much a pixie cut now but I've still got side-swept bangs with it (also love it, and how low maintenance it is compared to having long hair lol).
Like I said, I really think you could rock just about anything, be careful with side bangs though because if they get cut too short it might end up looking more like a botched hime-cut which rarely looks good on anybody, even Japanese girls.

Beforehand build up your hair proteins. There's this really strong one they sell at Sallys called Aphogee. Also, of course stay away from heat and wash hair with cold water as well as use hair moisturizers after you bleach. Typically if you don't get it right on the first try, you'd want to wait at least two weeks to get your hair healthy again. Good luck anon. I bleached and even dyed my hair about five times before i got the right color. I recommened kits like manic panics flash bleach kit if you're diy-ing and a blue-based bleach for the roots like the sallys brand bleach. If you're worried, pull out a strand of hair. If it stretches, you need more protein and if it breaks too early or not at the root, your hair needs moisture. If none of these, holla. I just want to reiterate the protein treatment beforehand as bleach strips your proteins basically. It took me about two months and several re dye and re bleaches. Now its just the roots every one and a half months.

This is okay advice on the whole but two weeks isn't long enough to wait if you want to do a whole head bleach, you need to wait at least four. This isn't just to let your hair recover, the more bleach you're exposed to over a short period of time the more likely it is you'll develop an allergy to it.

You don't need to do a full bleach every time you want to lighten it, either. The only people who need to do that have naturally jet black hair. If like most people, you get to a lemon-y yellow after one bleach, then you should use bleach baths to lighten it, here is a tutorial: hairdyeforum.com/index.php?topic=995.0

Coconut oil is a godsend for bleaching hair. You should use as a mask type thing for a few weeks before bleaching if you can. Then when you actually go to bleach your hair absolutely saturate your hair in it and leave it on whilst you bleach. I have horrible frizzy course hair but doing this leaves it feeling silky after bleaching.

Luckily my roots have been growing in pretty healthy and my hair has been getting more oily than usual. At least that's better than dealing with dry hair.

I'm the person trying to go from copper to ash brown. Blonde dye has very little bleaching properties, the most it'll do will be to lighten your hair by one or two shades. And if you have naturally dark hair like mine bleach will end up unearthing the red pigments in your hair.

By the way, if you do happen to bleach your hair, either start from the tips and then do the roots, which will be hard, or use a stronger bleach for the body of the hair compared to the roots. The heat from your scalp will cause the bleach to work faster, so unless you plan ahead for it, your roots will end up being lighter than the rest of your hair.

This anon is right. Hair dye is translucent at best, not opaque. You can't go over a dark base with a light colour and end up with a lighter colour, it's impossible. White eyebrows will always look creepy odd with white hair as eyebrows are naturally about 4 or 5 shades darker than your haircolour. If you'd got white hair, you'll want a grey eyebrow. Try a pencil first, or even the a modified version of the paint technique to make it look more natural.

I've got kinda charcoal eyebrows, and I find if I trim them down (comb the hairs up and trim the lengths to the eyebrow shape, and comb them down and trim them to the undershape, this thins them out and makes them look neater) they look a lighter colour, a medium to light grey. Might help?

>I really can't comprehend that sort of stupidity from a professional hairdresser.
It may be relevant to the story for you to know that I grew up in a rural Texas town with about 2,000 people in it...so my hairdresser could've been called a "professional" in the most literal sense of the term (cut hair get money), but beyond that she obviously wouldn't be able to measure up to the expectations that people have for a professional hairdresser. I mean obviously she was certified and everything (we went to that salon exclusively because they were the only certified hairdressers in town and weren't operating out of a house), but when you live in a place like that all of the women look the same anyway and there is literally no tolerance for any kind of alternative fashion without serious social reprocussions. And yes, even just having straight bangs falls under that "alternative fashion" category because you're 100% right, everybody had "the bang" and many of them had it through high school because the bang + medium/long hair was easy to pull up into a ponytail and athletics were a HUGE part of our school (again, rural Texas yeehaw).
I'm sorry you know my pain, anon. My face is more angular than oval-shaped, but it's definitely long so I need the hair to frame it. I don't even think straight bangs look childish anyway, unless you pair them with pigtails or something.

My hair looks light ash brown in some lighting but in the sunlight I can see orange in it.

I dye it with an ash blonde dye and it looks amazing for about a week than it fades back.

I just want super ash light brown hair.

... That is used in salon 'bleaching.' The formula that they put on your hair is basically ammonia and peroxide. It's called bleaching because you are making hair lighter.

I was wondering if anyone could answer come questions on extensions for me...

I was looking at foxylocks to buy them...Are they any good? Would love to hear some personal thoughts on them.

Would 1 pack of the 215g or 165g be enough for full long hair or would I still need to buy 2? My hair is about mid neck/kind of shoulder length if that helps

I have the tangliest hair in the whole world. It's long, very straight, and very dense with each hair being absurdly fine. My friend brushed it and complained that it 'formed natural webs'. My haircolor is pissing me off. I am asian.

I bleached my hair then dyed it purple for a few months. Then once the color washed out I left it blonde for a little while. Recently I dyed my hair medium brown to look natural but it left my hair gummy feeling. When my hair is wet it tangles and feels really stringy/gummy/breaks easily. During the day the ends get tangled and impossible to brush. (looks like the frizzed out ends of a wig.)

What should I do?? The color faded and now it looks like shit.... Anyway to fix it? Or am I going to have to shave my hair.

Contact dermatitis is incurable, yes. And no, there is no other way for you to lighten your hair. People will recommend lemon juice and the sun,but at best you'll get light highlights. Honey is a no-no that people will recommend as well, honey lightens hair with the exact same mechanism as bleach. So no, you cannot lighten your hair in any significant sense anymore, sorry anon.

Good hairdressers make sure you can flip your hair back over the shaved part to look normal again. Aside this, the only way to get it back to the same length is to shave it or grow it out (Duh) You should have kind of thought of this before you got such a drastic and irreversible haircut.

Get two Revlon boxes of Colorsilk blue-black. If you have thick/long hair get 3/4. Dye some of your hair with a box, clip to make sure that all the dye gets to where you need it (Whereas if you don't you might think you might have covered a spot when in all truth you haven't) and do everything necessary. Sometimes you need a second dye to finish the job though. This is where the second dye comes in. The other anon's methods will ruin your hair/fry it more. Do NOT use Feria colors. They will not stick and will just burn your hair a murky brown mix. Speaking from experience. Ironically the cheaper the dye the least damage/inconsistency it will have, at least when it comes to covering unnatural hair colors. The more expensive colors don't stick to my hair and damage it more. Obviously remember to deep condition though.

You could try using hair masques or use ethnic hair products. I don't see those women with damaged hair. If you need to re-color it I would suggest going to a stylist. Anything else carries the risk of making it worse. I think you could probably help your situation by using color stripper but again, I would ask a stylist before that was an option.

Hi there we have similar hair.

Do you use any kind of detangler? You could try looking up reviews for detanglers from "naturally curly" girls, although be forewarned that some detanglers might be too thick for your straight hair and could weigh it down.

DIY/cheap methods: Aloe vera gel can make a nice, light detangler for straighter hair girls. Imo it works best as a leave in after you shower but experiment to find out what's right. Some people seem to have good luck mixing it with a little bit of glycerin. Olive oil is another good one. I do not recommend coconut oil. My hair was detangled alright. It was a detangled greasy mess.

Right now I'm doing a prewash with honey and olive oil and water before I take a shower, and that seems to have helped with my tangles for some reason, but I really wouldn't recommend it as it has peroxide and could lighten your hair, unless you're looking for that. But I've heard microwaving the honey before use can 'kill' the peroxide.

Leave your shampoo and conditioner in for a few minutes each (five is preferable) before rinsing it out and make sure you really massage it in. This has really helped with my tangles. I also just got a satin bonnet to wear at night that I'm hoping will further reduce my tangles and help maintain my style for an extra day.

For brushing, start from the bottom and work your way up in sections, like the other anon said. Starting from the top will only push your tangles together.

If problems persist at your ends, try rinsing them in baking soda + vinegar rinse (apple cider vinegar if you have dark hair, white vinegar if you have light hair even though it smells like shit. Apple cider vinegar can stain blonde hair slightly red) every other week or once a month. This will help clear any build up that causes your hair to tangle there. My ends are a bitch but they're getting better with persistence.

Sorry to give you a bunch of solutions to one problem. I hope something here helps you out.

Don't put any chemicals in it again, seriously. I over processed my hair to the gummy stage too and more coloring is only going to make it worse. It's fried right now and you need to chop some of it, there's really no way around that and no amount of "repair" products are going to fix it.

You need a good cut and protein treatments after. I had fantastic results with Nexxus Emergencee. You can get it at Walgreens for about $12, it brought back some of my curls and made my hair stop snapping off and tangling every time I touched it. It's not going to solve all your problems, but it will help if you use it properly.

If you absolutely have to dye it, go to a professional that specializes in color correction or has experience with severely damaged hair. Don't let just any stylist try anything. You'll probably need a porosity equalizer, toning, and a lot of other things done to make sure any color comes out right and even then there's not really any guarantee it'll be perfect but you NEED someone who knows exactly what they're doing. After that, do not fucking touch it for a while even if you really really get the itch to. No heat, no dyes, minimum washing and only use sulfate free stuff. Weekly deep conditioning would also probably be a good idea.

But seriously, go get it cut! It'll make a world of difference.
