I generally lurk and I'm not a lolita, but if I were to start with something like that, or even design my own dress, I wouldn't really get offended by the message. She ended with more compliments than criticism, and she wasn't being *too* mean.

She should seriously take it with a grain of salt. I agree with construction looking decent, but I definitely feel she could have chosen better colors.

wow, yeah talk about being butthurt about someone who was just trying to help (even though, a solid color still wouldn't have saved that shit, she should have stuck with the balloon print throughout the entire dress and removed that god awful ruffle details on the sleeves/skirt/bodice). Would have given it kind of an otome feel even.

Wow, that crit isn't even mean. They even complimented the girl's sewing skills twice (and I agree the construction does look very good for a first attempt). I understand it's hard to take any sort of criticism when you worked hard making something, but it's her first dress. The first time is always the hardest, and most people have to make several attempts before they get it right and make something they're truly proud of wearing. It's called practice. I'd rather hear some honest crit about my first project so I could improve, than make a whole wardrobe of ugly dresses and suddenly realize they all looked like shit.

Has anyone thought that maybe the hate that she got is not related to ANY of the constructive criticism? With regards to the OP dress, it's just the colour choice I see as the problem. My dress was called clownish, garish, childish, I was told it was not elegant, and that I “missed the mark.” They did not like the colors I chose, nor the hot air balloon print that I used as my inspiration for the dress. In the whole of three messages, they gave only the compliment that I seem like a good seamstress, but the rest was all insulting the dress.

>I ended up blocking the person from my tumblr, mainly because I felt myself about to retaliate and get mad at them, and I did not want to stoop to that. My friends all say to ignore it, that the person was just being a troll, but it does not change the fact that it hurt. The dress was supposed to be bright and fun and summer feeling. It was my first ever attempt at making a Lolita dress, and pretty much my first real attempt at dressing Lolita (as the first time was done with what I had available), and I was just excited for how the dress turned out and now it is all a little spoiled. For some reason whenever I hear this term tossed around, I think of a very sad lolita that wishes she had a pair of nice round titties to pop out of their brand dresses too...

Seriously, the bodice is probably the most unnoticeable aspect about the coordinates and yet you only find yourself staring at their titties? Pervy girls.

>> No.6919228

>>6919220
When the bodice isn't large enough to accommodate your bust, it causes an obvious tightening and makes the skirt rise up. Also, it creates the illusion of one megaboob instead of two titties. No one has a problem with lolitas with big boobs, we just want them to wear dresses that fit their glorious tatas.

Lolita is about the details, and that's one of the details which is really obvious. But yeah, we're pervs.

>> No.6919236

Because of the way Lolita dresses are cut, most boobs aren't defined anyway. What I consider boobloaf is when boobs don't fit inside the dress and get pressed out, so it looks like there's a loaf of bread in there- there's a few examples here fuuka.warosu.org/cgl/thread/6422219

Shit I've been thinking boobloaf is like monoboob

>> No.6919286

>>6919243
let me tell you the story of my people.

lolita bodices are cut with a default cup size, which is around a B cup. This allows for about 2 inches difference between the bust and the underbust of the bodice (not account wearing ease).

Anything with a bigger difference than what the bodice is cut for is going to either make the definition between two breasts disappear in the middle (creating one long lump in the bodice between boob) or it's going to pull the breasts inward and create a mass towards the middle of the chest, once again losing any definition between breasts.

So when you lose that obvious 'oh two boobs' it's going to be a 'boobloaf'. However, this is a lot more common than most people point out, because when it IS pointed out it is usually because you can see the seams (normally on a princess seamed bodice) pulling tightly across the chest.

I don't think it looks bad in most cases (since it happens so often) and can easily be covered up with layering up top.

It DOES look bad especially in the second example, where the boobs have been pulled in and squeezed together in the center of the chest, creating a megaboob. I personally will always have a boobloaf. however I minimize it by wearing shapewear or minimizers to seperate and distribute the breast tissue toward the sides of my rib cage to keep them away from the middle of my chest.

Hopefully you understand better now?

This is kind of me right now, OP.
Someone called my coords 'mediocre' and it seems that they were being completely honest and simply observational. I'm not quite sure how to react.

It kind of hurts even more when you know that people aren't saying such things to spite you, if you get me.

Don't let it get to you. You don't NEED to have impressive amazing coords. Just enjoy dressing in the fashion. This is sort of the reason why I don't post to places like d_l and keep my outfits on my own tumblr. I wear Lolita for my own enjoyment, not to impress and wow other Lolitas.

Sometimes I wonder if when comments come up like that, if the commenter is someone who dresses to impress others and automatically assumes the same of other people? IDK.

>> No.6919900

>>6919751
if you obviously know the guidelines (like your not a newfag) and you didn't ask for constructive criticism, then that comment wasn't really called for. However, if this comment came as a complete surprise to you... as in, you thought you were hot shit, and now you're not sure... then that's where you need to decide for yourself if you want to try and get better or if you're happy where you are (obviously you would need more than just one person's opinion on this if you are now insecure and want to improve)

I have a lot of hit or miss stuff. But I 100% know that and I don't post outside of a really small tumblr (less than 50 followers) and a private list on my facebook (only close friends I actually know in IRL and consider friends can see it, so like 10 people on my friend's list).

>> No.6919918

Don't let it bother you. It's a simple critic. We're all so used to some of our friends and family saying, "OH MY GOSH YOU LOOK SO CUTE!!!" in whatever you're wearing because they want to be polite or they genuinely like your outfit. It's a bit easier to be honest with complete strangers than friends and family so people tend to get more criticism online. But remember mediocre isn't bad, it's just basic, normal. Nothing to get your bloomers in a twist over. Honestly, your reaction seems a bit conceited, sorry if that seems rude. I dress himekaji and I consider a good 70% of my coords to be mediocre. There is always room for improvement. If you open your mind and try new things I bet you can create some really beautiful coords.

They never said they would ban people for coming here or posting here in general. They said they would either ban or "time out" someone caught making a secret about someone or starting drama here. The rule is you can't name names when causing drama, not "don't go near cgl." I don't think that's power hungry or heavy handed given how many comms have much stricter rules.

Also it was hardly a speech, it was a couple sentences. You're welcome to feel "creepy" about it but are you sure that's not guilt? I post here regularly, I've spoken to mods about that, and I'm not worried because I and they know I'm not causing problems.

As soon as everyone starts acting like adults, I'm sure they'll be treated like adults. I'm not even from Chicago and I'm tired of seeing their drama up here and on BtB. Something needed to change because it was getting out of hand. If you're not used to seeing people's outfits scrutinized and nitpicked on this board there is no helping you.

I am used to seeing it on here, and it's still a big eye-roll. Being used to seeing something doesn't make it right. That's a dumb excuse for bad behavior. Sure, everyone can have an opinion, but why does it have to be cruel to get the point across?

>> No.6920879

I'm still confused as to why you all seem to think this is "Chicago Drama" just because it's about a girl from Chicago who has only been to one meet-up. The dreaded "Chicago Drama" that you all allude to is bitches getting in catfights and spreading it all over the internet... not nitpicking at someone for looking bad. The whole thing going on in that comm stems from it being a huge community of girls ranging from adults living in the city to teens living in rich suburbs to people living in other states who come two or three times a year, and they all start off with VERY little common sense thinking "Everyone will get along with me and agree with me and Lolita will be a kawaii wonderland!!" and then flipping their shit when they are forced to realize that is not the case. This post feels like someone, maybe a lolita but maybe a cosplayer, who stumbled across a whiny special snowflake on tumblr and wanted to share. The derailing that went on here just to continue bitching about the unrelated Chicago comm drama is ridiculous, and has nothing to do with this kid, or probably even the OP.
