I'm going to cosplay John Doe from Dream Eater Merry for Japan Expo USA. I'd like some opinions on fabric for the body suit and tail. I was thinking of buying a zentai suit and modifying it but… will my binders be really obvious underneath?

And in the manga, his tail looks like it's actually furry, while in the anime it looks like it's the same material as his body suit. Which version should I go with? Or should I use whatever fabric the body suit is made out of but give it the little spikes in the manga version?

Should I go paper mache, cardboard, or something else? I kinda want it to have some weight to it so it'll last longer than a cardstock mask, and at least curve a little to fit bitter on my face.

How does one go about making these boots and gloves? I can't figure out a way to armor any gloves while leaving them flexible. My issue with the boots is making them without buying a pair of boots first (the plan was to make shin guards and a cover for slip-ons, then attach those after I put them on).

If you're wanting to try out the style go to Taobao for dresses/skirts and a thrift store to try and find blouses. >>6927110 linked petticoat stores, and Classical Puppets is a go-to for petticoats as well.

For a guy or girl dressing up like a guy? its always good to ask first!

But generally with boots, coming from girls opinion I get cheap boots and alter them. a lot of time costume boots and put gel inserts in the bottom to make sure you are comportable during the con. but I would look on ebay or buycostumes.com . If you cant find a pair of green boots like that you can do this:
Get a pair of boots you are willing to alter. make boot covers for it. glue it to the boot. Typically I use fabric tac for gluing fabric to shoes, I mean it works for me and hasnt fallen apart yet. then for the kneepads, I would use maybe craft foam or eva foam to make the shape, then cover it in the same fabric you made the boot covers out of.
I hope this can help a little c:

The reason I'm using this picture is because I'm going to be attempting to create a lot of the ingame items that he sells (as he is the generic game merchant), and I was wondering if I could possibly get some help with designing some of the items I'm going to make?

The items can be found on the Off Wiki but a list of some of the items I'm going to make are:

> Luck Ticket (HP Healing Item)
> Joker (Complete Restore / Second Life)
> Belial’s Meat (Status restoring)
> Harold Bat (Weapon)

There are also items that help your character and I just need a little inspiration as looking into any searches for in game item images or speculations have come up short.

Since the pants look like the more casual elastic-waistband type, I'd use kona cotton if money is no object or plain muslin if it is. Since the vest looks vaguely similar, I'd double up on a similar kind of cotton fabric or maybe a single layer of a bottomweight.

Does anyone have any recommendations for fine details/woodworking on props? KD Youmu here would be easy-peasy if it weren't for the details on the scabbard. I was thinking of using a dremel to shape medium density fiberboard for most of the scabbard's metallic parts, but only have so much in the way of tools, experience, and room.

It looks like all one piece just sort of snapped together in the front, but to make it functioning...

The top flap will connect to the back as being just one long piece. You can make a separate panel for the bottom or make the front bottom attach to the bottom as one long piece like the back/top. Make two sides and sew together.

Front square can be sewn to the top and you could use velcro or a snap to hold it shut. Point is you want to make it soft and kinda floompy so don't use really stiff fabric or interface it. You could easily sew piping onto the edges for that puffy look, but you'd have to line the fabric (a good idea if you use light weight cotton or something)

Does anyone know what's up with my machine? Every time I start to sew, the thread either bunches up something awful, like tons of strings of threads just all over the place, or it does this. Sometimes the thread is so loose that I can just pull the seams apart.
Also, whenever I stop the machine, and lift the needle, when I start sewing again, the thread comes out of the eye, so I have to manually rethread the entire thing; I can't just stick the thread back in.

You can start off with a concealer so that your lips won't be as pink if you need to!
Also, before putting concealer on your lips be sure that you are very hydrated. Otherwise when you put the concealer on it looks really crackly and makes your dry skin really stand out.

I asked this in another thread, but could probably still use some help with it.

I was wondering if anyone would even really know where to start with this one. I absolutely love this, and it's on etsy but I'm not paying 300 fucking dollars for it. Someone gave you advice in the other thread, use it. Not only is that batshit ugly, but you can literally see every seam, which means you can see the exact shape of every part of it. wow that is ugly as sin. But it looks ridiculously simple to make. Looks like she used a serger and just serged ragged strips of fabric together to essentially make a new textile. So a) get a serger . and b) pick an obnoxious color of thread that matches with the obnoxious mess of fabrics because it shows hardcore. Those little orange lines between each fabric color change are the seams, so use that as a guide.

but really.

please don't make this.

And seconded - this thing looks ugly, ridiculous. And this is coming from someone who dresses like an oversized doll all the time. If you don't plan to redesign it in a really cool and creative way, please don't make this... at least not in eyecancer-orange.

But, back on topic. >>6942771 is right, use a different Fabric. Felt just wont look good. As for the staff, thats a tough one...heres what I would do, though it would look TERRIBLE, but its a start:
>pvc pipe for the shaft
>towards the end where detail begins, find those small foam funnoodles with the bendable wires in it
>Make sure they are similar diameter to pvc pipe. You can find them at toys r us I think.
attach to shaft, bend to desired shape
>once its set, paper mache
>Then find a moldable surface (crayola has one, and I think theres a cheap off brand paper mold you can use)
>Etch and smooth to look like wood.
>paint

Thats the best I could do off the top of my head. There was a neat native resort on canada I went to that had wood shaped staves like hers, but I'll never find it again.

I'm not super familiar with the series, but aren't her pigtails a lot shorter? Trimming them down will not only make them look more accurate, but there will be less weight pulling out your styling.

It also looks like you tried teasing them before hitting it with hairspray. I'd wash it all out and detangle it then try again without teasing. What hairspray did you use?

>pic is a mediocre Yoko. Please aim to look better than this.

-For starters, use something other than paint (unless you're very good at it and have a steady hand) or duck tape to create the flames on her bikini. If you do it with paint, take your time and make sure it looks nice. Those flames are the easiest to screw up.

-Make sure your top and bottom are fitted perfectly. You don't want it too big or too small. If it's not your size, you'll look like a fool. (but I'm positive you'll make it work)

-Get a good quality wig. Also look at a lot of references for her hair. A lot Yoko cosplayers tend to do her bangs wrong and/or put her skull in the wrong side (it's pretty rare).

-Use good quality materials on your prop and costume (unless you are absolutely sure you can create something good with cheap items)This will make a huge difference.

-Last tip, just put a lot of effort into it. You will be able to tell whether or not you put effort into your costume. In all reality, Yoko has an easy design and because of this, flaws are a bit amplified.

As for contacts, I think this will do the trick.

well, the accuracy is triangle top and underboob and you are unlikely to be able to get both with a traditional push up bikini top because so much of Yoko's boobs are exposed and most push up tops are designed to pad from the outside and underside of your boobs to give you cleavage. I suggest you pad the left side of the triangle top to even them out and then kinda...move your boobs into place where you want them to be, tape them to your bikini top and try to use the bikini top to hold them in place as much as possible. Sock glue, double sided tape, and other body-friendly adhesives are advised, as well as some good construction on that top.

Awesome. My pattern needs 2 yards of 45", so I'm good there. I'll definitely head over to a fabric store soon to see what they have, but at least I can use this as a cheap test if if it doesn't work out right. Looks like I'm gonna give this fabric a try then, thanks for your help.

I think you should cosplay Yoko anyways! Even though I'm a double D, my boobs still probably aren't huge enough to be Yoko accurate. If she was a real person she'd probably be a double G or something. So just go for it. One of my favorite Yoko cosplayers has a small chest. I wouldn't worry about hiding your push up since almost every Yoko cosplayer needs it, real people don't have cleavage like that.

I want to make the gun but I am having a problem trying to figure out how to make the base of the gun, so that I can unscrew the front from the back.

I'm having trouble finding any good staff prop making tutorials, and I need to figure out how to make Aladdin's staff (pictured)

I'm unsure whether to go with an expandable foam + dowel base or paper mache + cardboard or what, his staff tapers at the end and is thicker at the top so I'm not really sure what's the most cost effective option here. Any help would be appreciated greatly.

I just wanted to say thank you to the anon who recommended resting my color run bbtsb skirt I got in the mail a few months back in cold water with a gentle detergent. I finally tried it out today.

Something thick that doesn't wrinkle. Go to the store, find something that looks like it could work and give the corner a scrunch. If it wrinkles instantly don't get it.

Nope. If you want it stiff, either go over it with masking tape+newspaper mache + paper mache or start over and carve it out of insulation foam.

Sure. Most of it is just waiting for stuff to happen.

All I did was fill my sink up with cold water and added a small amount of all scent/dye free detergent (what I already use). Then I just made sure the skirt was completely covered in water for a few hours, drained the sink and then tried to get as much water out as possible and now it is drying flat on my table.

Not a huge issue. Since you seem to have experience what's the best way to cut/shape it? Utility knife? Hot wire?

>> No.6951898

>>6951889
Utility knives work well, but make sure you have a bunch handy if it's a big piece as the blades will dull. Bread knives are amazing to get the basic shape, but rotten for detail. Never tried hot wire on soft foam, but it might work. If you have one handy, give it a shot and report back!

Learn whittling and make it out of wood.

Or you can make the staff out of a wooden pole/pvc, wood might be better for the tapering, and the rest can be constructed out of foam/paper/sintra with some sort of stiff covering on the outside.

Then, texture, sand, paint, drybrush, wash, and topcoat.

>> No.6952454

>>6946655
Don't use it.

if you have a plastic crystal, and are just using the filters for covers, then you might as well just paint it with some transparent green. It'll create a much better effect.

To the yoko cosplayers! My boots have finally arrived in the mail. the zippers arrived WAY before them but I can finally get to work. I am too excited about this, imma see if I can walk yall step by step on what I am doing to these boots the best that I can. I know it wont turn out 100% awesome but imma try.
Also the boots fit me a bit tight, but then again I usually dont really wear shoes my size and these fit me snugly. I am a US size 7 and they sent me a 37. I am not complaining because I think the snug fit will help me when it comes to making sure the boot doesnt fall off while walking after everything I am going to do to it.

And if you wanna get fancy with it, you can go to ACmoore for the little wodden spheres, drill a hole in one side, and drill a hole on the top of the dowl, get a double sided screw and screw one ontop the other.
