Hey, seaguls. I have a bit of a hypothetical situation for you.

Say you're at work or school when you see a few of your fellow coworkers/students gathered around a computer. They're all giggling and, wanting to find out what all the fuss is about, you pass by to check out the screen. That's when you see a picture of your latest cosplay.

How would you react?

Not that interesting sadly, I ran into a coworker at a convention, he took my photo (last minute Wind Whistler cosplay to match my sisters Fizzy gijinka) and posted it on facebook. More coworkers saw it but it only had a few comments and only 2 brought it up at work.

>> No.6917643

I actually had this happen to me recently. I put up a really cute cosplay that made me look like I was a flight stewardess but the top was showing my belly and the skirt was short. I had many positive comments on it so I put it up on my facebook. I come to work and one guy says 'nice pictures, anon.' I tell him thanks but suddenly everyone around him wants to see what he's talking about. It becomes awkward because everyone around him is a bunch of guys and they all get really close to the monitor saying 'that's nice, that's nice!' I eventually get the hell out of the room because it ends up being too creepy for me.

My co-workers know what I do in my spare time and I always ask if the want to see pics of my latest 'dress up'. They always say yes and we spend morning tea giggling and laughing and I tell them about the experience. They think it's a bit weird but it makes for interesting office conversation.

My reaction would depend on which costume it was, but my very latest cosplay involved a lot of boob and leg. I'm naturally hourglass to begin with, on top of which I worked hard to get myself into shape as well as practicing makeup just to make sure it looked right when I wore it.

If I caught colleagues having a laugh over it, I'd just stroll up behind them, call 'em out on being jealous fatties/flatties and go laugh alone with salad.

>> No.6917984

I've had something like this happen and I was cool with it.

I was old enough to have conversation skills to explain myself and I happened to be wearing some regular clothing I made that day. So I just said, yeah it's fun to make whatever you want, see this skirt and scarf? Made it a month ago. I can have whatever I want. If I see it in a magazine for $300? Nope, made it for $35.

When you put it in terms normal people can understand they end up admiring you.

If they question why would anyone dress up like a cartoon I point out that regular clothing can be very staid and I am artistic obviously, so it give me an outlet to make something out of the ordinary and push my limit.

When I talk to children that wonder why all these adults are walking around in costume I ask them have they "ever seen a pretty dress on TV that they really wished they could have?" They always say YEAH! and then I say that's what we are doing. We saw a really cool thing on TV and then we decided to make it.
After that kids understand.

>> No.6917991

>> No.6918001

I'm a teacher for children and my work found out about my cosplaying casually after a coworker I'm close with mentioned about some cosplay progress photos once.

At first when a parent overheard, they were ultra curious, but they all reacted surprisingly positive. My work is pretty supportive of my efforts, usually asking about my latest projects and interested in the convention experiences.

I don't cosplay scantily clad characters and mostly make cute, conservative designs by personality choice, so I think that's why they don't have a problem with it and see it as a positive hobby. I could see if they found me wearing something a bit darker or scantily, it would be a probable issue in my profession. The kids really like hearing about the superhero cosplays recently, or video games, and then entry anime like Sailor Moon and Pokemon.

I worked a temporary job in an office a few years ago doing general admin assistant work and everybody loved me. My boss told me that "we're really going to miss you," reminded me that they have full time positions available, gave me her card and everything. (I was working this job because I normally work full-time during the construction season.)

Shortly before I left I took some (pre-scheduled a couple months in advance) time off to go to Acen and sent links to the Flickr gallery of all my photos to some coworkers who'd expressed interest.

A year or two later, they won't return my calls and all my applications get passed over. I can't help but imagine they think I'm some kind of weirdo.

That's the thing I'm afraid of when it comes to cosplaying. I get embarrassed and spill spaghetti easily. It's not just coworkers but I'm afraid of family members judging me which is why I beg my friends not to tag my pictures on Facebook. I'm jealous of my friends who are able to do this without caring what others think. It doesn't help that my older brother can openly tell them that he's going to a con and they're fine with it. Meanwhile if it's me, they tell me that I'm too old for this. I end up saying that I'm staying at a hotel near the beach for 3 days whenever I go to the local con.

Human beings are more important than videogames. I would say ultimately yes, but I don't see how I would be "required" to quit DotA. I can play LoL, it just feels like playing a game for retards. I'm used to use all my gaming capabilities for all sort of mechanics, my knowledge etc.

So, yes, I'd play LoL a little with my gf, but I don't see a reason/scenario where I have to totally stop DotA, or if she tells me she's nuts and a totalitarian, which means I wouldn't be with her in the first place... because it's a fucking videogame.

Gush about how much fun the convention was. Rave about the awesome people I met. Stare them straight in the fucking eye while I'm yammering away and dare them to judge me out loud. I already waver back and forth between "cool a chance to talk about what I like," and "ugh I don't wanna," because it's impossible to have the conversation without 5545 Q&A's to establish context. Typical normalfag reactions like, "Wow! how did you do it?", and "Do you run around in the woods and pretend tobe an elf with magic?". But I explained I build armor as a hobby and like to show it off at conventions sometimes. As soon as I mentioned "and sometimes people pay big money for this stuff" they stopped being awkward and thought of me as some entrepreneur.

So all in all, it wasnt a big deal because I didnt make it a big deal. We all sat around looking at galleries of other cosplays from the con. Honestly everyone. normalfag or not, likes it but they are afraid of being judged.

OP, I'm a bitch so I'm going to try and answer brutally but honestly.

>inb4 "you're a bitch!", I already know that

My friends and I all stay away from what I'll call my college's "comm": the anime club, manga club, Homestucks, video game club, SJW gamer girls who never shut up about being oppressed in fandom and actually enjoy it. There are furries, otherkin, and Whovians in it too, but there are also Lolitas.

One of them wears Milanoo. She buys the cheapest shit around and claims the only difference between her and idols is Photoshop, not the fact she's wear polyester monstrosities on her 250lb poorly postured frame. She also wears Hot Topic lolita and claims to be a "brolita" because she wants to be called Matt Smith after her factive (think otherkin/headmates, but about real people). She didn't actually choose Matt Smith but someone fandom similar. Her coords? Tights, Hot Topic petticoat skirt, t-shirt, Milanoo accessories.

The next wears Bodyline, claims it's brand, doesn't like answering respectfully framed questions about Lolita to anybody, and is an SJW who claims expensive Lolita is classist (even though she spends a fuckton on makeup). She wears a bob with bangs and stripper shoes (like, stiletto thigh highs) with her Lolita. Wears Lolita 24/7, including to class and to work and to the gym (she wears her "Lolita" shoes there). Lots of Hot Topic "Goth" stuff.

The final is actually a good Lolita but a Homestuck and has shitty cosplays, but good Lolita coords. If it wasn't for her shitty friends, I would be friends with her.

I guess the "honorary" Lolita is someone who does closet cosplays but considers them legit, has caused drama in their own fandom and fanatically tries to get people to join it, spouts memes everywhere, and claims to have invented a few (awkward when KYM says otherwise). Her art is all tracer stuff.

>> No.6924078 [DELETED]

>>6924073

The second and fourth brag about being posted to /cgl/ but never mention the context. Pretty sure it's for being ita as fuck and having shit cosplays, respectively.

Anyways, my friends and I have tumblrs but we stay away from the more crazy fandom stuff. Our stuff is mostly hobby related, lifestyle related, stuff like tutorials, normal people food and beverage, cool imports from /jp/, and figures. IRL, we wear normalfag clothes. We're not /fa/ but we don't wear /cgl/ everywhere.

We don't post OC and we don't try and get many followers, so our follower counts are pretty low! If somebody follows us, we usually check it out, and sometimes, it's one of the college comm kids.

And yeah, we do laugh at them. We talk about them in the dining hall if they're wearing something especially horrendous, the same way we talk about shitty cosplay and Lolita we see linked on /cgl/ (like that Chicago balloon dress monster).

We don't like Homestuck but can respect good cosplay, just not the shitty closet-tier cosplays they wear daily.
We don't like shitty Lolita.
We find the drama they get involved in to be high-fucking-larious because they're just as spaghetti-tastic in classes.

>> No.6924080 [DELETED]

>>6924078

But, we don't hate /cgl/ related things by the nature of them being cosplay or Lolita. We just don't like weebs and people that can't conceal their power levels, and people that are basically bronies: people who have no identity or skills so latch onto something like MLP or gaming or anything for identity.

It's sad and pathetic. I've had people from that comm tell me that "someone like me" wouldn't be interested in anime club when I was a freshman, been called effectively an "evil prep", and then, on the flipside, been asked about local nightclubs and good parties and how to meet guys.

If people are laughing at your cosplay, either:

- You had it fucking coming by not concealing your power levels.
- You had it coming by being an asswipe.

There are cosplayers at my college that do stunning jobs but save their cosplays for cons instead of just slapping together clothing that kinda matches in color and cut and calling it cosplay.

There are Lolitas that actually put effort into their coords but do it at cons instead.

There are people into nerdy shit that aren't douches about it and who won't press the topic if somebody prefers not to talk about it.

They're not the ones we make fun of.
