I got these aviator sunglasses with magenta and cyan lenses (so like 3D glasses), and though they're far from any canon, do you think they'd be okay for say a casual meet or anything, as let's say a humanized Sollux?

I think it all really depends on your interpretation of the character and the character's physical appearance.

For instance, if you think that Tavros' hair is a shaved mohawk or at least half-shaved head, then I can get why you'd add a few punk aspects to your cosplay, like a few piercings and such.

The rest of the outfit would either just be his shirt and maybe some mismatched shoes if I can find some, or I was thinking I could pull off something more original but still keeping to his theme, anything red and blue, or yellow. Again, for just casual meets, so that I have a little bit more variety.

I don't really mind AUs or creative license unless they're poorly done or something shitty like neko Dirk up there. I'm tired of seeing fancy dreamers everywhere, but in a way that inspires "meh" instead of rage.

The angle, size, and shape of the glasses are pretty good. That's the only decent thing about it.

I think it's because the Striders in general, both Dave and Dirk, are often seen as the woobified, troubled loner type characters, and on top of that, since they hide their faces, people can seemingly do anonymous things that they wouldn't do normally.

If you are a popular fanartist, and you cosplay, your posts will get more hits, automatically. Most people on tumblr are not looking for cosplay photos, they are looking for art, comics, and fanworks. If you produce those, you will get more followers, so more people will see your work than the typical cosplay crowd.

This does not of course mean they are bad. But they always get more notes. And if you are friends with a BNF like this and they reblog you, you will get more notes.

It's just how it is, and yeah, it can be discouraging. I've been frustrated by it many times.

Hey /cgl/, can I get some advice? I'm working on my Nannasprite and need to pick out some glasses; however, I'm having trouble finding the exact shape and color that I want. I've narrowed it down to these four.

1 - right color, but too big/not oval enough.

2 - right color, but not round

3 - right shape and size, but wrong color

4 - right shape and size, but wrong color and also wire frames- the advantage to these is that they come from Zenni Optical, and so I could get them in my prescription and not need to wear contacts.

Right now I'm leaning towards #2.

Make sure you tattoos and paint are clean - try to do them yourself or at least be thankful, nice, and wake up early or your roommates will hate you.
Don't let the liquid latex (if you use that) for your piercings show too much so they're obviously fake, don't make your make up too dark and make sure it's even.
Don't use shiny fabric and for the love of god do NOT use a pushup bra. I do not understand the appeal of it. Look at Porrim - her dress basically falls off her boobs. If you naturally have big boobs, rock that body, but there is absolutely no appeal in adding anything.
Get a wig that actually flips. So many Porrims have half assed straight wigs they borrowed from another cosplay.

Lastly maybe look through some Porrim photos of both cosplay and canon, and find a few interesting poses to try? Decent poses and a good camera (with no one in the background) are half the battle.

Well I'm doing Fancy Dreamer Dirk (Rumminov design) so the only thing that has beads is around the derse moon on his chest. Personally I don't think either Dave or Dirk would really dress flamboyantly (by mens standards), they both seem to have a pretty simple, understated style of dress in the comics. Any accessorizing would be more keeping all parts of an outfit to a colour scheme- black, white and red/orange. Dave in particular likes to reject the mainstream (e.g. hipster taste in music), and thinks that cool comes more from attitude.

Well, yes. They're all uncanon. That was sort of the point of my asking for advice, in that I'm not truly happy with any of the options I've found.

As for being ugly- that's sort of a matter of personal preference. Personally I think that wire frames are really ugly, and tend to avoid them.

In this particular case, I am leaning towards plastic frames because I am going to be wearing a heck of a lot of white, and would like to bring in the accent color wherever possible. Thicker frames=more color. At least, that is my thinking on the matter.

Isn't Vriska like, eight in that? Keep your makeup young, stay away from her usual colored eye makeup and lipstick look. A neutral dark grey will probably be fine for her lips, tinted a little blue if you prefer. I'd caution against blush, but kids do tend toward rosy cheeks so that could work.

Akujin's aren't exactly canon as you stated, but if you have a smaller face the Minis are the only pair you can buy that won't be gigantic.
However, if your face is more 'normal' sized, LightningAndLace sells acrylic glasses that edge more towards canon. (I will attest they do look more opaque irl than their stock images would suggest)
