Dear CGL, I have a few questions to ask you. Recently, a good friend who is a cosplay maker has offered to make me a cosplay of a character of choice since she knows my interests. However, the thing stopping me is this- I'm a heavily modified individual. I have 24 piercings, 10 on my face alone(and of those 4 can't ever be removed, not even for a day) I also recently got subdermal work done on my collarbones that's very obvious, and some very visible leg tattoos. I feel like I can't cosplay most of the people I'd want to because of this. :/ What does cgl think? (I am a lady fyi, but I would gladly crossplay)

Would you care if someone had a ton of piercings cosplaying a non-pierced character? what about tattoos? someone with implants?

Do you guys know of any heavily pierced/tattooed characters?

Just cosplay characters that are covered up. Problem solved.

Do what you want. Yeah if you're full of piercings someone is going to get offended. Don't do anything "cutesy" like Madoka. I'd say go for some bad asses with attitude. Even if those characters aren't pierced/modded, it would be a pretty cool addition. Some characters I'm thinking of are Bayonetta, Nana Osaki (Nana), Jan Valentine(Hellsing), or Skull (Reborn)

I think you probably should have been thinking about these kinds of situations before you decided to get tattoos and body mods.
You can do whatever the fuck you want, but most of my tatted and pierced friends know that some people aren't going to like the fact that they're cosplaying dainty and elegant characters with them. That's that.
Accept being judged because it's honestly part of the territory.

But if you are paranoid then look up fully covered characters like >>6886788
suggested. I mean there's not much else you can do besides try to cover the tattoos with special makeup and take out the majority of piercings and hope nobody notices.

it's a thought. my friend keeps telling me to do tali. idk. I'd rather find a way to /embrace/ my mods instead of hide them.

>>6886809
that's my worry. :C I don't handle confrontation wall, and idk what to do if someone yells at me for 'ruining' theire character. Watched am emma frost burst into tears from these three guys PISSED that she was tattooed at philly this weekend. :x makes me hella nervous
If i were still free of mods I'd do adam warlock from marvel, but no WAY i pull him off with a face full of metal..

I don't regret my lifestyle. I work as a body modification artist and piercer full time. Also, hence my concern over this and wondering if you guys knew of pierced characters. I am trying to think about this situation and piss as few people off as possible.

Yes.
>What about tattoos?
You can cover those up, its not difficult.
>Someone with implants?
There are tons of big chested ladies to choose from.

implants aren't of the 'big brested' variety. I have six half cut silicone beads under my collarbones. Think like the people with horns. Can you enlighten me as to why someone with piercings doping a non-pierced character would bug you?

>> No.6887083

Hmm OP I say do what you want, but like >>6886809 said, avoid anything cutesy. Wear something that would cover your non-facial modifications and then just try to rock the rest.

Seeing someone with piercings and stuff in cosplay wouldn't really bother me toooooo much. It's just that much of the time those doing it are more of the Hot Topic variety of cosplayers wearing really shitty and poorly-made costumes.

It's not uncommon to see cosplayers with open-back costumes with tattoos on their shoulder blades, etc. Any not-distracting tattoo isn't a big deal. But your situation is a bit more unique, huh...

Possible ideas for you to consider with costumes:
>Wear pants (obvi) or opaque tights or pantyhose to cover your legs if you decide not to do makeup.
>Maybe someone with armor, or at least shoulder pads to cover your implants
>Some type of face-mask
>Design some cool gijinka that'd mesh well with your style
>Anything super artsy and detailed will probably pull the attention away from your mods and toward the costume

Hello! What about the wearing clear piercings? I had a classmate at my all-girls-catholic school who had nose piercings and wore those to get away with it. Google-fu leads me to this: http://www.mspiercing.com/group/retainers-25.aspx

As for a pierced character I like, here's Arashi from Paradise Kiss.

I was going to suggest Noiz but with those it'd probably be hard for you to crossplay.

i wish i could, but for some piercings (namely my cheeks and bridge) retainers aren't a safe choice. I can put them in everything else/take those out, but yeah. and cheeks are pretty obv. piercings. :<

>>6887083
so if the costume was well-made you wouldn't be as bothered by piercings? And yeah I have some great makeup for hiding my tattoos, they aren't as much of an issue.

>>6887185
haha, they are in my collarbones, their just an astetic thing, not breast implants. thanks for him! That's a total possibility, also bridge piercing~!

skin-toned ends? I assume your cheeks and bridge are barbells or posts that can have the ends changed on them....

Not >>6887083 but this is a yes and no thing. If you actually try to cover up most of your tatts and take out what piercings you can (and wear flesh coloured ones if want/need) then it shows you have at least TRIED to fit the character. I generally only bothers me when someone is extremely lazy and doesn't even attempt to cover a piercing or tattoo that can easily be hidden before cosplaying. It's like what >>6887092 said. That's why it bothers people, but I think more often than not it's because those people do something that clashes, or are really lazy.

You can only do what you can with all your body modifications. But there are a lot of cat-suit characters out there, or like it was suggested make up a gijinka, like a Pokemon or something. Otherwise go for full coverage if it worried you, like Sheik or something.
