Anyone hear anything about the hotel not providing some amenities at the request of the con? We haven't checked in yet, but I'm hearing from people about not getting an iron, soap dish, blow dryer, and such and being denied them when they contact the front desk.

This hotel be dumb yo. We got a hairdryer, but that is literally it. They sassed me when I called to ask about literally anything else (mini bar, ice bucket, maintenence, etc). Also don't eat at Media Bar it's garbage. Would not pay out the ass to stay here again.

Sadly only spent a day there, but the new Hotel is great. Nice and spacious, and it really accommodates the size of the convention well. The dealer's room is much bigger too.

Only downside was waiting about 4 hours in line for the wristband. We had to wait in a line just to wait in another line that was located inside the Artist's Alley. Shit sucked but I got a lot of spotpass friends.

I understand that the con doesn't want to mail badges because it's worried about people making duplicates but the sad fact is that most dupe badges will be snagged by people that (like me) aren't paying for a badge as is. I don't buy a badge mostly because I don't want to spend hours in line, or pay $65 through on-site just for a dealers room that I've never bought anything from in 5 years time, and maybe a panel or two. They may lose a little money, but with how overpriced everything else is, they aren't exactly on the line between comfortable and failing. This con can use any positives it can get, and being able to get your badges and walk right in would be a huge one.

Was checking the A-Kon facebook and came across a post about cars being directed into a parking lot, only for the cars to all be towed. A-Kon's response is interesting to say the least:

" At least one person has been found intentionally misdirecting cars into private or County lots, thus guaranteeing they would be towed. We are still working with DPD to see what exactly happened."

Can't say if it's a staff member or not but about 40 cars were towed last I heard.

$129 per night rooms cost $190 a night at room rate. They did the same shit with the Sheraton. That's con, not hotel.

The items removed from the hotel was by the request of the con, not the hotel.

The registration line issues have been happening for far too long. Con, not hotel.

Weapons check staff nowhere near the same page, passing legit weapons but denying props. Con, not hotel.

Shutdown of dealers room and artist alley for almost entirety of Saturday. Stupidity of the con, not the hotels fault.

Countless cosplay contest issues. Con, not hotel.

Complete lack of parking because the con location has nowhere near enough parking to handle the entire crowd...con, for choosing the location, not the hotel's fault because it's parking is pretty well set.

Expensive food set up during the convention was agreed to by the convention. That $4 sad looking hot dog? Wouldn't have existed if the con didn't agree to it.

Choosing to put both registration AND the artist alley/dealers room down the same hallway that's far too thin to accommodate that much traffic, and ONLY allowing access to that area through that hallway, was a design done by the con, not the hotel. There's no reason a con with that much experience shouldn't know how much traffic to expect for those things.

Most of those terrible panels were allowed because people put in for them extremely early. Many events were told no because they put in for them months ago, and were tossed on a waiting list that you could only move up from if someone dropped a panel. Con, obviously.

To be mildly fair, had I actually had my depression meds etc. the people of the con may not have been as fucking obnoxious, but it seemed way to crowded for the amount of space, lines got ridiculous, drunk children everywhere was not helping any of that either.
"Crowd control," or the complete lack of it aside from "move out of the center of the walkway you dumb cunt," was definitely a large contributing factor of this con being even more shit than usual.

Yeah it was my last A-kon. My group performed a skit and were directly under the chandelier that shattered. It rained chunks of glass on like 20 people. I discovered later a small bit got in my eye but I was able to wash it out. My friend was also hit IN THE HEAD by a low flying tshirt and had balance issues for the next few days. He was literally falling everywhere. When we addressed it on the forums, at least in my case, someone offered me a free badge for the following year to get me to shut up about it.

During the con I saw a guy dressed as magic man. After an exchange of words he offered me a sugar cube that "Finn" gave him. The next few hours were the most meaningful moments in my life.
