When Demoman was posing, the high winds started peeling his (or I think it was a "her") beard off and everyone shouted "Spy!"

Saxton Hale guy was great and funny, he was directing the whole thing. At the end, he took out a ring and actually asked one of the Engineers, his girlfriend, to marry him in front of everyone. Was a touching scene as they cried and hugged among them many "awws" from the crowd. Afterwards, everyone congratulated him as he gave out TF2 trading cards to all who attended.

How does one go about getting into a cosplay group? I'd definitely make a costume if there was a Dark Souls or Attack on Titan or even a Gantz meetup. It just seems like it's mostly Hetalia, Homeshit, Bronies, LoL and ultra weeb-teir shit like soul eater. The only metup I've seen that I thought about doing was Digimon.

Mhmm! on one hand I was a little sad, they used to only use the Terrace room (the glass area in the doubletree) for the maid cafe and Lolita panels/events. But they're really milking it for other things, this was a nice example. There were just a few tables with games, it was for charity, I don't know how it works, just went in and flashed my press pass. There was a maxxi dealing for one of the tables, that was pretty cute, I might be able to find a picture of that.

It's one of those lousy stories where the only real enemy was your expectation. The worst part is there were plenty of non-loli ticket holders, even someone dressed as inu-yasha.

Pic related, it's the Terrace room where the tea party should have taken place. It's also related because I don't have any photos of lolis, because it's so hard to ask for photos, 1/3 times you'll get blown up on about how it's not a costume. I should really keep doing it for the 2/3 that like having nice pictures of themselves.

See this is confusing to me because I was at the tea party and I definitely took a few photos with my digital camera when I was there, and even some of Melody Doll. Also there were at least three other lolitas going around with better cameras who were taking pictures of everyone too during this time.

So I'm not sure if they were just trying to keep non-lolitas out, or try to curb some of the drama which I imagine comes from photos being leaked outside of private social media.

So yeah! We had a great time. It was our first time cosplaying it and we received really nice reactions from people, which warmed my heart.

Next time, I'd like to leave more time to polish up the costumes, and take lots of pictures. And maybe make some friends, that's be great.

Yes, if you don't feel comfortable with the idea of being photographed wearing something in public, wear it only in private photo shoots or the bedroom.

I don't like the idea that cameras are watching me almost everywhere I go in life, but I give up my right to privacy when I leave my home or a bathroom/changeroom (both of which are often used for photos and I hope to see lawsuits against this soon). Can't really do anything about it as that would infringe on the rights of others in public, and since these areas are just that, public spaces, you can't only give a shit about what you want. So, like I said the best thing to do is not to wear something in public you are uncomfortable with being seen in or photographed in.

Anyone have reviews of any of the cafes this year? There are so many now: butler, maid, host, and idol? More interested in hearing experiences from the host and idol because they are the new ones and there wasn't that much info on them pre-con.
How much was it? What was served? How were the servers? Did they perform anything?
In the program book it said something about if you were lucky you might be able to catch a dance performance from the idol one but if you didn't I would assume that it would just be a typical cafe then would it not...?

I assume it was successful, I was part of the last round (also last group that walked in) before they closed and my ticket was at 124 so they served at least 120 people before me in the 4 hour span.

I have nothing to compare to as I never been to any sort of maid cafe, all I know is they had a rigged game of rock-paper -scissors and they picked our table to win. which gave us a pack of pocky and lindor chocolate. I think they were tired because we were the last round and didn't talk to us much and just served the food.

Overall it was worth the $5 I think.

I did! For the first few hours there was a semi-pro at my table and since it was pretty crap tutorial mode, the guy taught me the up's and down's. I hadn't had much time to practice so I got REALLY lucky this time. The two depicted in the photograph were probably my favourite players of the night though. The one on the left, Taylor (we were all on first name basis it was pretty cool), kept raking in the chips. I think these two had about 300 by the end of the night. By closing time they were just betting blind and it was so much fun to watch. Lots of laughs were had.

The situation with me was just so unique, and I regret the kerfuffle it's made. If there were just a ban on photos during the event, in addition to keeping out people passing by I think that would be a lot more reasonable, and something I would want to defend.

As for the website, I was in contact with the media department, they told me I was good to drop in for the photos and the tea party knew I was coming, obviously just a bit of break down in communication. I'll be putting some more time into making sure I can shoot there next year, even if I have to buy tickets, do it like MmM and strap strap on a 2L BL JSK w/ an*tai*na* TPS.

See the thing is that the tea party has gotten some creepers, and media people are dumb. Like you apparently who didnt really take the time to read the policy. So because of that they generally only let people who GO to the tea party to take pictures like the camera whores we are, and our 'official' photographer who is friends with us can take pro ones during. Otherwise, no media. Bad seeds ruin it for everyone.

Besides the tea party, most people get their pictures taken, and it is likely how you approach them. Lolitas at AN are used to cons, but they dont want to deal with your shit. So if your reaction is always ew no, it is probably you not the people you are asking. There are enough of lolita photos from the con that you can tell that they were okay with taking pictures.

I think it's more like some lolitas got some really unflattering pictures of them taken that they didn't like and so they'd rather have another lolita who knows something about myspace angles and is tight with the comm so she can be more easily pressured to delete a photo that might show an embarrassing lump of fat or deflated petti.

I've never seen anyone turn down photos. Maybe if people are in a rush, or busy they might politely turn you down. Just making a quick compliment on their coord and asking for a photo would have most lolitas flattered. I can attest to some of the past situations with the tea party, especially with many people confusing lolitas and maids, including AN's own staff.

As for banning outside photos during the event I completely understand. Its the last day of the con, myself and most lolitas just want to relax, eat, and talk with our friends, not have to constantly get up for photos or talk to random strangers. The event isn't made to be a 4 hour photoshoot for outside people, its for lolitas to socialize with each other and relax, and take photos after if they want them taken. That really sucks about your experience, next time they should communicate with interested media people more clearly about good times for photography.

I saw a group of Disney princesses that were rushing on to some photoshoot and it was the first time I saw someone refuse a photo as a couple of people asked them a long the way. I did manage to get this one as Rapunzel stopped for a second 'cause Guile there wanted a pic of her hair. She later posed with a Mass Effect Garrus which I missed taking a pic of but she luckily posted online later. I followed them but they went off to the edge of the convention center grounds to who knows where as I couldn't follow discretely after that since there was no one else around by that point.

my picture of cosplayers/cons often have economical problems. they throw a lot of money on the cosplay, the travel to the con and also a lot of shitty merchandise from their favorite anime, that they dont need at all. A lot of people buy shit like that when they dont have the money for it.
