omg popcorn I missed you

The London MCM meet/photoshoot was terribly organized, to be honest. It started with a big group shot and then broke off into individual blood colours and kids and whatnot.
All of this went alright, but once it was time for 'requested ships' everyone just kinda left while the organizers shouted. It was almost funny, but thank god I wasn't in cosplay because the people 'in charge' (used very loosely) were having a total shitfit and literally screaming in individual cosplayers faces. That shit ain't fucking cute, MCMstucks.

Pretty bad, actually. It was my first time cosplaying anything, and of course it would be Dave's alpha outfit. My wig wasn't the best and I didn't really know how to properly put on wig caps.

Pretty awful. It was at Ohayocon 2012 and the Homestucks were the absolute weebiest crowd I had ever been in. Everyone was kissing everyone and singing and it was just really embarrassing to be around.

my first homestuck was at a small 2-day college con. I didn't see anything wrong being a troll and walking on campus but I got tease and shouted at from the walk to my car to the where it was being hosted at. As I was walking back to my car, some idiot threw starbucks at me and soak my whole costume. That was just day one.

next day I did a kid, but being black with blonde hair. i was still called racist remark or 'Hi nicki minaj' 'nice costume nicki minaj' 'Are you nicki minaj' no matter how many time I told them I was Rose Lalonde from homestuck. Pretty good, actually. My first test-run of the costume was just with friends for a karaoke meet, and I also had friends who knew how to apply makeup properly.

First time actually cosplaying Homestuck at a convention was also pleasant; I was Terezi at AX 2011, while the fandom was first exploding but before it had gotten too large. I made cookies and distributed/decorated them at a meetup, so it was a recipe for making friends without having to invade personal space. All in all a good time.

Does anyone have any pictures of good Midnight Crew/The Felt cosplayers? I'm having trouble sifting through crap to find good ones and I'd like reference for my own future cosplays.

How does HSG like their Zahhak wigs? Does it need to be a lace-front to have the right effect?

If you want to have an accurate wig, I think a lace front would be best, then add in the sharp widows peak with wefts/strands.
Tho I've seen some people style nice Zahhack wigs without using a lace front, and styled the bangs into a triangle. Tho that takes a good amount of styling too.

does HSG have any suggestions for where to find actual violet extensions? I need to start ventilating my wig but everybody's purple looks too close to indigo. should I just dye them myself?

Why not just cosplay Dirk anyway? Who cares if your body and face is feminine?

If you must, find a good wig that would still resemble Dirk in some way (spiky and all), but would also be pretty feminine too. Then just do his regular outfit which is pretty unisex, just a simple shirt with his symbol and some jeans.

I greyed up as Aranea for Saturday of Anime Boston this past weekend! I hadn't been planning to go to the meet, but then decided at the last moment to try and find it, asked around but couldn't find anyone who knew where it was, looked for it in the usual meet areas, couldn't find it, decided to go back to my room and ungrey, got lost, and accidentally found the shoot anyhow. Or rather, accidentally found myself spectator to The Homestuck Parade as the meet was apparently being moved outdoors. I... didn't stick around, though.

Mostly pretty good, actually! Godtier!Aradia was my first; it was well received and I had a lot of fun wearing it. The only thing I hadn't anticipated was how difficult it was to maneuver with the wings, especially in heavily crowded areas.

You're super cute! One thing I noticed right away that subtracts from the quality of this cosplay is the way you parted the bangs. You should straighten them first, then use bobbypins to hold them in place to the sides. (Hide the bobbypins though, of course.) Right now, the parting just looks messy and unnatural. My first time was cosplaying God Tier Jade at last year's Metrocon, and I actually really enjoyed my experience at the photoshoot and panel. But it seems like I lost my taste for the photoshoots after that, cause at Megacon I didn't even stay for more than five minutes.

Kid cosplays are always easy: many of their shirts are on the official sites, and you can easily just find shorts / jeans / skirts / whatever to match, any appropriate glasses (although Dirk's would be a bit hard to find / make), a styled wig, makeup if needed (lipstick for the Lalondes especially)...

I greyed up for the first time last Sunday (Fanime) as Cronus, and it was pretty great. I've never had so many pictures taken of me - I personally don't think the cosplay was that great, but I did get a fair few complements and even a couple of "you're my headcanon cronus wow!" so that was pretty successful.

Actually I greyed up for the first time the previous day, Saturday, but that was as Marshall Lee from Adventure Time, not as a troll.

I've been saying it for some time now, that I'm shocked that the prudential center hasn't banned homestucks from the foodcourt or the convention center.
Like, not even just Anime Boston. the actual CENTER.
Its the community closest to me usually and I'd rather take the the bus and/or train for 3 1/2-4 hours to go to NYCstuck events than do things with Bostonstuck just so I'm not associated with a crowd that does these things.

Overall the Fanime Homestuck Meetup was pretty good- No shipping from what I heard, and from what I saw it was alot more organized and much, much easier to navigate through than last year. Octopimp did show up and cause a bit of stir.

I have the same standards for Humanstuck cosplayers as I do with Kids cosplayers.

If they're interesting and it looked like effort went into them, while still somewhat remaining in character, then go for it. Otherwise, at the very least pay someone to make your horns and get non-stain body paint.

It makes sense for casual meetups or for things like 50stuck. I've seen some cute human versions. Like genderbends and AUs, it only looks good when people put some effort into them.

When I think of Humanstuck, that's what I think of. Basically wear the outfit and any required accessories, then just omit the horns and makeup because horns would look weird on a human, and the idea was to avoid greying up because of hot weather, the possibility of sweating it off, etcetera.

I do know that people do have different interpretations, namely making Karkat a ginger for some reason.

Humanstuck is good because you can either simply dress up as the characters sans makeup and horns or you can do your own interpretation.

With the latter, my rule is that you still need to make it very apparent that you are that character and not just dressed up as a random person.

Most definitely, I would prefer the former since at the least you'd still be recognizable since you're basically a kid in a shirt with a symbol on it, unless you're being the Alpha Trolls.

The latter is a bit more difficult though, although some characters have distinct motifs like Karkat and crabs, Sollux and opposites (black and white, red and blue, or even black and yellow because... bee2), and so forth.

I requested for a commission, but they said they were busy with their lives, moving and all, so they'd get back to me soon enough.

At conventions, when you're going to be around a lot of people who are ALSO going to be dressing up, then it's highly recommended that you also do the same. Go big or go home, after all.

But at meets and more casual events, where you may not necessarily be in an environment where everybody else could be dressing up and being in costume, it'd be best to go for the Humanstuck outfits because at the least they still look casual. I've worn Dave's regular outfit as it is when just going out or for casual purposes, sans the wig, because to a stranger it's just a regular outfit.

I really don't get what drives people to make these tiny little worm horns. Yes there's a few panels with weirdly malproportioned baby horns, but for the most part it's pretty obvious what size they are. It looks especially stupid when people make them super skinny on ancestors or dancestors.
