I just saw this on the tumblrs.
I'm not a fan of Monster High, and it looks like this is pretty similar, but I'm a sucker for these loli-esque designs. I think that the Goldilocks chick so far has the best coord, though, some of them are kind of ita.
I'm looking at you, Madeleine Hatter.

Yes, but in the context of Ever After High attempting to be a brand like Monster High, they should make the character's appearances much more... obvious, I guess, to put it simply.

>> No.6878043

Watched the 3 previews off of youtube. It looks cute, gonna get a few of the dolls, but I don't get some of the things in it, like Cheshire Cat's daughter is a normal human girl with a cat eared hat. Also Red Ridding Hood's kid is also a werewolf...is Red a werewolf now too, or did she bang the wolf?
Mad Hatter's is cute even if ita because she's just the right amount of mad and there is no sign of Alice yet. Thank god for that

>> No.6878045

>>6878020
I think the problem is that Raven has black hair. Giving Snow's daughter black hair when they're meant to be rivals/foils/whatever because of ~destiny~ would make the branding confusing for little girls.

I mean, society and the toy market especially have more or less established that when you have two characters, the blonde one is good while the dark/black haired one is evil.

This goes all the way back to the 80s with the toy-cartoon franchises of the era. She-Ra toys (Adora = Blonde, her friends = pastel hair; Catra = Black hair, other minions = no hair or "sickly" colours) as well as Lady Lovely Locks (again, main character is blonde with pastel or brunette haired friends; Duchess Raven Waves had black hair and 'dark' coloured minions). Same goes for My Little Pony (Megan and Molly = good, Witches = black and bright, fiery red), the more recent Barbie and Tinkerbell movies.

The only series I can think of that breaks that repeatedly is Jem and the Holograms. Their man antagonists had equally bright hair to the protagonist's pastel styles.

Also, yeah. I know. I watch too many cartoons. I've got a niece that I babysit and she loves this shit. She'll probably be asking for EAH soon enough.

>> No.6878047

Huh... these are pretty cute. Never liked Monster High but I find these aesthetically appealing.

>> No.6878085

>>6878045
But Raven isn't the bad girl. Hell after watching the episode put up on yotube Snow's daughter is kind of a cunt. She wants her happy ending so she makes Raven's roommate change room with her, redecorates the room to what she thinks Raven should like and mostly just acts like a more innocent version of Cleo. Raven is a sweetie from whats been shown so far.

>> No.6878091

>>6878085
Right, but she's the ~destined~ evil one. I'm sure the show is going to be all about turning stereotypes on their heads, etc., but the set-up is that Raven is the evil daughter of the evil queen.

I like that their headmasters are the brothers Grimm.

The fact that it's a spinoff makes it sorta better. I was bothered by the fact that OP's picture seemed like a MH rip off. Then I saw Cupid in the intro.

Huh. I'd expect this sort of conversation on /co/ (Gawd, I haven't been there in ages). I've honestly just heard of this now. I'm sure that it's a typical, plotless show for girls, but I'm bored as fuck seeing how everyone in my apartment is gone, it's raining, and I don't have work until next week, so I might give this a shot. Kind of interested in the future cosplays though. MH cosplays usually turn out cool.

>>6879167
It makes more sense to have them as separate entities. Monster High franchise as a whole already has tons of dolls with a similar base model. Having a separate line with a whole new cast of characters and a new base model makes it more marketable. Mattel is also expanding this type of franchise with future spin off series after this one, focused on different themes. It sort of reminds me of Harry Potter.. while Hogwarts is the school of England, there are other wizarding schools all over.

Anyway, I'm unnaturally excited about EAH. It's definitely a plotless kiddy show at this point, but something just draws me to it. I never liked Monster High because I felt it was trying too hard to be ~gawthic edgy grundgy hardcore~, and I'm more of a girly-girl.

My one concern is that when people approach lolitas now, they'll ask if we're cosplaying EAH. But I suppose I'd prefer it to bo-peep or Dorothy.

You must've never worked in consumer products or the fashion industry. Lolita fashion may not be well known to the general population but people who work to market products do their research. Hell, they even have trend books forecasting trends for the next couple years with obscure finds like a tunic someone saw in Peru or a selection of unique color combos from an Indian wedding. There are several stores in Japan catering to Lolita fashion, there's no way someone who is researching fashion trends is going to not see it. So no, it's not coincidence.

Also, some women have a higher tolerance to pain than others. Some women even feel pain when they're not wearing heels. I can run in heels and not feel tired or sore after taking them off, it all depends on each woman.

Its just a pre-programming thing, girls today are taught to love makeup and fashion on focus on this early in their age. You get 1 isle of baby/kitchen set/home kids toys and you get 3 isles of fashion dolls, princess costumes, fairies and makeup.

& Of course all your dolls now are gonna be uber fashionable with skirts above the knees. And if no skirt above the knee, they must have a midriff or cleavage. Coz thats fashion for lil girls for ya.

I know people who are in the industry who recognize lolita and actually have a decent knowledge of it. I don't see any reason why toy designers wouldn't know about it either. Its cutsey and girly and very appealing to young girls. Its perfect for marketing.

> dat ita with cat ears

Why do I feel like this almost perfectly sums up /cgl/? Toss in a fat bitch with a giant chin and you're golden.

Preteens and kids like that kind of thing because it makes them feel more 'in' with the mature crowd because they can talk about heels, and fashion, and coffee shops and things that they feel are more 'adult.'

Their personalities are actually not as bad as one would expect. At least the main character of MH is sweet and kind instead of this shallow bitch Apple. Shit even the token 'bitch' in MH has her sweet side and is more of an interesting character.

I really really like Raven, but I'm not surprised because I already have a massive boner for the Evil Queen, so eh.

Basically, this.

MH has so much thought put into ech doll, down to the sculpt and character. Sorry but EAH is basically MH's half-assed little sister. MH was always meant to be a little tacky looking, though.

NGL though, I"d buy the dolls for custom bait. They have cute outfits.

I actually really like Apple White. Her design is cute, she has that adorable but slightly grating voice and she's an idiot. Pinocchio girl is my favourite so far

Off topic but I really really like Apple White's purse, and Raven looks like she's wearing Jeffrey Campbell Damsel heels.

their outfits are improved in the second tale, I am digging Raven's head pieces too.

I know, I just bought her because I think she's cool as fuck but I'm also worried about having it around in my room all the time.
I don't see a normal doll like Barbie being a trigger, and it's so pussy of me to cry trigger about a doll but... we'll see.

Maybe she is shapeshifting? We can't really know yet since she only had a few seconds of screentime. I'm hoping that she can shapeshift, and just wears the hat when she's in "human form" or whatever.

Whoever did those character designs should put their talents toward a show that isn't so mindless and clearly only exists to make kids buy toys.

But we want kids to perhaps learn to be a "rebel".

This show presents a positive influence. We should let it be pretty, too.

>> No.6885276

If the character designers are already the doll designers, they're using their doll designing talent to further their doll sales, not caring about the other way around as you assume. I think it's brilliant use of talent. You think people do this shit just for fun, or to please you people? No, actually, people do their jobs to make money. TV commercials don't cut it anymore, and Mattel has adapted brilliantly.
