I noticed. When I got a hamburger, the bacon looked a bit... well, not cooked. I still ate it anyway, though. The other two days I just had Swiss Chalet, which I'm hoping is okay.

Wonder why Harvey's would do that... is it because they had to serve thousands of people and they somehow rush the food? Well, I mean, the line did end up reaching outside the door at some point.

Case in point though, when I went to go get a drink (and probably unfortunately I went there at least twice) on one of the days, one of the employee's kids had to dispense the drink for me.

The problem with Homestuck and MLP is that not enough people volunteer for panel space, so these non-anime panels get space instead. If anyone can come up with a half decent panel, do it! It's much better than having NINE panels dedicated to MLP.

With the staff, it has to be people with legitimate resumes and being paid, not some random jackasses who they don't even take the information of down or anything. They can leave whenever and not be penalized in any way for it.

>>6866445
As staff. I'm >>6866362 but in my opinion, the con-goers are mostly fine. It's the volunteers that do nothing that are real shitheads. If they're going to use volunteers, they need to be supervised in a way that actually makes sure they're doing something.

I'm not saying all volunteers are bad; there's been a lot of great ones that really help out. But a vast majority refuse any work that isn't easy. For example, I asked two volunteers to watch a door for five minutes while I grabbed more staff and they just said "I don't really feel like it right now" and went back to talking right next to the door. Fuck bro, the supervisor probably would have given you an hour for that alone.

>people giving weird looks to cosplayers who put effort in and / or are posing

I get this sort of thing all the time from women around my mother's age, even though my own mom is really accepting and encouraging about my hobby. My main costume for the weekend involved being mostly covered up and layered, save for being really leggy (some high-cut dance briefs and high heels) - and I was wearing something accurate rather than a needlessly sexed up design. At one point on Saturday I was walking through the parking lot/food area in front of the Radisson and a really heavy-set lady in her 50's was sitting in a passing by SUV and she gave me the DIRTIEST look possible. And then an hour later a lady sitting in one of restaurants around the same age saw me out of the window and gave me a similar face.

As a young woman, I usually get a kind of smug enjoyment out of it and I'll respond with a "stay mad" sort of look. But sometimes it can just get nasty and I don't really need that when I'm minding my own business. :/ I think it's a combination of small-minded baby boomers who just freak the hell out at anything vaguely unusual, and women who've let themselves go and are projecting their insecurity onto younger women.

I'm not the most active or vocal feminist in the world but it's kinda depressing seeing women who were obviously around my age during the Second Wave starting to forget the values they fought for just for the chance to throw shade at a twentysomething in a corset and stilettos.

I can honestly count on one hand the number of times I've gotten weird looks or had creepy encounters with dudebro or neckbeard types. Maybe it's not registering with me because I'm choosing to filter it out of my awareness? idk. But I get a lot more weird shit from other women, most of the time older ones.

I guess so, but I more forgiving of aspies since they usually don't act weird on purpose. The same can be said of (some) asshole staff members but really, going to an anime con and not expecting spaghetti neckbeards everywhere is silly. There shouldn't be a place for angry people though.

Also, I highly recommend you guys do not eat at Harvey's, though you probably already don't want to wait in that line.

We had two calls over the radio about people vomiting at the Doubletree and Sheraton because of food poisoning from Harvey's (undercooked meat because Harvey's staff was rushing food prep) and there was likely many more unreported. There was no staff at the Sheraton to help the girl anyways so they had to radio in a bunch of people to head over.

Apply, apply, apply for those panels. Staff as well if you can find a job that you don't mind doing. Make sure things are going properly, stuff like that. Right now, I can't think of any good way to get the management to disintegrate because they're all such tight-knit asswads that they'll likely fight to refuse any people that would improve it. Having more anime/etc. panels instead of unrelated ones (or things like Otaku Weight Loss) would greatly improve the convention overall. People would actually be PSYCHED to go to more things instead of a panel here, a panel there, and then the other ones they want to go to either get shit all space or shut down early.

- Make the weapons check organized and actually make fucking sense
- get a competent dj for the saturday night dance
- fire Fingers and replace him with someone who has a psychological capacity greater than that of a 12 year old
- designate certain areas and time slots for bigger fandoms so that their panels and gatherings and shoots and the like can be done and over with and the fandoms can do their thing without bothering anyone else.
- nomioichi should be more than one day
- keep wrestling where it is, it's nice to be able to hear yourself think when going around artists alley. also keep the AtPop stage where it is.
- bring back old format for artist's alley, I understand it makes shopping easier but it also makes it harder for vendors to have diverse selection
- crack down on pirated and counterfeit shit in the dealer's room. create a blacklist for known sellers who have fakes.
- add some fucking compass roses to the maps in the guide book. We all took grade 6 geography guys, ffs. This should be common sense.
- Bigger photo alley perhaps?
- guests that are actually interesting pls.

You really need to push it. There are some panels they will accept with no hassle but these people are real faggots. If they can refuse a panels they don't see as appropriate (subjective, of course) then they'll likely do it. Again, with the subjectivity, MLP/Homestuck are two of the biggest non-anime panels that get regularly accepted.

I'm a fan of Power Rangers myself and while it's not specifically "anime", it's still something I think people would very much enjoy attending. Push that shit like none other. Power Rangers, or rather sentai, is much more related to anime than those other panels.

>>6866582
Dude, I was blown away by that radio call. I know it's busy but come the fuck on. Do you want actual TCC management to tell con-goers to avoid your establishment? I said it before, but avoid the nearby places that are really packed. Some places will rush and make sub par meals with horrible service. Tim Horton's surprisingly was doing not that bad.

>>6866591
That's why you really have to push it. Given enough support, they WILL accept panels that deserve space. It's all about that con-goer incentive. Maybe not instantly, but we can slowly siphon out the non-anime stuff. Thing is, the con is getting more and more popular each year, and with these panels being approved in the current years, it's attracting MORE of the non-anime crowd. Okay, they might watch anime, but they're giving incentive to continue making these horrible panels.

>> No.6866612

>>6866592
If you can talk abut it for about an hour (or stretch it for an hour with the help of other panelists) and you think it has the potential to be an interesting topic for congoers (either as instructional or discussion) then it has a good chance of becoming a panel.

It still needs to be suggested, get 4 people and be approved before it becomes an actual panel though. So even if it's an excellent idea, it may not be approved.

Coordinate with people before entering into the system.

If it's 4 different titles then they'll be too fucking lazy to merge shit.

If everyone uses the same title and description and fills it up it will go right to the top of their list to be approved.

I was just in line, waiting for time to pass, and as I got closer to the register I saw a little girl behind the counter, not at the register but like, near the drink machine.

I made an order for a Pepsi. I gave my $2.25 to the cashier, then after moving aside to let somebody else order, I saw the employee who took my order then turn to his side, look down and tell the girl, presumably his daughter or some employee's daughter to give me a Pepsi.

>>6866652
I'll go ahead and point out once again that management enjoy the MLP/Homestuck fandom themselves, so if anyone is to mess with those ones, you can expect management to actually listen to the e-mails from those con-goers. Which means more security/staff posted at unnecessary panels for the next year instead of places that need it.

But if you're talking about furfags specifically? How many panels do they have now? You could probably get some of them to scare off but if you get "tattled on", expect to be harassed by staff while the furfag go back to the whatever. Maybe they can fill in some of the empty panel space and smaller rooms with the shit they personally like which doesn't belong at Anime North, but don't deny relevant panels, cut panels short, and give other panels less space for the sake of those things.

It could be that the con has simply gotten too big for those who are responsible for it, and they don't have the skills to manage it effectively.

At any rate, I don't think anyone who went to Fanime regrets their decision.
