Hey /cgl/ I started a very helpful thread on fake facial hair last night, and this morning I come back to you with another question , this time about adhesive. It's my understanding that spirit gum is the best way to attach stuff to your face, but I also understand that not all of it is made equal. My question is: what is the best brand of spirit gum?

Also, what is the best remover? Or are they all the same?

Thanks in advance everyone.

I think anything that contains acetone will function as an effective remover, so even nail polish remover whilst not too great for your skin, will work fine.

I've always used Ben Nye for small applications, but most of the time I just use Medical Adhesive, the spray on kind. Easier to apply an even coat with, and takes a lot less time to get tacky.

Though you can create a better adhesion point, regardless or what you use, by taking a cotton ball and pulling off some of the fibers.

Ben Nye works well for me. They have an excellant remover called "Remove-it-all" which is fairly gentle but removes spirit gum and make up

CMT Anon from the facial hair thread here--

Ben Nye is my recommended brand for spirit gum too! I've used Mehron and Kryolan too, though, and they were fine.

As for the remover, I generally use Ben Nye's Bond-Off which is an orange liquid. A small bottle will do just fine for a casual user. Apply it liberally using a brush until all the adhesive is off of your face; make sure to use some to clean your prosthetic piece too! It also can clean the adhesives off the brushes. Just make sure you keep the little red cap with it, otherwise it'll evaporate.

It's a good idea to use some of the remover on the screw-cap part of the bottle and lid, too..... Nothing I hate more than having to whittle dried adhesive down and try and force a bottle of spirit gum open.

I used spirit gum and then Ben Nye remover, and found it really very irritating to remove; since i had to rub a use a lot of product. The beard lasted all day, just the neck area where it rubbed throughout the day became sparse. Does anyone have an easier way an less irritating way to remove the fibers?
