I realized a little late that I started my stripe at the wrong point so it doesn't line up quite right (or maybe this is inevitable when knitting in the round, I've never done it before). What I'm thinking is when I go to set the plume, is the a flag holder. You know the sconce's that drill to the wall and have teh holder pointing up 45 degrees for flags? Might get one of these and have a washer at the end, that way the plume can go through and noy fall out (plue is in a knot or somthing on the end). Heres the tutorial. I was thinking of modifying the concept for the plume.

And thanks! The real hero here is the discount paint. I used it as a coat just to see how it would look, and the material, scrap leather and fake leather scraps, bonded so well and gave it an amazing shine. The armor is a design I saw that I tried to emulate, lots and lots of layered card board and leather scraps (the left overs from leather workers online practically give the stuff away), but sadly its easy to see where its flimsy and not tacked down well. The shapes are the good ol' fashioned "leave something heavy on it till its the shape you want" on the crafting board.
the artorias is great though, definetly captured the war battered look. so ish I could make gauntlets that well. Mine are always so bulky.

From left to right: monkey shag(white), solid long hair(ivory), solid long hair(snow white), frosted mongolian shag(grey).
They're all of exceptional quality. Very thick, soft, and gorgeous.

I'm ordering a few yards of the ivory solid fur tonight, and some of their pretty upholstery vinyl to line it. (using the fur to make a fake pelt, and needed something kind of textured to line it with.)

I could have done the tights, thigh high legwarmers or the knee leg warmers. Since I didn't go with the lace designs on her sleeves, I'm keeping it consistent with the knee high legwarmers as well.

I was dumb and posted my progress in the autosaging thread by accident. Mima's dress is 90% complete, just need to sew on the bows to the shoulders and add a hand-stitch here and there. The cut isn't perfect, but the fit is pretty nice. Depending on which reference you use, the colors are either spot-on or totally inaccurate, so I went with some of the box art for the anime. Ooh, that's pretty sweet. As you can see, my CNC can't do fine detailing work, since for some reason whenever it tries to raise/lower the jig at the same time as moving (which you have to do for any curved surface), the machine completely loses track of where it's at and just gives this horrible mess. I was just lucky I didn't break the bit.

But luckily I'm doing something simple enough that I can just do a rough cut and sand it down smoothish.

Finished my Light of Earendil, it needs some tweeking around the garden wire area, the cracks with the light are bothering me. I realize the light isn't supposed to be BLUE but in some screen caps, the light is a faint blue instead of a warm white. I couldn't rig anything with a white led because I'm retarded, so this will do. It's better than it was before, so I'm happy with it.

I now have a messy gathering of half-finished pieces. Don't mind the ribbon on the hat, it's hastily pinned in place.

I basically sketched up a pattern for what I assumed would work for the shawl and tried going with it. The first prototype actually went better than what you see here; I thought I'd try some minor changes and it ended poorly. I also didn't account for how thin the material is (you can see red underneath near the stitching on the borders). The top corners don't meet as closely as I'd like but I think I can fix that by enlarging the neck circumference in the back.

That being said, I'm betting the thinness of the material can only really be noticed up close so I'm considering sticking with it, though that means it'll look bad in photos...I'm running out of the red fabric so I'm hesitant to have to remake it.

All in all I'm decently satisfied with it for my first costume attempt. Just the bottom tier of the shawl and the scarf and I'll be set!

Mic Sounders the 13th 'MS girl' cosplay for my GF is pretty much complete. I cant wait to take this out with her along with my GaoGaiGar.

It still needs a few buttons and things added to the chest and I want to add some highlights to some parts to make it look more like a toy. Going to try to do some hard edged comic style shading.

The equalizer banks in the shoulders are lighted and work, but I need to get some rechargeable AAAs before I cant test all the lighting at once. The guitar has a powerful speaker built into its back so the Eq's should stay pretty active I hope.

Yeah, I know how that is. It sucks to have a thing you're not satisfied with, but it also sucks to have to redo something completely.

For what it's worth, I do agree with you that they could be longer. If you do remake it, go at least double that long, maybe even up to four times as long. They could maybe be a bit thinner too, if you can get that to work.

What I do to judge lengths is take the original image and kinda un-rotate the ribbon/cape/whatever, turning it into more-or-less a straight line to give an approximate idea of the length in comparison to your height. Like so.

Oh, now that I read down the thread to >>6847176, it looks like you've already re-done it. That's probably a pretty decent length, then.

If you wanna improve on the thing later, definitely do the flowing stuff that turns into the drill (no idea what it's actually called) and wire that so it poofs out and such. It's a really effective thing.

If you can't iron it, you might be able to just steam it instead. Hang it up in your bathroom so that it's completely hanging free, and take a long, hot shower. That should help a little. For me this thing is kinda like my zen. I work on it a few hours, remake something, upgrade something, etc etc. It hasn't been about the end goal for me for a while now.

I'm pretty sure once I rebuild the neck, helmet, hands, feet, get all of the electronics in it. I'm probably going to be replacing piece after piece in fiberglass, honing bondo skills and just in general rebuilding everything from scratch.

This is of course to save on space, I don't have much of it here. If I had my own workroom or garage, I'd probably have made my own hall armor by now.

That's styrene underneath, but.. ABS on top, expanded polystyrene, black foamies? Difficult to tell the black plastics apart.

Here's my progress, ancient nord greatsword / nord hero greatsword section two. Need to be milling in a better medium eventually, and with smaller cutters for finer detail and less cleanup work. Just about done with the knit part. I basically just have to even out the pattern tension and do the lining now.

It's all Sintra, thanks for the compliment! I redraw a lot to match the cinematic more.. Honestly the low quality of my tools and meager budget forces my hand here. You and your cnc/laser cut stuff.. One day.

It's expensive, the router I cut this on is worth maybe... eh.. 1200ish, barebones. I'm in the process of building one for myself that's cost about 550usd so far.

>>6853014
Ha! The precision and automation doesn't magically come once you have a thing that does the things, you have to make the 3D model, set up the cuts, babysit it while it goes bzzzzzzzzzzz for 6 hours.. and even then there'll be plenty of cleanup work!

Hm, any particular reason you're cutting with MDF instead of natural wood boards?

Drives me nuts that this hread doesnt have "progress" in the original post anywhere, means i have to actually LOOK for it in in the catalog instead of being lazy with control+f

anyway finished starfires top, im scared to breath because I feel like the elastic is going to snap. Might add clear bra straps if i have to, though i'd like to avoid that.

Making posable leather wings for AX. First time working with leather, and its going fairly well so far but I have yet to figure out how I'm going to discreetly sew/glue the seems on the top of the wing. I really don't want the stitch work to be visable, and I'm not sure how I would glue the pieces down flat without worrying about them coming apart.

So my question is, do any of you seagulls out there with leather experience know how I can pull off the top seem w/o it looking obvious?

I'd move them over to the centre a bit, it seem might fine now but over the course of a day they will slip and move around.
You should probably glue them on and use the straps.

I'm a bit late, but thanks for the input and advice!

As for the scarf, I was planning on having 2 wires running down the length of it, but I'm anticipating some problems with it either bunching up (minor) or getting bent out of shape during the con (probably unavoidable, so I'm not going to worry about it). I don't really know if it would be better to have 1 wire or 2, or something else.

At first I thought about having a chicken-wire skeleton inside to keep it nice and rigid but I'll have to think about how I'd sew it in there at all.
