I wanted to know, is the 4chan panel at Anime North even worth attending? Ironically, of course.

Also General AN thread, unless there's still one hiding on page 10 or some shit.

>> No.6842561

Old thread is here >>6832012

The 4chan panel normally reaches overcapacity and is full of people shouting memes over light discussion of site.

It's the first and only panel I've ever sat completely through at AN

Yuri/Yaoi/Lesbian sex 101 all seem like trainwrecks. Probably a bunch of women for the yaoi panel, men for the yuri panel, spending an hour telling people what they could learn in 5 minutes on wikipedia.

There's a panel I want to go to (don't remember which), but it's immediately before the HS panel, in the same room. I'm worried they'll start filling in and causing a ruckus to make us leave earlier. Or they'll just come in and talk to each other while the panel's going on and be a nuisance. I'm also afraid I'll bump into unsealed trolls while leaving and get grey paint on my cosplay.

Friday 4pm: outside of Doubletree swimming pool

Saturday 6pm: outside of Doubletree swimming pool

Actually, it's a bunch of gay and bi men for the yaoi one, and a bunch of lesbians and bi women for the yuri one. Those panels have requirements, and only men can sign up for the yaoi one and only women can for the yuri one. They're meant to help out fanfiction writers who, otherwise, would have no idea what the fuck to do when writing smutty fanfiction. They can use Wikipedia, but Wikipedia doesn't haven't the answers that someone who's had experience with homosexual sex would. Some of the people who go to the yaoi one are very cancerous, but what do you expect from the yaoi crowd?

I could have sworn it was. I don't know why it wouldn't be. It's one of the most popular panels. There's always a huge line-up for it and not everyone gets in. At least "how to get a con bf/gf" panel has some humor to it. This one just seems like it's going to be one guy lecturing a room full of weeaboos who'll sit there and scratch their heads.

I'm no interested in the yaoi panels, but I am in some of the yuri ones but my friend and I were a bit reluctant to go because we were worried they'd be the kind of yuri fans that seems to have popped up in recent years (i.e., yuri is to keep them "pure" and untainted by dicks, platonic, non-sexual, barely romantic relationships).

I went last year. it wasn't very good IMO. The main girl mostly talked about:

1) she has big boobs and a lot of guys creep on her
2) she's going to South Korea really soon
3) she tells the audience "don't be creepy, be awesome"

At least that's all I got out of it. If the guys knew how to "be awesome" they wouldn't have trouble with girls. The guys need more specific advice.

Even though it will probably be a train wreck, I'm excited to see this new dating panel.

Brief summary of your process for making an episode (if your show is actually entertaining). Audience gets to suggest a one-liner for a background character, maybe actually record the line right at the panel (if it's a noisy crowd scene background noise shouldn't really matter?) and use it in the show.

>>what makes you want to walk out
Your show isn't funny, overly technical discussion, obscure references to fan-dubbing legalities or politics.

>> No.6847778

>>6847471
>>what you think makes a panel worth attending
People running it know and care about this shit, and didn't just sign up because 5 panels = refund for pass or pass for next year.
Audience get to participate in or contribute to discussion.
People learn things they couldn't have learned through a 5 second Google search.
You're prepared (it's true that with many panels, you can just go by the moment, but it really helps to be prepared for others).

>>what makes you want to walk out
You let the know-it-all weeaboo who makes his way to every panel ask question after question.
You use a lot of obscure references the audience won't get.
You're super serious.
You make your audience feel like they're at a lecture and not at a panel which is supposed to be fun.

Gropey's tutorial to the rescue!

I personally got my sealant from Malabar, which I would suggest going to if you're in the Toronto area.

Also note that you should either pick the powder or the spray, but not both together. They actually counteract each other (I made this mistake once, causes weird buildup) Gropey suggests using the spray over the powder.

I'd also suggest doing a trial run before the convention day. Facepaint and bodypaint application takes some practice, personally the first time I tried it it was embarassingly awful

I personally enjoy walkons, because if it's bad then it's short - as opposed to 2-3 minute long "make up a dance to this popular song" entries.

If you're going to do a walk on plan a good introduction to be read, and choose music that works with your costume / character. Also plan out 1-3 poses to do on stage during the walk on.

If the sound fits, and you do something interesting on stage (even if it's just a pose) then it will be a good walkon. Just walking across the stage is boring.

Hello Ms. McEvoy,

I noticed in the programming for this year there 9 My Little Pony-related panels, up from ~4 last year. While I acknowledge that western animation has (and historically has) a place at Anime North, approving 9 panels for the same western cartoon seems excessive. Is this simply due to a lack of interest in volunteering for anime-related panels?

US and Canadian dollars are two different currencies. While some people and places will accept USD, many will not because of security issues - most are not familiar enough with US bills to determine whether they're fakes or not.
If you are going to AN, you will likely need to purchase food, gas, etc., as well as stuff from nominoichi and AA and dealer's room.
Just get some Canadian money and save yourself a headache.
(PS: if you intend to use a credit or debit card to buy things like food, I would look at how much your bank charges for a) international transactions b) currency conversion. More often than not, it'll be cheaper to exchange some cash and use that instead)

Some (not all) places will take American money, but usually at a worse exchange rate than you'd get by using actual Canadian money. There are ATMs in the Congress Centre, but there's always a line for them and I think they have extra service fees. There are also a lot of bronies among AN staff who probably push all this MLP stuff into the schedule, too.

There's also Naru2U, but the less that is said about that con, the better.

Really. It's that bad. GAnime is awesome in comparison.

They are one of those cons that throws all their money at guests (who aren't even big names) and nothing on decent programming.

If you're over 17, good luck finding anyone there who is your age and not on staff.

A few years ago, they fucking SHUT THE WHOLE CON DOWN for a night because someone started a rumor that there was ecstasy in the water jugs and people were getting carted off in an ambulance (even though I found out that none of those people actually had any traces of it in their system). What's really pathetic is that anyone who knows anything at all about drugs would know that getting "unknowingly poisoned" by MDMA is impossible because you'd taste that shit. I guess when you're a sheltered weeaboo and all you know about drugs is what anti-drug propaganda bullshit groups taught them in middle school, it's kind of understandable. Not to mention the staff were not polite in handling the situation.

The year after, the con sucked (as usual), someone at the Q&A after the con complained that the con was too small and there was nothing to do, and the head of the con said "well, if you all invited your friends, it would have been better!".

You pay around the same amount as you do for AN for a weekend of just walking around and talking to people because there's fuck else to do.

If you're considering going to it, skip it and save to go to Anime North instead.

>> No.6855215

I think it was last year that the conventioneers got, mid-recording, shoved off that little grass hill and a black guy yelled at the camera "Yo, I'mma let you finish, but (some other webseries) is the best webseries of all time. All time!" Good times.

And for the newcomers, the summary info chant:
1) Canadian money. You're in Canada, you wouldn't take Canadian in the States beyond a penny (if that).

2) It's big-name and all, but it's not really a profit venture. If you want to change something, volunteer. They can always use some more volunteers (and panelists, too).

3) The weather report lies. It will be unbearably hot or miserably cold and rainy. "Moderate" weather like that promised this year does not exist. It hasn't for 6 years (really? Wow, I'm old).

4) Aspie, weeaboo, artfag, fujoshi, even casuals, we're all in this together. Don't be a dick because your particular brand of mental illness is slightly different from someone else's.

5) It is Anime North, but it has far surpassed that scope. There will be MLP panels. Twilight the book panels. There's LARPers, and Starcraft tournaments, and DDR, and 4chan panels, and Valve, and video game OSTs, and Les Miserables, and "Otaku weight loss panel"...

Oh, and... Resume building is apparently a panel now. Friday Doubletree 8pm. Resume building. Let that sink in for a bit.

In summary, Ponyfags are the least of the issues plaguing the panels. At least its animation. Though I'm kinda tempted to creep into the resume building one, just to see how bad it is.

I'm actually curious about whether the Twilight panel is going to be:
1) a full on fan panel for Twitards to gush on about how Twilight is so deep and meaningful and how they can relate to it so much because they're a special snowflake just like Bella is
or 2) a panel which goes bit by bit through Twilight to prove how it's nothing more than something 15-year-old girls can finger themselves to
If it's the first option, it could very well beat "how to get a bf/gf" in its trolling potential.
