My advice is be careful to watch the tones of your purples. Because right now from what I can see from the photos, you have the dress and blouse taking from a warmer, pinkish-purple lilac and sax, and your accessories/shoes look like a colder lavender. Switch at least one of your accessories for a warmer purple I would say, or maybe sax (the wristcuffs maybe).

>>6798830
I don't know about 'dark' but you could try doing a cream gothic coord... I'd say long sleeve blouse, a veiled headdress, tights and heeled shoes for starters, maybe lace gloves as well.

>>6798960
Coording mainly with black for obvious starters; for accent colors consider gold and bordeaux. Dark green would work well too, I think.

This is really cute! And I definitely know the difficulty of color matching IW... Since it's such a strange color, this is a weird idea, but have you considered matching your makeup to it? Maybe paint your nails that tan-mocha color, or use it for a tan/brown smoky eye or something like that. Or maybe if you're crafty, see if you can find some poplin or sateen, something in that color and make yourself a matching bow pin to put on your hat?

I think you need to match the browns a bit more, the lolita aesthetic is currently very matchy-matchy and the bag and shoes are entirely different browns to the dress, let alone each other. The shoes are tan, the bag is closer to the dress colour but it looks like a 'blue'/cool dark brown as opposed to a warm one (although that could be lighting, and the trim is white whereas that dress is very much ivory-beige which you've picked up on with the tights. It's fine to go for a contrasting brown but when none of them match it looks like you just chose the first brown things you could find. I'd either stick with tan or try and find warmer browns, possibly with some cream or even dusky pink.

Thanks for the help though, I'll keep the matching all your colours thing in mind.

>> No.6818855

I feel like it's more beige than anything - my rationale was that the only true brown in it is the bows and the lace on the bottom hem, thus having accessories/shoes in brown looks best pulling from the brown in the dress itself and would look a bit random (kinda like you went with the first brown thing you could find) without either the shoes and bag matching browns or them both matching to the dress. Aside from that, the other issue I had with the brown bag was that there was white trim with a beige dress. I find I demand more matchy matchy of collages compared to actual outfits though because you see all the items right up next to each other, so I guess it probably doesn't matter as much in an actual outfit and I'm just anal about matching.

>> No.6818919

I second the belt idea. You definitely want to age this dress up a little, so leave your legs bare and maybe forgo a hair accessory (unless it's a very simple, or a straw hat like the other anon suggested). I also wouldn't stray far from the established color palette; I added a little gray to sober it up, but other than that I'd stick to yellow for your accessories. Cute dress!

>> No.6819768

This looks really cute! Honestly, I wouldn't worry too much about matching that tan, but I really like the way you've tied it in with a straw hat. People often say that perfect matching is mandatory in lolita, but I feel like... it's not. If you get too close it just looks like you tried and missed, and if you put off wearing the dress until you find something that perfectly matches that shade the dress could be hanging in your closet a very long time. That taupey color is fairly common in handbags, so that's where I'd start looking if you really do want to match it. Good luck!

About to go to bed, so can't do a collage for you. Sorry, anon. But. Keep it semi-casual and shoot for classic. Play up the white with the blouse or bolero, and avoid anything with crosses. Maybe wear a Peter Pan collar with a bow died underneath? A white rose hair comb or corsage in a simple up-do or half up-do is also good with some wavey, loose curls. Keep it sleek, avoid big hair or heavy curls. A cute side bow would also work.

For shoes, avoid anything with buckles that doesn't look historical in nature. Ankle boots or mid-calf boots like IW would be really cute.

introduce a new color into the mix and repeat it in other accessories.

Depending on your coloring you can choose light or cornflower blue, celadon green, dusty rose.

Match your top, get printed tights that have the color you chose in it, match a hairbow.

Hell, you can even have a velvet sash made to order so you can switch it out for what color you feel like that day.

>>6822014

First, the blouse is sheer, so you'll need something under/over it. Second, that empire waist shirring is going to look funky on top of most lolita skirts, unless you're really lanky.

You can make it work by wearing a bustier or a corset over it to get a more figure-hugging shape, and if it's non lolita you could probably wear a tank top underneath with some jeans for a dressed-up-but-jeans-casual sort of look.

What? That's why you tuck your blouses...into your skirts...

>> No.6822047

This style of blouse has a lot more fabric under the bust than a princess-seamed blouse, you can see how it doesn't follow the body contour, but falls loosely around the mannequin's torso. So when you try to tuck it into your skirt, the excess fabric will become a fabric balloon between the shirring and where it's tucked into your skirt.

>> No.6822048

>>6822047

Doesn't the blouse still balloon a little when you shrug or something (since moving your shoulder increases the distance between your shoulder and your waist where it's tucked in, I expect the fabric to slip out and still do at least a slight balloon).

By the way, I did suggest bustiers, corsets and wearing it over jeans/pants in >>6822035

Can anyone help me with colour schemes? I have a pretty plain mint skirt with white detailing and I have no idea how to plan other colours into the outfit. I normally wear gothic or heavily printed pieces so I know how to bring the colours and textures out in them. Colour is a new thing for me. So if anyone has any ideas of maybe another colour that would work with mint and white or, generally how to balance the outfit a little better, that'd be amazing. I plan on wearing the skirt with a mint fur capelet by the way.

>> No.6823899

>>6822686
There's a few ways to go with adding colour, you can add colour just in the accessories; you can add another colour into the coord and make it mint X white X other colour, or make it mint X other colour keeping the white relevant by having it as a trim in some of the accessories. Other pastels are nice with mint, such as lilac and pink, so for example a pink blouse, white tights, mint shoes and cape, and pink and white floral hair clips would work with the skirt.

Wow, gorgeous blouse! My biggest piece of advice is a high-waist skirt. And the blouse definitely isn't too plain; there's loads of visual interest from the pleating alone, blue the bow and ruffled neckline. You can, but I don't think you have to. MM's stock photos show it with one, but VM and Meta both have a fair few similar dresses that are intended to be wearable without a blouse. I would wear it with sheer tights, maybe lace wristgloves, and a straw hat or marine-stripe bows. Especially since it's for sailor, where you do traditionally have a little more leeway for no blouse due to being a summery style.

If you do wear a blouse, I think a high neck would work best with that collar and I would not use one with puff sleeves, as it looks like the collar would flatten them (same as with a peter pan collar). Cap sleeves especially might work well.

Aww, that's my dream print haha. I'm also not as fond of the JSK, great catch though! Do you mind if I ask if you got it from Japanese secondhand or a western sale?

My coordinating plans have been for the black skirt mostly, but off the top of my head I would use an ivory longsleeved georgette or chiffon blouse or something like that- not a very sheer one, but floaty with just a slight bit of sheerness to it. I think ivory slightly sheer (low den) tights, maybe with a long rib/stripe pattern down them would go nicely too, and matte gold shoes. For the hair I like the classic look of a gothic headdress, so if you can find an ivory one with gold accents I think that'd work perfectly. And gold jewelry, of course.
As for different accent colors- ruby/bordeaux would be perfect.

you can do plain white tights or ones in one of the pastel tones of the print. my advice for you on coording is to look at the major item (a skirt, dress, etc) you're working with and look at the colors in the print (if applicable).
those shoes and the bracelet really read too clunky and out of place with the super sweet print. if you're dedicated to making it punk, i would look for spiked bracelets and things in a pastel tone. that black necklace will not be seen against the dress or the blouse you plan to wear (and that i would switch to match one of the major pastels, same as your tights), and generally random romanized japanese words read as very "weeb". the shoes... this is going to be offensive, but they look very clunky and i think the effect with the kid-style salopette will make you look retarded. strangely, i like the hat, but a hat like that is not lolita. your coord overall would be closer to fairy kei (as salopettes are understood to be closer to, overall) or spank or deco or whatever the kids call it these days. the wig is a natural color and styled to look like real hair, so it doesn't go with the overall candy-sweet appearance of the rest of the outfit.

>> No.6829664

Just any tights that are currently "fashionable" that aren't painted/classic-looking.
If you're going for an edgier, street fashion, sweet look, go for something with a geometric or symmetrical pattern, ie: stipes, zig-zags, polka dots, "garter" tights, cross-bone printed. I would say something that has a black base, at least.

I just don't like those hats overall, but it's a personal preference more than anything. I'd go for a head-band. Maybe a spiked one to reiterate the ones on the bracelet.

Oh might as well post this.

I have this dress and I have one (very basic, might I add) coord for it, but I'm kinda blanking on creative alternatives. Yes, that makes sense. I'll keep my eye out for sage accessories. That really isn't a common color in lolita, but maybe I could find something on etsy. I've also dyed tights before so I could do that.

Hey, I have a question about tights that I don't think warrants its own thread, but I'd appreciate your advice just the same. I love patterned tights like >>6841483 and I feel like they would go well with my current wardrobe. However, my legs are disproportionately thick and muscled compared to the rest of my body (pic somewhat related.) Usually I try to minimize this by wearing plain colored tights. Is there any way I might be able to incorporate patterned tights in to my wardrobe without looking like a fat mess, or should I avoid them all together?

Modcloth occasionally gets printed tights in plus sizes, I think they have a Victorian woodcut-themed print now. SockDreams has a decent selection, but you'll want to read their sizing information carefully. You might also check out Foot Traffic, although I'd avoid them unless you're well within their recommended measurements. The prints fade and distort very easily unless you have plenty of wiggle room.

Speaking of printed tights, have a collage with printed tights.

It depends on the coord, like how much the blouse looks like it was made to keep cold weather out (in addition to long sleeves, if it was high necked, made of thick/warm material, and so on) and what else you throw on. If the blouse was a breezy chiffon or gauze material with a normal neckline and the rest of your styling looks summer-ish (eg- beach hat or hair done up, lack of gloves/boots, dress not too heavy/thick, etc) then it should look okay.

Heeeellllp me, seagulls! I am so stuck it is not even funny with this. My basic idea was that I wanted to build a coord based on the shoes, which are on their way to me as we speak. Unfortunately, the apartment jsk is the only white jsk I have. I realize the whites look very different but I keep hoping beyond hope that the stock pictures are off and that they are closer IRL. The jsk does feel sliiiightly more "yellow" IRL, but I'm probably just kidding myself with this. Most of the items in the picture are stand-ins for what I actually own: my studded bracelet, boater hat and short-sleeved cardigan look slightly different, but it's the same basic concept. I'm probably gonna ditch the boater hat, I want to keep a punky feel throughout the coord and I think the spiked headband might help with that.

I don't know, I'd just like some input I guess. It's my first real attempt at a coord, so I apologize if it seems ita as hell. I am learning. If you could direct me to a nice looking jsk in the same shade as the shoes, that would make me super happy as well.

The gold in the spiked bracelet and innocent world bag(?) are throwing it off, trying using silver instead, it would go much better with the jsk and the silver on headband and shoes.

Thanks, anon! The bracelet I own is more of a silver color than the one pictured, so that's not a problem. The details on the IW book bag are actually tan(a much cooler shade than in the image), and I was hoping it wouldn't be too far off from the color of the wedges. I think the wedges are lighter though, so I'll just ditch the bag if it doesn't fit. I agree with you on the tights, I kind of feel like solid black tights is a little "heavy", but I'm not sure what to do about it either. What do you usually wear with your shoes, and are they as amazing as I am hoping they are?

also, this is the only pic i saw of them worn, they seem to be printed to have a lot of paleness in them as well as white space. I think the dress works with them because the patterned area doesn't visually stop where the tights do like wearing solid colors with them might. some patterns or larger repeating designs might be okay if they were a bit pale/faded. I listed pink, orange, red, brown, sage and gold as colors that I thought could be pulled out of them last post, although looking closer I see a lot of pinks/lavender-lilac and some yellow-greens.

White shirt with a red tie?

>> No.6864331

I would suggest that his outfit be mostly black and white with red accents. The accents depend on what "style" of aristocrat he dresses. (IE some people have a very j-rock influence or look like they walked straight out of Godchild, some are more historical, more masculine, androgynous, etc.). So what accents you guys choose depend on what overall look he's going for.

Try and sneak in as much red as possible since, like you said, too much of the shade would be overpowering. Some possible suggestions:

-Men's jewelry/accessories with ruby-colored rhinestones.
-Put a red rose on his hat if he has one.
-A jabot with a red stone/rose as an accent
-Get a menswear-inspired bag that has a red accent. AatP's briefcase-ish Masquerade letters bag is a good example of this. The lining is red and the bag has a charm with a red rose on it.

Thank you anon, that really helps. He's into a more masculine historical, but wears Alchemy Gothic jewelry. Do you think a red cravat with a ruby pin would work with a black shirt? He'll probably be wearing a black Rolando anyway so you won't see much of his shirt. I'll try and work round him really, I usually have a vintage feel to my outfit when I wear this and that will look an odd juxtaposition. So, red cravat/jabot, ruby pin and cufflinks and... well he has his ear pierced so maybe a ruby earring? I don't want him to look silly is all ha

I own the same jsk. Though I've only worn it out once sofar, one time toned down and another with a full coord. I've coordinated it with pink and mint so far. I'd like to do something with sax later on, but there's only a bit of blue in the kitty's eyes. IMO pink looks the best and contrasts well against the mint. As far as accessories goes, the dress and headbow has a lot of pearls. I like wearing a pink pearl necklace and something smaller with a little gold in it since the print contains some gold detailing. For socks, I think anything with cute bows or lace details would look really cute!

Trying to plan an outfit for an upcoming convention. Not sure how over the top I want to go with it just yet, but know I want to wear this new print. Also not sure if the brown in the print will match the brown I already have for some items. If it does, I have another set of options for shoes, blouse and headwear.

I fully admit I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing and put myself upon the mercy of the loli gods to teach me the way of the coord.

Also, I'm having trouble finding a bag to go with this.

I like the bottom right coordinate. I think boots would go better with this dress. The other one is ok, but this dress isn't super princessy so the sandals and the bell sleeves just don't go. The choker you're using for the bottom two is really cute, though.

I'm not 100% convinced that it would look ok with black, but I'll figure that out when mine gets here.

I figured black might work because the photos make the dark, polka dot part look like it's black, or close to it. Also, the cats themselves are black in that version of the print.

I guess it'll be easier to tell when it gets here and I can try everything on together, though. For all I know, what I see as black on my screen is actually just another, darker shade of green.

Here's my coord. I'm still working on it and it's far from OTT, but I've slowly been building up jewelry and looking for a headpiece. I'm waiting on the VM replica boots from clobba for this coord, but I'm definitely keeping the blouse and stockings.

Oh my, it's been a while since I posted that.

I honestly don't remember at this point, but it was a designer bag around of 200-300 USD. I had just used it as an example for the kind of bag I was looking for. Sorry

...do what's in your pic and wear the apron with a skirt and blouse instead of a dress?

>>6878474
I think you need to decide which colour you're making your accent. The blue in alice's dress, the pink of the roses, the red of the trumps... pick one and go from there! I personally really love the boots you picked, because of the pink and bordeaux blend that picks up both the reds, but your blue shoes also work well.

Also I feel like your dress is off white but your blouse is white which looks a little clashy. You've picked up on the off white in your tights though, which looks good!

Aw, that's a shame. I think it's stunning!

When I saw your pic I immediately thought of this style of bag!
Also, aspects of the design are kind of similar - she's matched brown bag and shoes to each other and her wig (although that could be a touch darker imho) and then picked red as her accent colour in her neckbow and wrist cuffs. You could do something similar with yours!

Yeah. I need to get on the group order from Clooba for the large size shoes since I run about a US10. It's still only at 18/80 though, so it'll be a while. Yes, the dress is an odd white/cream color. Sadly the blouse is the only thing I had to coord with it at the time. I want to find something in a similar style, but in more of a cream color. I'm hunting around at different thrift shops first.

I'm looking at bags, and I don't know why it didn't cross my mind to look at clobba's bags. I'm wondering if the cream or red alice book would work? I feel if I went with the boots, I should go with the cream so my boots and bag don't clash. Did find a couple other possible bags, but I just don't know about the red in them. Not to mention the quality of them. I did however find these shoes at a G-Stage yesterday. I figured they'd be a good candidate if I wasn't feeling up to wearing heels.
