Does anyone have this dress in gre? I'm looking to buy it for my first coord but I saw another picture somewhere where it looked a LOT more green. If the color isn't accurate I'll just get the blue, but I liked the lighter color (if it's accurate).

For your first coord, you're probably better off going with something that isn't so busy, preferably a plain-colour jsk or op. It'll be much easier to coordinate it with different colours and ease yourself into coordinating and getting an eye for what goes well with what.

What exactly draws you to this dress in particular?
I mean, if you like it, go for it - it'll be a challenge to coord, though, and I don't think it's a versatile enough starter piece. But I'm wondering what you see in this dress in particular. Never come across anyone who owns it/even likes it, so sorry I can't answer your question about the color!

I just think something about the print is really cute; I love all the little details like the keys and the violins.

As for a coord I was going to keep it really simple aside from the jsk; I was thinking about getting a black and white polkadot headbow to go with the black and white on the print and then plain white tights (although I am keeping an eye out for something that'd work better) and simple black shoes with a short sleeved blouse (lower collar than the one in the picture though because I live where it's brutally hot in the summer) and then some music or key themed jewelry to go with the print.

I'd love to incorporate some of that tan somehow too but I couldn't think of anything.

Also I'll look into other jsks for my starter piece just in case--thank you all for the suggestions!

The things about the painting dress trend is that it's really hard to fuck up. Old paintings+dress= painting dress. It's easy, it requires no skill beyond lurking through creative commons.

but bodyline?

i wouldn't do a polka dot headdress. there's nothing in the print that screams polka dot so it'll look mismatched. you're better off sticking with a head dress in either solid white or black, or one that matches the dominant blue or green color in the print, like the model is wearing.

>> No.6822873

It's because it doesn't look like an actual old painting so much as just a bunch of random baroque clipart. the most obvious sign is the very apparent repeat of the cherubs on the main front of the bust and the skirt.

As far as the headbow goes, I think I would try to find a plain sax or mint headbow(depending on which color you decide) and then maybe get some kind of smaller polkadot accessory other than that such as a smaller bow pin or maybe encorporate it into the necklace, something like that. I'm not so sure where tan would fit in tho except maybe the shoes, but I would opt for gold if that was the case. Key jewelry sounds good and like I said perhaps encorporate a polkadotted bow on the necklace. Other than that I haven't seen it but I sort of like the pink more. It looks much nicer and more toned down.

Sexy cosplay shop. That lingerie section they have is a holdover from those days and use to be their staple of sales. They started producing maid costumes as part of that, then added really shitty, fetish-level lolita to appeal to a wider audience. Ironically, they didn't start doing more than one or two actual costumes from anime until more recently.

I have this in lavender and would recommend it, although the fabric is heavier than I expected, particularly around the bottom, so it needs a serious petticoat or multipettis.
I've even washed it in my washing machine and it was completely unscathed.

My friend used to own it. It's surprisingly cumbersome to wear because of how you have to fasten it on you (buttons are functional, but kind of awkward since the panel is partially attached to the bodice...hopefully that makes sense). I was in Harajuku last week and hit up Bodyline and Closet Child... gotta say, as a newbie lolita it was a bit weird. "Burando" is supposed to be the holy grail, and bodyline is supposed to suck.... but a lot of the brand stuff at CC was surprisingly low quality. CC also carried FanPlusFriend pettis and another off-brand new. I looked at the Innocent World and some other non-AP/BtSSB but burando pettis.... ended up buying the random off-brand because the brand ones were such shit. They were the exact same price, so I wasn't just being cheap.

Seriously, "brand" dresses seem to be about on par with JCPenny quality clothing... I was pretty disappointed. The print and style was all that set them apart.

And BodyLine had some hideous designs, but the quality was exactly the same as the brand stuff to my touch at least. The only difference was that they had like, literally thousands of dresses and only 1 of each on the shelves. So of course you've got the bad and the good when there's so much.

Reeeeaaaaaaaaalllyyyyy tempted to get that new bodyline dress with the wine velvet bolero. Loads of people are saying they hate the dress, but I actually really like it. Wish I could see some worn pictures.

>> No.6826818

Well, most people knows that brand pettis are bad fir their price, and that offbrand pettis often gives better poof, so no news

But seriously, do you even know the difference between nice fabrics and not? Which brand dresses dud you feel? Because I have owned dresses from Bodyline, AP, Baby, IW and ETC and the fabric difference is big between all of them. Bodyline uses a cheaper cotton, that is very stiff, and that's why it gets easily wrinkled abd sometimes look very boxy. Brand dresses all uses better cotton, which makes the dresses have a much better shape. So yeah it's definitely so that brand have higher quality.

I have this in pink. I love the bodice and the bow at the waist. There is little heart shaped lace on the bodice that I love. I'm not a fan of the bottom lace. If I don't sell the dress, I will change it. It's soft but cheap looking. This dress is made of a lightweight, easy-to-wrinkle cotton, so it definitely needs a good ironing. I'm also considering removing the tulle layer because it feels like a little much. Princess Peachie owns it in pink as well and wears it in one of her videos. I'll post the pics I was intending to use in a review (but never got around to) as well as other pics I found.

questions about the antique clock OP....does the "gry" stand for the grey colorway? i only ask because there's also a "gre" (which i'm assuming is the green colorway) and the colors aren't marked on the photo...pic related.

also how's the fit on this? i missed out on the skirt version and i love this print. i have a 94cm bust and want to make sure it's not going to look totally dumb on me with the way the bodice is gathered.

>> No.6841747

>>6838403
I've altered bodyline stuff but not in that way. I've had to shorten JSKs from the waist, because I'm pretty short (5"0) and have a short torso, so before altering, the JSKs hit mid calf.

Their construction isn't too complicated though, so it shouldn't be too hard to alter in the way you want to. The waist ties are attached to the bodice, so you'll have to seam-rip the bodice from the inside, but it shouldn't be too hard to resew.

>> No.6841769

>>6841697
Yes, gry is grey.
Wish I could tell you more about the fit - from what I've seen, it's one of the more popular bodyline pieces, and it seems on the nicer end of things - the torso is fully shirred, though, and might look weird.
I just ordered one for me a few days ago, hopefully it comes soon and I can report back my findings.

90cm bust, 70cm waist, 5'7" here, and it looks like this.

It's roomy enough to pull down over my hips and I've seen gals with larger busts look great in it. You must define the waist though, or you'll get lost in the full shirring. Use the detachable bow, a ribbon, I've seen a lot of great belted coords too.

I was actually going to use http://www.bodyline.co.jp/bodyline/showProduct.asp?id=4594&pageNumber=1&pageStop=stop_10&noSubType=N for this. I am going to use a seam ripper to release the straps, close that back up, seam rip the top of the heel to separate it and insert loops (cut from the straps) and stitch in place, and kinda go from there. It takes a metal thimble, strong needles, a sharp blade, and WD-40 (spray your needle before you stitch, it glides right through) but you can definitely do surgery on those shoes.

It just depends on what colour is the strongest with what you own. Honestly, if you're just starting, I'd go with the cream or the pink. I own this OP and have a 94cm bust.

The fit of it is fine, thankfully it doesn't fully stretch out the bust of it and look stupid but as others have commented, you definitely need something to separate the bodice from the skirt. I've tried it with a thick elastic waist belt and it looks okay, as without it it looks bulky and shapeless on my waist.

Seems to depend on the shoe. I had their heart buckle replicas ages ago, and the straps broke after a couple of months of light wear.
On the other hand, I have a pair of clunky platformy shoes and I swear they're made of reinforced concrete, they've been in the wars and they're still in good nick.

>> No.6845848

>>6845756
I wear mine until they... Well, none of them have fallen apart yet, and they are subjected to decidedly reckless and frequent wear.

Worst damage was that the rubber bottom of one of the chunky heels began to separate from the shoe at the toe after a day walking at a con (if you can call my version of bipedal locomotion "walking", I am accident prone and not graceful) but it was more from stubbing into escalator steps and sidewalks than natural wear and tear. Fixed with rubber cement and never had another problem.

They do scuff, but if it's not deep, my shoe guy can buff them right out. For PU shoes, and the prices when they go on sale, they are worth it.

>> No.6845853

>>6845848
Not that anon, but you can buff the scuffs yourself at home with a little fingernail polish remover if they're not too bad.
