I have a friend who was shut out from the local group because she didn't want to be a camp follower.

And (you probably know this, but) reenactors don't just 'go to a con', there's usually a big meet that reenacts everything around the combat too- so all you get to do that weekend is play fuckin' tent-house instead of having fun 'shooting' people and being a trooper, etc. Fun stuff.

So yeah, she doesn't do reenactment at all anymore. :(

Because, much of the critique aimed at females wearing revealing clothes in cosplay comes from the fact that they frustratingly often don't cosplay those characters because they like them or the source material they come from. Instead, they cosplay them for att-- I mean, because they like the character design / costume / that incredibly interesting material it's made off / whatever.

When men cosplay for att-- due to liking the costume design instead of liking the source, other men have no reason to criticize them because:
a) no one listens to their critique (the guys don't usually cosplay because they want attention from other guys);
b) they have often good reason not to criticize, for they would face ridicule from the more dominant male;
c) they don't want to criticize, in case they would ever do the same thing (and, let's face it, deep down it's almost always this, since even the males who like the characters they cosplaying and know them are ultimately only cosplaying for pussy).

So, since there's little next to none critique that matters from men, the ones who have to criticize attention whoring men are women.

But, as you say, these men are not criticized very much.

Therefore, you can conclude that women are much more liberal and tolerant and superior, and they don't care about such petty things as knowing the character as long as the guy looks good.

Additionally, any guy who makes a point to show up at a con just to take off his shirt and get girls to fawn over him is seen as a douchebag, much in the way that sexy cosplaying girls who walk around in their underwear are seen as attention whores.

However, when it comes to shirtless male characters, guys who cosplay them do not have to go out of their way to make a 'sexy' version, in most cases. If they do alter the costume or design in some way to show off their body, then see the above point. Douche bags. Most don't like them.

You simply don't see a lot of men at every con who take female characters, make a genderbent or "GUY!<name>" version that is pretty much just a wig and a pair of underwear. Women, however, do this often enough for it to be considered a common occurrence. This is also seen as lazy, in poor taste, and general acts as a great way to advertise you're not a great or creative person who generally needs attention to feel special.

A lot of the time, if a woman wants to cosplay a female character she really likes from a game/comic/anime/typical nerdy story, it entails putting on something really skimpy. It's impossible to just be fan and want to recreate something you love. If you put together an accurate cosplay of someone like Yoko or Power Girl, for instance, everyone just assumes you're doing it "for the attention." No WAY someone could just like that character, RIGHT? It's such horseshit.

Even if his character was true to the books, I don't see why he'd have any fangirls fawning over him. His main sources of appeal are:

In the show, the appeal mostly goes through to only people who read the book and perhaps people who can appreciate Stephen Dillane's stellar acting (best in the series right alongside Charles Dance but it's not as obvious because he has to deal with the shit the writers throw at him every now and then, like making Stannis beg for a pity fuck from Melly Sanders and so on).

For women, he mostly represents everything they hate:

See, this is one of the main problems. The 'whatever' tests in question are 'lowered' tests. The maximum for PE tests for women == minimum for men to pass.

Note that I am not against women serving in the military, but I am certainly against people like you, who have no experience or knowledge about the subject they're talking about, making such bold statements about the subject because MUH FEELINGS.

At its core, having women in military is a "equality of opportunity (women who are capable can join) vs equality of outcome (women who want must be able to join!! or else!!!)" question.

The problem is that if we just used the first approach when it comes to female military service, only about ~single_digit% of women could pass the necessary requirements and join the army. It's not really worth changing the infrastructure to appease the needs of another gender if it nets a 1% increase in troop capacity.

So, we have to lower the standards, but with that we also have to lower the outcome... and then you cry about the horrible, horrible inequality and discrimination in army. And hence -> give me the same outcome everyone else gets, even though I'm not as capable as them!

I think that there's two different things we should differentiate between:

Wearing a correct outfit which is skimpy.
Taking a non-skimpy outfit and making it skimpy (pic related).
