This is why you should always try to get sample pieces first. Also good cause then if it is good, you could always take it with you to other locations and see if you can find something similar or the same material at a cheaper price.

I just had a costumed damaged.

I've always been wary as hell about lending stuff out that I immediately say no but occasionally if it's my boyfriend or someone close I'll say ok with the caveat that they take special care with it.

Every fucking time something gets damaged. Wig came back tangled as hell and now no longer looks how it did when purchased even though I was the one who had to detangle it and not them.
Now my favorite costume's zipper is fucked cause they busted the teeth on it.
I'd be ok with replacing the zipper but this shit is vinyl and holes in it are permanent.

I don't want to be a hard ass bitch and just say no to ever lending again but damn it, quit fucking up my hard work when I let you have it.

A bit upset I wasted my money on the first black and gray, but this fur is so goddamn soft I just want to cover my whole bed in it and wear it every day. And I'm so mad I spent about 4-5 hours out that day when I expected everything to be easy to find. I was really frustrated by the time I found my fur. Going back out today to look for the gold paint because I can't progress on my cosplay until I have it. As for the bra, I think I'll just go Precious mode and sculpt tits out of foam, and sew them onto my bra.

DUUUUUUDE. I know this is a free country and you can cosplay who-the-fuck-ever you want but it really irritates me when fangirls of the series drool over you and say nobody can cosplay as character X now that you've cosplayed as them "so perfectly" when you haven't even watched/read the series and you picked the character/series only because it's super popular now. I seriously don't know how you can keep doing this; if the character is completely indifferent to you what do you get from cosplaying as them? Attention? That you certainly do but that doesn't lead very far.

Also, get out of my fandoms. You don't deserve the praise you get for being "the best character X" if you couldn't care less about the character you're cosplaying as. Depends very much on the convention. Generally I think at least the bigger conventions have calmed down and are much more orderly than what cons used to be here. As for snobby elitists I don't think they go to conventions because it'd mean they'd have to leave their room. Touhou was a big hit a few years ago but it's quieted down. It's still popular though.

I think asking for fabric suggestions is really simple and understandable. Asking for entire costume tutorials is not. Photo tutorials mean slowing down your construction process to document each and every step, not to mention the time spent on the write-up. If you're asked after the costume is already finished, the writeup may be difficult to explain without photos. Tutorials are a privilege, not a right, and a lot of people do absolutely no footwork of their own (even basic google-fu) before asking experienced cosplayers to hand everything to them on a silver platter.

I wanted to hit someone when I saw those pictures of his Sinbad cosplay; he looks like a dead fish in every single one of them and it is obvious that he doesn't care about the character at all. Magi is one of my favourite series and it really, really irritates me that he chose it just because it's somewhat popular now and because his girlfriend cosplayed as a character who people ship with Sinbad. I was rather disappointed in his costume; so far his cosplays have been somewhat quality but this? He made all the jewellery, turban feathers (!!) & sword from the same plastic material. He didn't put any makeup on and even skipped Sinbad's trademark eyebrows. And instead of Arabian slippers he used regular leather shoes.

Please, please, get out of my fandoms and stop using my dear characters as excuses to get more attention.

But speaking of bandwagons, there's this one girl who suddenly gains interest in series as soon as the people she sucks up to like it. She even hypes those series to hell and back and when asked about them her reply is just "oh I haven't read/watched/played it yet". Really? I get gaining interest in series after seeing other people talk about it, but at least spend some time actually getting known to them before claiming to be a fan.

Thank you so much! And don't lose courage. I have found that if you work hard on your outfit and do everything you can to make it look nice then enough people will come up and ask who you are. The cool thing about FiM is that the characters tend to look like the ones from other gens (and a lot of them are based off of the older ones) so if people call you by the wrong name, it gives you a chance to correct them and possibly start an informational conversation. I've made many new friends that way. Gen recognition is something that needs to be spread.

There's one guy I know who makes shitty cosplays but is constantly pandering for attention. He picked a character purposely that he thinks is so under cosplayed so he makes these rants about he's the only good and official one of the West Coast. Get real.

He's also the same guy who doesn't know what personal space is. He's been obsessed with my best friend for years though she tells him to fuck off and he tries to get buddy-buddy with her dates. He's also done this with his more recent obsessions. This guy can be found asking for a ride and constantly inviting himself to events despite that no one wants him there. He just wants to make out with all the cosplayers.

I'm frustrated because while he's only been half the creeper to me than with my other friends, he often credits me for introducing him to animu and mango and cosplay. Fml.

Unfortunately, targetting certain areas to lose the fat there just won't work, when you lose weight, you lose it all over your body. It's just genetics, you can naturally have a small waist and big butt or not, only plastic surgery can change it. Weight loss will only go so far, and most people who start as overweight often end up plateauing, but seriously, keep it up and you'll be very happy with yourself. I don't remember who it was, but there was a Hinata cosplayer (who also does makeup and hair product reviews on YouTube, in case they sound familiar to anyone else) and they said it cuts out 40% of your vision. They gave example pictures, and to me it looks like the same example I would give for what I see with and without glasses.

So if any of you guys have experience with extremely shitty eyesight, they're manageable, but don't walk around alone and be aware of your surroundings.

Any reasonable individual, upon hearing what happened between you two, will think poorly of him, not of you. A teenage couple having sex is normal. A guy letting one of his friends touch his girlfriend without her permission is not normal. If he talks shit about you, just explain what actually happened. The few people who may look down on you for it are shitty people who aren't worth associating with in the first place. As for the not-finding-a-boyfriend piece, trust me, even if it makes things awkward for the next year or two (although it probably won't), shit will be a-okay once you get into college. To be frank, nearly all high-school relationships are destined to fail regardless - it's the learning-the-ropes-of-relationships<wbr> phase, and god knows we all had one or two that we weren't proud of (protip for any youngins out there; if she cuts herself in front of you, ABORT).

Anyway, to get back onto the cosplay-vent thing, I sometimes don't even know why I cosplay. I mean, I love making armor and props and whatnot, but it seems like every cosplay group I encounter is either swarming with weeaboos or made up of petty fucks. As someone who has been cosplaying for 15 yrs, yes they are hard to find. People hide their crazy until it's too late to politely excuse yourself or they put the crazy on display like it makes them special.
WTF is it about these hobby that brings out the socially inept weirdos?

You do meet normal people who have jobs, other hobbies, significant others, common sense, good hygiene, a sense or humor, that are not drama queens every once in a while.

My local cosplay community is becoming awful.

There's too many attention whores digging for popularity and it's making everyone overly competitive over nothing. Everyone's splintering into these little groups where they feel the need to give themselves fancy names and self-market, and half the time their costumes aren't even that impressive, it's just vain chicks who have tolerant man-candy to help them and are friends with good photographers or "popular" cosplayers they can name-drop.

There's way too many events and most of them are cookie-cutter and mediocre because every idiot thinks they can run their own event or con. And dozens and dozens of our cosplayers still feel the need to go to EVERY. SINGLE. ONE OF THEM because it's an excuse to get cameras shoved in their face. It's like they can't ever say no or learn to budget their finances. Fuck, I've seen local cosplayers screw up their lives because they chose to live outside their means and LULZ DO ALL OF THE CONS PARTY EVERYDAY, and are still planning cons and still pretending to be super-popular even though they're in debt, in the red and forced to move into family members' basements because their HOBBY keeps them from paying living expenses like food, rent and bills.

We've got some really persistent creepers who've stuck around for years because people are willing to play whiteknight for the ego trip that comes with a "devil's advocate" routine. There's some shitty cosplay charity groups that raise meager, minimal amounts and the actual charity part is just a pretense to get into cons for free. And in general, all but one or two of the genuinely popular cosplayers our community has produced have been huge assholes.

The ironic part being, my community is known for being "omg so nice~"

I probably just described about 90% of the communities in North America, but whatever.
