So what is every ones thoughts on the recent hype of " cosplay=/=consent"

I agree with the message, but it's counterproductive when cosplayers get on video with "high-rep" youtubers and let them motorboat their tits.

Good and bad. Good because it might knock some sense into stupid guys and bad because stupid girls don't seem to understand that they can and will be subject to looks and comments they don't like when they're dressed in skintight or very revealing costumes.

Agreed... I think it's putting out the wrong message that people shouldn't even look at you without asking or something...

The point is to not be an animal and paw or catcall people, I mean, that should just be common fucking sense and putting on a leotard with a push up bra shouldn't make people forget common sense.

Don't fucking touch/fondle/grab/manhandle people no matter what they're wearing.

But if you're walking around and you see someone eyeing your legs or ass that your costume shows off, and that offends you, I don't know how to help you, you can't control every aspect of how a person is going to react upon seeing you in any kind of outfit. I would just hope groping and cat calling offensive shit should already be on the No list...

Problem is most the ones that scream this are actually just harassing and butt hurt. There is a convention I am no longer going to just for this reason. A guy grabbed my butt first year and said I wanted it cause I was in my rave outfit. No I did not, secuirty got after him over it. He then starts harassing me on Facebook till I blocked him then went after my frirnds calling me a slut. Last year later I run into the same guy at awa this year. What does he do grab my butt again. we need a creeper list to add names to. Lets start with Hugh Moses. Indont know his home state or town.

>> No.6783711

Unfortunately we live in a culture where it is considered okay for a woman to accuse a man of attempted sexual misconduct if she ever feels afraid or uncomfortable for any reason in a social situation. This means that if you're fujoshi nerd who decides to go to a con in a bikini cosplay and men approach you and you don't know how to react, it's perfectly okay to call them "creepers" and pretend they violated your civil rights. Even though nothing happened other than social awkwardness.

Women at conventions deserve respect, but so do men. Stop trying to go to war against all things male and pretending your a victim.

It honestly feels like a bunch of 3rd wave Feminist "Womyn", tumblr SJWs, and other insufferable douche clowns are trying to hi-jack the community for their own ends.

I'm not about to claim that no one has ever been raped because of their cosplay, nor will I say that female cosplayers don't have to deal with a ton of shit just for being in costume, but the frequency with which these things happen is a lot smaller than these little movements are making it seem.

Even still, it's not about cosplay. A rapist is still a rapist regardless of what the girl was wearing. I'll always support the notion that you blame the rapist and teach people not to rape, as opposed to creating some bullshit dialog about consent.

It's so strange for these people to even come into cosplay and gaming communities and spread this shit around. Show of hands; who here is okay with rape? No one? REALLY?! What a surprise. You can stop yelling at us and go do something more constructive with your time now. No one is arguing against you are trying to refute your point. You can talk a little softer, because I'd honestly rather not have every con and cosplay gathering be turned into a sexual activism seminar about how my evil penis should be kept in check at all times.

I've had my junk grabbed at cons and it was terrible, but it's not a moral epidemic. It's not something that I feel requires me or anyone else to get up on a soapbox and decry. We're all pretty much aware that these things are terrible things to do to people and we all universally agree that the people who do these things are terrible individuals.

In previous discussions about the subject, I've brought up the point that when you say "rape" to the average person, they immediately think of violent, forceful, completely, 100% unwilling sexual intercourse. Nothing strange about that notion..

However, when these sort of tumblr-ites talk about rape, they actually have a rather broad definition of it that can range from mutually inebriated sex, post coital regret, inappropriate touching or kissing, almost having sex, or even martial sex where the woman just wasn't all that into it at the time.

It quickly becomes a case of 'the girl who cried rape'. They use the term the way 10 year olds on xbox live use "fucking your mother". They rob the word of meaning and they muddle their point by confusing the actual issue.

Where they should be talking about personal space and poor social skills, they are purposefully confusing things by making it sound like it's an epidemic of violent sexual assault.

I'm saying that you need to stop claiming that you were molested and stalked when you know damn well you're exaggerated and nothing of the sort happened. And even if that DID happen you should contact the police and not go on an internet intolerance campaign against all men who go to anime cons.

Maybe we should host some seminars about what acceptable human interaction is before all else, non-gender-exclusive.

There's a limit to how socially retarded you can be, which is starting to make me wonder if some people aren't just willfully ignoring everything that goes on around them. I'm an autist and even I know that you shouldn't just walk up to people and be like "hey u want sum fuk".

Or, let's just be honest here, for stupid fucking faggots to turn cons into drug-ridden rave culture shitholes for high schoolers to overdose on illegal substances.

I've got nothing wrong with a little partying, but it really seems like there's always some group of faggots at every con who thinks the whole event was put together so they'd have a place to act like irresponsible idiots while dragging a bunch of strangers who don't know any better into their dumb behavior.

The point to this rant, though, is that far too many con-goers have the idea in their head that the con exists as a safe, accepting place of their bad behavior. Like, cons are there for them to be wild party animals and ogle all the women they please and treat other human beings like shit because "WOOO ANIME CON!".

Broaden the topic, for fuck's sake. It's not an issue of rape. It's an issue of not letting stupid faggots know that their bad behavior is still not acceptable, even amongst other nerds and geeks and weeaboos.

It's flat out STUPID.
Unless someone has seriously tried to attempt raping or sexually assaulting someone in cosplay, this hurhurr consent ramblings are bullshit.
Someone staring at someone else for wearing a skimpy outfit in public is not assault or rape.
Someone making a passing comment is not assault.

And I'm sorry but people are just gonna have to suck up and deal with the fact that when you wear something at a public gathering like a convention, you will most likely have your picture taken regardless if you consent it or not. If you're so damn concerned about pictures surfacing of your cleavage or your ass hanging out of a short skirt, then don't wear those types of costumes. And if someone is bothering you, then get security or someone that will stick up for you if you can't do it yourself. Making passive-aggressive hints to what's likely an autistic creep isn't going to be enough to get them to go away.

Fucking no. I'm sick of this "omg society, I am incompetent, please fix my life for me" bullshit.

If guys can handle it / deal with landwhales who rush & lunge at them to say how much they love them without complaining about it on the Internet, then

WHY

shouldn't women be able to do that too? Why shouldn't women be just as empowered?

This is nothing but victimization. And you obviously like being a victim.

"creepy" is just another way of saying "scary". ie you were scared of a social situation.

Which is why the term "creeper" is so stupid. It's an attempt to label a man as a sexual deviant despite the person having done nothing wrong. Which women are unsettlingly okay with doing.

3rd-wave feminism really isn't anything but confused teenage girls who want attention and women who are too lazy/stupid to get a real job and/or want everything handed to them just because they have a vagina.

Previous waves of feminism went towards suffrage, equal rights in workplaces/schools, and other important issues. It's sad that this "rape culture" shit is actually being called an entirely new wave of "feminism".

The rule of thumb is more or less- Looky but no touchy. If you want a picture, it's best to ask for it. Use common sense and don't bother someone who's obviously busy. Don't take "sexy" photos without asking if it's okay first. If the person you're interacting with seems uncomfortable, then you should probably stop. If they tell you stop, definitely stop. And just because someone's dressed as your favorite character doesn't mean they are your favorite character or want sum fuk.

This kind of mindset isn't hard to follow.

Girl who cried rape.

Enough stupid women have abused the word 'rape' to lead others to immediately doubt them, because the average rape claim is usually not true. This is why so many actual rape cases go unreported because so many people are disinclined to believe them due to people abusing the idea of rape because it has so much power.

Guy dumped you? Call the police and tell him he raped you.
Random dude complimented you? Tell all your friends he's a rapist.
Some bro offers to buy you a drink? RAPE.
Overhear a dirty joke? That's double rape!

People have built up a sort of cynicism towards the idea because modern sexual empowerment has led to a sort of sexual bullying. It's not victim blaming, but it does make the whole thing so much more of a mess because there are victims who even have their issues addressed because of frivolous bitches.

To put it in 4chan terms.. It's like wanting to admit you like My Little Pony, but you can't even talk about it because of all the faggoty, terrible bronies that have sullied to very idea of even watching that show.

As a guy who likes to dress as "sexy" characters sometimes, I know what it is like to have girls say lewd things, glomp me, and sometimes do "inappropriate" things. Moreso probably than what girls are used to because girls generally deem it socially acceptable to do whatever they want to men. Usually I don't mind it since, although unwanted, it's really not harming anything. If it gets too weird/uncomfortable I just say something along the lines of "Whoa, please don't do that. Not cool with that" or whatever.

I guess the question I would pose is... why are women somehow incapable of doing the same? Is going on the internet victimization tour somehow going to make a situation they went through better? Wouldn't it be better to learn how to handle social situations yourself? Calling all men animals and criminals because of some petty circumstance you had to do with before at a con is just entitled and insulting.

She had some tube top style of shirt with some straps to hold it up along with some very short shorts. She got super offended that this 21 year old guy hit on her and the guy wasnt phased that this girl was 15/16. She just walked away and never told the guy that she wasn't interested. She also contacted the hotel staff instead of con staff about this issue. This kind of shit bugs me. Tell the person you're uncomfortable or that you don't want something. Don't run off and bitch about it to staff first. This whole thing sounds like more of a social issue. I know girls tend to wear more revealing outfits but at least know how to handle yourself and others. I know you can't control every scenario but know that when you wear these skimpy/revealing outfits that something might be said. There's a limit to everything here, so just speak up. I, also, wouldn't mind knowing how much actually happens to these ladies/guys at a con. Sorry just my opinions.

>i can greentext and exaggerate everything and make a strawman argument. I win the internets.

It's a pretty harmless message, you know. The whole campaign is just saying that costumes aren't an excuse to harass people. It's a message to cosplayers to stand up for themselves, a message to potential harassers to knock that shit off, and a message to bystanders to step in and help whenever they can.

You clearly haven't read up on this much at all and are gathering all your info from third parties who are criticizing the movement. If you knew more about it, it's not about creating victims. It's just acknowledging the simple reality that sometimes when you're being harassed or made uncomfortable, you're not prepared for it and you don't always know how to react, so people tend to just kind of stand there and laugh it off awkwardly. Ever thought of an amazing comeback for some asshole hours after an encounter? It's like that. Ideally everyone would immediately enforce their personal boundaries, but if you'd ever been harassed yourself you'd know that the shock of it can make you blank out. So it's important for people to know that more than just standing up for themselves, they need to stand up for others too.

I have dealt with this shit before. I've had girls threaten to tell people I've raped them when I hadn't even so much as seen their tits. I've had friends go through nasty break ups where the woman ceaselessly harassed them and spread some of the nastiest rumors they could imagine up.

I've also seen that the statistics when it comes to rape are kind of hard to properly record because so many go unreported simply because no one does believe the victim because of shit like I mentioned above.

as for false rape accusations, yes there are plenty that happen. It's not a rare thing. This is not just a problem for men, but SHOULD be seen as a very real problem for women, too. Every false rape accusation that's made and proven to be false/admitted to be false adds a little bit of cynicism that people who are actual victims have to face. Every false rape accusation made makes men that more wary about being near females, for fear of angering the wrong woman and ruining his life. It's bad for everyone, and pretending it's not a problem while screaming "HATE!" is just going to make it worse. Jeez, I'm a feminist AND a sexual assault victim and even I know this shit is fucked up.

>the guy says you're making too big of a deal
Who the fuck cares what he says? if he's making you uncomfortable then it's good enough. The security guard or a staff member isn't gonna say "Haha womminz" and order you into the kitchen, they're gonna tell the guy to leave you alone.

>lying about it?
Again a staff member or security guard wouldn't take the risk of either of you lying. It's easier to order you both separated at that point regardless of who's causing what.

>if the guy runs off?
Problem solved? If they go away then what's the issue? You got what you wanted. And if they show up again then security or staff have the power to kick him out of the convention if he repeats the offense.

Ah yes, the old Boogieman argumet. I'm willing to bet this incidence never happened and you have zero evidence to support it ever did.

"Consent" is a term often associated with the act of sex. "Consenting adults" for instance.

It's not often associated with personal space and candid comments. You don't ask for consent before complimenting a cosplayer. Perhaps you ask if it's okay to put an arm around them or you just hoverhand like a beta, but that's not often seen as consent in the way that consensual sex requires a mutual agreement between consenting adults.

>They follow you
Get security or a staff member, point to the person stalking you.
>They lie or run off
As stated, security or con staff take reports pretty seriously. If you report multiple offenses the person will be caught and they will be thrown out.
>but victim complex!
Nice try, but no. If someone is bugging you and you have a friend nearby it would be dumb of you not to get a friend involved and traverse the con with a group.

You're making excuses for yourself. Typical crybabby with a victim complex.

>hot woman known for her body is sexually harassed (pic related)
>every living soul screaming SHE DESERVED IT BECAUSE SHE DRESSES LIKE A SLUT
>SHE WAS ASKING FOR IT
>SHE IS SMILING SO SHE LIKED IT

And then you tell me she really did deserve it, or that she should have spoken up etc. Then you tell me you are not blaming the victim.
Seriously?

Sage because you are all hopeless and will keep victim blaming while claiming victim blaming does not exist.

>Cosplay =/= Consent is about HARASSMENT

No, it's about an attempt by a few outspoken women on the internet to get in on the slutwalk popularity and get some attention. The bigger a victim you can pretend to be, the more people will notice you.

Notice how the cosplayers holding up the signs are all advertising a girl's cosplay website.

But USA is a 3rd world country. That's the joke.

The problem is that it thinks it's a 1st world country, so it only focuses on solving the latter issues whilst ignoring the former.

Except for the whole lying thing. I reported a guy who was harassing me and following me around and he insisted I was lying. My friends backed me up, his friends backed him up and it turned into a whole "he said/she said" ordeal. Con security basically shrugged and said they didn't see any harassment so they couldn't be sure it didn't happen. So then he and his friends would try and start shit with us whenever we saw each other in passing because I "tried to ruin his life" or something.

A lot of people who are harassed (sexually or otherwise) are reluctant to come forward because their sides of the story are scrutinized like hell; often moreso than the person who is doing the harassment. Most of the questions I was asked by security were about what *I* did/said/etc.

Also like in my case, people will get angry with the person who did the reporting because the person they reported got in trouble. (This is especially evident in harassment cases where serious consequences like expulsion or jail time are concerned.) Or, in more minor cases where nothing major can be done, it makes the harassment worse--think school bullies.
