These two are on my "would snag if found for a great price" list, but I would sacrifice a small child for this one and I just saw the blue colorway sell on Y!Japan for less than 7200 yen. I'd really prefer the yellow version but just seeing the other going for that price hurt my body and my soul, especially because the person literally turned around with the same images and resold it for around $275. Might track down the skirt version at some point, since I still like the print a lot (it was Wonder Party).

AatP's Midsummer Night's Dream JSK II in ivory, which totally outs who I am. It just feels very small and wonky and I'm not sure if it's been altered (no signs of alteration at all) or if the official measurements were just too generous. Would anyone mind if I posted a photo and ask for judgement?

And I'm just disappointed by how flat cut it is and AatP/Baby quality in general. I've been trying to figure out if it's something I can get over or if I should pass it on.

If anyone else has the same dress, would they mind helping me out? I don't want to pass it on and disappoint another person the same way.

Anon from above who had a dream item that was meh, and I feel the same way about the pieces I have from them, one of which was my first dream dress. Which is a real shame because there are a lot of their designs I love but I just can't justify the prices further, based on the pieces I have.

Seriously love the non-collared Merry Making Party JSK, the frill on the bottom of the skirt is perfect, and I think it's one of the few dresses I want in several colourways. Black tho ughhhh.

This is just my opinion of course, but the items I have from them wrinkle very easily, and the fabrics don't feel particularly luxurious- I have items with softer, nicer lace from freakin' Bodyline for crying out loud. The construction is sometimes questionable- for example any items that are boned, you can guarantee the plastic boning will be wearing out of the channels in a very short time; and lastly the fit is sort of meh to me: for example I'm 5' and the dream dress I mentioned is bizarrely short on me.

This is in comparison to my other brand- I own something from each of the classic brands, and Meta, so that's what I'm comparing it to. Granted the items I own from Baby aren't print series items, so perhaps the quality is better on those? I don't know, I can only judge from what I have and what I've seen, Baby just never has impressed me too much.

Thanks for your assessment. I knew about he boning issues from the egl posts, but that's something I could fix, no matter how annoying it is. Although it is ridiculous that you spend $200-$300 for the dress only to get stabbed by it.

I think most people put the classic brands at the top of quality lists. Makes me sad that I'm not into classic.

Oh I see, you have the opposite problem as me, then. Both JSK's of that print were sort of.. going to fit weird on people depending on their bodyshape, it's odd they didn't release a normal waisted cut.

Baby/AATP doesn't line their bodices for the most part, so you have exposed elastic and boning on the inside which is kinda crappy. That's really the only quality issue I've noticed other than the non-colorfast prints. The dresses still look very nice on the outside and I've been pleased with the fabric and trim quality on what I own.

Here's a photo of between the lining and dress, and a snatch of the print.

The lining isn't overlocked and neither are the vertical seams on the bodice. I've seen this on the 2 other Baby dresses I've had.

The sewing notches are still present so it hasn't been altered. It's really just smaller than I thought.

I have a serious issue with the prints not being colorfast. Do couture brands make clothes that aren't colorfast? I don't get why any garment would't have the colors sealed to the point that a drop of water would cause damage. If you can't make the color stay, then don't print it. I don't mind it fading slowly over time (ex: black) but the way Baby's prints run is ridiculous.

I agree with you about color-fastness, but lolita brands aren't even remotely couture and I don't get why people always need to bring that word into it. Couture is made-to order, for starters.. Lolita brand is barely mid-level designer RTW. They're on par with Betsey Johnson/D&G/etc. And my lolita stuff is better quality than my Betsey and D&G stuff, so.

Some of their stuff is very nice. For example, I have Rosier Fleur in black and it feels wonderful, very comfortable, and it looks even better than it did on the site. All the dresses I have from them are polyester and made of quite floaty materials, so maybe it's the cotton dresses that tend to be sub-par? Their blouses I've found to be quite uncomfortable, though, the ones I have look very nice and they're not necessarily bad quality at all, but they're made of quite a rough, scratchy fabric that doesn't feel very nice.

That's a bit lazy on a lining that's accessible especially given how badly most lining fabric frays. I think that Baby's stock measurements are occasionally flat-out wrong, I've definitely known people who've bought from them and had to resell for that exact same issue.

Does AP or Baby sell lolita shivs?

Alright. So. I've got a little problem here. Found a dress I've wanted for months on mbok. It's a good price, seller claims the dress is new with tags and has sat in her closet for several months unworn. BUT the seller only has stock photos up.

They have 100% positive feedback and has more feedback as seller than buyer, but also has less than 70 total feedback entries.

Is it possible to ask a shopping service to request proof photos? I know a lot of sellers on mbok are really guarded about their privacy.

I used to own this JSK in black. The fitting was fine to me. Not too small or anything, I'm very skinny. It just was awkwardly short and the waist line was too high for my taste. This JSK is really better suited for small girls who are not taller than 5"3. Same goes for the low waist JSK btw.

I have it on good authority (from a BTSSB shop girl) that the materials used on this dress are delicate and it doesn't hold up well at the seams. If you ever get your hands on it, be prepared to deal with some stretched seams if it's been worn. You'll need to take it into a tailor to get it fixed, which may lose you a couple inches in the measurements. If it hasn't been worn or the seams aren't stretched, you should probably get the bodice reinforced anyway to prevent damage.
