So, I have a conundrum... Lolita is a wonderful style for fall & winter periods due to all the layers, but with temperatures rising I'm finding myself having to lock away all my lovely frills to avoid heatstroke. Anyone know of good hot weather lolita coordinates that actually keep with loli rules? Pics would be most helpful!

Usually I use hats in hot weather with a brim, and stick to just tights in hot weather. As for hair, shorter styles. Usually to be cool, keep your neck bare. Also wrists.

I consider the pic to be lolita except personally I'd wear tights b/c bare legs don't make sense in lolita, to me. I don't wear crew socks with lolita either, but to each their own.

Most of these would still be terrible in hot weather, how hot does it get for you OP?

I have some tips from someone who lives where it is regularly over 100 in the summers.

• use your natural hair, or if you need a wig go with a short style like a bob. Wig fibers trap a lot of heat on your back and neck
•use a parasol or a hat like a boater style to shade your face
•go with socks over tights, and ankle socks are becoming more popular so those are even better than a standard knee high
•if you are wearing a JSK do a sheer blouse (chiffon, ect.) without an undershirt. Your JSK will cover everything you need covered and the fabric will breath. You can also do a very open weave short sleeved bolero with no blouse.
•Cutsews are great if they are 100% cotton. In fact, try to stick to as much cotton as you can

On a side note, I just remembered an article I read about Goth Day in Disneyland. The author asked some of the goth guys how they could stand being in all black and completely covered in the 100+ degree weather that day, and they replied something like "How can you stand showing your bare skin to the sun? By covering all over, you keep yourself cooler because the sun isn't beating down on you."

I have no idea if it works but they seemed alright.

(sage for blurry pic and ugly self-post)

Great thread!! I live in a place that is almost summer/hot all year round (a little ghost town in Texas).
I made this super simple coord for an event that's next month. The material of Twinkle constellation is surprisingly light! My friend is going to be wearing Dream Sky in a similar manner.
I think crew socks are perfect for summer, just like chiffon.

Also, I'm still fairly new, so if you got any con-crit (or just plain crit) go ahead! And yes, the picture it's blurry, I took more but this is the only one where you can see the whole thing. and derpu unicorns hiding the mess I have in my room.

Avoid black in the direct sunlight.
Since both of my gingham fabric dresses from BABY and AP are pretty damn thin, they make great summer dresses. (Can't speak for the printed gingham stuff, but just plain "gingham check" has always been thin for me)
Definitely agree on a hat. Bonnets and headpieces that tie under the chin just add more bulk and always made my face more sweaty.

And fuck it, ya know what? When it gets that hot, I don't wear bloomers. Not even gonna front.

My personal hot weather tips:
- tights personally make me hot so I stick to socks, especially ankle socks now that they are trendy
- knockoffs of these AP sandals worn barefoot or with ankle socks
- bloomers because I have fat legs and it just feels more comfortable to have cotton under there instead of sweaty grossness
- no blouse - either short sleeved OPs or short-sleeved delicate boleros over JSKs
- updo hair instead of a wig
- light colored parasol (I used to do more gothic and all a black parasol does is attract all the damn sun and warm me up)
- carrying a cute hand fan

I haven't tried the chiffon thing but is that actually true? I can't imagine all that polyester (or silk, which insulates) could be that cooling.

desert lolita here
and it sucks
120F in the summers but sometimes still feel an urge to wear lolita, here is what I've learned :

classic and country lolita area ideal for lolita
casual lolita is also acceptable
short sleeve blouse, short ankle socks
keep the petticoat number to a minimum if you can
wigs, lol yarite, learn to style your hair
hats are also good for keeping cool
boleros are also OK in the heat

I generally stay away from sweet lolita because heat will wrinkle the dress and it's VERY visible on the prints and can ruin it, and sweating in AP dresses and the like make it highly uncomfortable

EGL is also hard to wear in the summer due to the dark colors absorbing in the heat.

Out of all of these posts, I'd say the first one after OP was ok for severe heat.

also sorry I got no cute coords to show.

Okay, loli here who suffers from heat exhaustion and, wait for it: Heat poisoning. (Still not 100% what that is, but my doctor was pretty rabid about it.)
Here's my problem, how to wear lolita, even in humid heat? I might be going to college in Tampa, FL, and I want to know if it'll be impossible for me to wear lolita. (I'll be spending summers at home, so don't factor in the summer temps.)

As a lolita from a tropical country, where it EASILY reaches 27ºC~35ºC ALL YEAR ROUND during the day, I'm going to say:

Knee socks and thin thights are IMPOSSIBLE to wear.
Ankle socks are the only thing wearable. Also, short-sleeved shirts? ppff, just if you want to have them covered in sweat stains. JSK or OPs without shirts.
Light dresses so you won't need more than one petti to make them poofy.
Also, something I found very useful: crochet boleros. They're basically nothing, but they cover your shoulders for JSKs that are too thin.

Summers get pretty hot where I am, up to 42 celcius. I still wear lolita but make sure to do the following:
1. Good dark parasol. Not lacy ones, solid ones like the ones lolita brands release. They really help with keeping you cool since temperatures under shade feel like much less (sorry English is not my first language, not sure how else to say this, but I mean that a parasol is not just for style or to not get a tan, you really feel much cooler when you block the sun)

2. Short sleeved OPs or Jsks with a very very thin chiffon short sleeved bolero (I have lots of these as they are barely a thin sliver of a tiny piece of fabric so they don't make you hot, but still cover up enough for it to be more than a blouse-less jsk)

3. Ankle socks & sandals

4. Fan

5. Keeping well hydrated in and out by always carrying water as well as a water spritzer (there are make-up friendly ones from many brands that you can spray over make up)

6. Keep a short-ish bob heaircut (or if you have long hair wear it as an up-do) and ditch the wigs.

7. As for petticoats and bloomers: I don't like going without, so I wear 1 good medium-poof petti. You may think this is gross but instead of bloomers I have bought several pairs of undies that are more like shorts. If I wore bloomers that would be an extra layer over my underwear. But on teh other hand, the soft cotton fabric is a good barrier between skin and petti layers that helps you keep cool and not get sticky and sweaty. So instead of undies + bloomers, I wear cute cotton shorts that are basically underwear but offer a bit more coverage.

Goth loli living in extremely humid, 28deg all year round environment.

>wearing black
It is hot as fuck but its just my favourite colour. If you're not like me, don't wear black. It is hot as FUCK

>block the sun
Do not walk unguarded in the sun. Stick to the shadows (of trees and buildings) even with your parasol/umbrella open. I generally don't care about looking stupid so I hold my brelly at weird angles and lengths to block as much sun as possible. Everyone recommends hats but I don't concur. They make my head and scalp hot and sweaty. I wear hats purely for aesthetics

>hosiery and underthings
Low denier stockings are awesome for me. I have scarred legs and I can't live without them. High denier ones are a no-no. Most lolita socks are very thick so skip them. Ankle socks are great. I have never worn bloomers ever. I only wear cotton safety shorts.

>layered clothing
Is impossible. Do not try to layer your clothing you will hate yourself. Blouses under jsks ? Don't bother. Wear a shawl, bolero, short cape instead. Only wear short sleeved OPs... don't bother with long sleeved ones. You can wear blouses with skirts but cotton all the way mate

>hair
No wigs. Do your own hair. Tie it up or keep it short. Twin braids are great against the heat. My lucido-l wax is great. Without it my hair will turn limp due to the humidity

>makeup
Primer and oil blot sheets

Most importantly minimise your time outdoors. Hide indoors with air conditioning as much as possible.

Got mine from H&M. Most mall fashion shops start carrying straw boaters around this time of year or in a month or two, just go look.

Maybe this without the black bustier and a shorter wig.

A little unrelated, but does anyone have the link to this person's tumblr? Her old one (ayubutts) is gone, and I can't seem to find her new one.

Thank you so much anon!

Contributin'...I think straw hats add a nice summery touch to an outfit. Practical too.

For summer in a hot place? No way, you would be dying in that. Too much stuff, and tights...

>>6756341
This is better, but you would probably need a shortsleeve blouse. I can see that blouse being quite stuffy in the heat.
