How about a character tips thread /cgl/?

What's a good thing to tell someone who's making a costume you made in the past?

>for mami: use a gored skirt pattern instead of a circle skirt, it'll give you more ruffle-age

/r/ing a puff-sleeve pattern?
>inb4 google
google's bad for patterns in my experience.

If possible, try hitting up JoAnn's during their $1 pattern sales. Simplicity has a bunch of costume patterns with puffy sleeves.

I don't totally agree about the gored skirt. A circle skirt with some horsehair braid gives a nice poof.

Also, for anyone doing her underbust thingy as a corset, Simplicity 9769 works really well as long as you alter the top.

o.O

But a gored skirt will want to hang, instead of floating like Mami's does. Pics of this marvelous idea of yours? I'm skeptical.

I'm assuming that this is paired with a short petti? Am I wrong OP?

I'll have to agree, horsehair braid will give it nice ruffles if you gather it and will hold them up as well, and combining with a petti could give it extra poof if needed.

You can gather a circle skirt...

If by "ruffle-age" you mean hem circumference, a circle skirt gives you the maximum hem, not an A-lined skirt. A proper circle skirt with reinforced hem (i.e. with horsehair braid) that has no gathering at the waist is better.

Whenever I have a pattern with regular sleeves and I need large, puffy sleeves, I just use this tutorial.
http://crafty-dame.livejournal.com/7449.html
It works surprisingly well and I can use the same pattern again and again, altering it when I need to.

Yuna's skirt has a very specific pleat
Her sleeves are not the same shade of white as her top
The vines on her skirt are a very light shade of green on the FMV model. It's almost white, but not quite.
To sew her top you have to pattern out a U shape that is thinner at the curve and wider at the ends.
On her left hand she has two silver bracelets and a pinky ring.
On her left she has a ring on her middle finger

I have that reference! After looking high and low on the interwebz when I was a noob, the cosplay really intimidated me, so for now I put it away. But thanks for the resources and tips. I'll definitely use it in the future.
