Desginer here. I don't post on 4-chan as a rule, but I've seen a bit of talk about this line here. I recently responded to an ask on my tumblr (http://lotvdesigns.tumblr.com/).).

Short version: I have no current plans to re-release the unicorn line, I'm selling some skirts made from extra fabric at Frill and if I was going to re-release a line in the future it would most likely be this one with reworked background colors (richer brown/navy) and different bodices.

I do small runs, first come first serve. That way everyone has a chance.

As an independent seamstress going up against both the Japanese brands and the other Asian brands with access to mass production I have to have an edge. My edge is that I produce very limited lines, both because I know my limits, and to keep up interest. By making the fabric for the lines available I am undermining that edge.

This may seem a bit cutthroat, and I hope I am not judged too harshly for it; but I don't want to not be able to produce the dresses I want to because I've killed my own market.

I do have plans to release a few other fabric designs on spoonflower (scatter pattern of flora and fauna from the original unicorn designs, a Moon kingdom hem print).

Any other questions please use my tumblr ask. I really don't want to fill this thread with stuff relating only to my brand.

In my mind as a customer, the edge an indie designer has is that they CAN talk directly to the consumer, that they aren't this faceless company that I can't actually bring my concerns and comments to, bring special requests to for consideration, etc. To me, an indie brand's advantage is that they're close enough to the consumer to be able to consider things like second or more runs.

For example, when I got orders for the unicorn skirts several people wanted printed sashes like the jumperskirts had. I did some calculations, figured out how much to charge extra and did them special order for those customers.

And your reasoning not to being basically that your focus is on ultra-exclusivity, which in my opinion just isn't appetizing in an indie brand to me as a consumer because part of what to me is great about an indie brand is that because they aren't a huge company you can get close enough to them to request things like rereleases.

Sorry I kind of came off muddled. The designer of the print already said they weren't interested in actually making a clothing line as they are only a graphic designer.

I basically was kind of warning people who saw the kind of feedback they were getting about it (oh i love it, i'll buy x colorway right NOW, I'm going to make five skirts yes!) against actually taking a design like this and trying to make a line, because things like 'Rollita' and that weird print with the blackberry and skulls in it? all failed terribly (I think the blackberry print girl actually stole people's money even).

basically was just saying to not get excited that something made in PS in 10 mins got some interest and to try and make a line out of a print that you only put minimal effort into because it will fail, no matter how quirky it is or how many nerdy lolitas you have trying to back it up...
