This is why I'm always so hesitant to give contouring advice here because people just take what's said and apply without adapting the tips to their own facial features. it's impossible to tell someone what to do without seeing what their working with.

Hey hsg, I'm going to be attempting signless for Otakon hopefully, and I was wondering what would be the best way to go about the cloak? Is it better to go longer or shorter, and what style exactly should the cloak be in? what would be the best fabric for the job? There is basically nothing right with the hood. The prince hood drapes over the shoulders and is pretty large, and the white part on top is a little pointed crown, not a squished headband.

Longer and heavier. Make it out of fake wool if you can. There are so few well-done Signless cosplays around because everyone goes the lazy way with the cloak or makes it out of cotton. No opinion on the style, but I also wouldn't cut holes into it unless it matches the rest of your design. I think it looks kind of dumb when people have a ripped up cloak but the rest of their outfit looks pristine.

The problem with looking at their cloaks for advice is that neither of them are canon, despite being the only two "good looking" signlesses. vantasticmess' signless is based off a piece of fanart, and gothichamlet's is spruced up with unnecessary detail.

I'm in the process of making a cosplay of calliope cosplaying her trollsona.
basically green calliope with wig + horns and all that jazz.
I just made these test horns yesterday with air-dry clay (hence why they're all cracked, unpainted and ugly)

Gothichamlet's cloak is only 'off' because of the embroidery, so their cloak's drape is probably your best bet for inspiration.

I think most of what makes a good cloak is appropriately heavy material and a lot of it. If you can't choke up the cash for at least 4 yards of fabric your cloak will almost definitely be shitty.

What's the fandom opinion on characters in alternate outfits?

I mean stuff like, people cosplaying the troll girls dressed up like Sailor Senshi from Sailor Moon, or the female characters dressed as bunny girls?

I say this because my friend is trying to get together a group of troll girls in Japanese school girl outfits but they want me to cosplay as Eridan in one as well, and I'm not sure if I'd just get the piss taken out of me for it ? because I generally only stick to canonical outfits when cosplaying characters so yeah.

They're still wet, I just finished molding them and I wanted to get some critique before I let them set in the shape they're in. Any tiny lumps can probably be sanded out when they're dry, but have at 'em, cgl. They're supposed to be for Meulin, and I can post a size reference to my head if that would help too.

Certainly! Sorry for the angle, I was trying to hold a horn with one hand and my phone with the other and somehow get the length of the wig in the shot too. I blocked out my face, but that shouldn't make too much of a difference. My wig isn't the best: it poofs out more on bottom than it does on top, so I'm sorry to say that it won't have the volume that better Meulins do.
