Not really hard mode when there was just a huge Japanese shironuri meet to grab pics from.

This sounds like a really terrible idea for a meet though when, assumedly, most people have zero experience in doing this makeup. In b4 horrible, splotchy bad makeup everywhere.

I've got no advice for you, anon. My face is waaay too angular to even consider trying shironui for myself (even though I'd love to), so I haven't really done much other than save a few pictures. I'll post what I have for you though.

Some people in another thread were having the same discussion, and I found myself agreeing with an anon who talked about shironuri having the aesthetic appeal of an innocent-looking moon-faced doll. Obviously, not everyone who wears shironuri is going to for the innocent doll look, but that's one of the things I really like about it and it's the main thing I personally don't think I can pull off.

I only cared for it because of bands like deadman and aliene mariage. Other than that, i know there are no real rules aside from just having your face painted white.

Use the white foundation but don't forget setting powder! Don't gloop it on either or you'll end up with weird face wrinkles.

Get a nice foundation brush to apply it and do it in light coats. If you have blemishes you might want to add some concealer first.

After that you can go hogwild.

To get a good white face,get a bit on the sponge and dab it on in fast little dabs in each area.You get good coverage quickly without big smear lines.Dab delicately around your eyes so you avoid getting it clumped all over your lashes. Set with white or translucent powder with a large brush then use a clean one to brush off any excess. A coat of hairspray or setting spray over top will give you an extra bit of protection.
For a traditional sort of shironuri,do light winged out black eyeliner and a small circle of red at the outer edge of the eyes.Dab a red or bright pink shadow from just under the outer corners of your eyes down to the apples of your cheeks.

Any tips on covering/sealing eyebrows? Seems necessary, since just splotching white foundation onto eyebrows will look horrible. I see the spirit gum method and the glue stick method but if anyone has personal experiences, lemme hear them, please!

I used spirit gum once to hide my eyebrows. That's how I discovered that I'm allergic to latex, LOL.
I've known lots of people who have had good experiences though, you just have to make sure that you remove it properly or it can also give you a rash that way.

I think westerners could pull it off pretty well. These girls just need better makeup all together.
It also seems like they're trying hard to be like Minori instead of finding a style all themselves.

I plan on doing a Shironuri coord based on the Greek god Athena.

Self-posting at risk of being another example against westerners in shironuri. To be fair, I had no idea shironuri was a "thing" outside of visual kei bands when I took this picture 3 years ago.

I used Ben Nye white foundation. It covers really really well. I've used a couple different kinds of powder, but none of which have been awesome quality and I can't really remember what did and didn't work great.

I just used a white cream make up applied with a make up sponge. A little basic but I'm just playing around. I'm planning on getting proper white make up though before I head to Japan though I do like the pale look too. With covering eyebrows though I find that I would need a stronger white make up even when I glue them down the white cream make up doesn't cover them completely.

Anyways, OP, I'm in the Atlanta comm, too. As much as I think shironuri is amazing, I can't help to think that we're all going to look like such hot messes. I mean, I don't know if you were at the Easter picnic yesterday, but you saw how hot it got. It'll probably be even hotter later on. And we're going to be sweating, so we'll be all gross looking...plus we'll be in lolita so that'll be doubly weird. Personally, I wouldn't consider something shironuri specifically unless its routes are more clearly from the Japanese sensibility of it (maiko, kabuki, kokeshi dolls, specifically lolita-like doll references... something like that).
