You can definitely have preferences on how a character's hair or features look like, but as long as it's in the comic, I think it's pretty fair game to use it as a cosplay reference. As long as the rest of the costume is good, who gives a shit? People can stylize the characters how they want.

I got a black rock shooter wig and took apart the pigtails for the braids. 1 ponytail was enough for 2 braids that reached the floor. I did the first braid then tied it real good and hand stitched a 2nd braid onto that one to make them super long. It's too bad I never want to cosplay her again, I liked that wig.

That is probably my biggest Pet Peeve of them all, when people neglect what look good on them in favor of trying to be 100% canon.
Roses lipstick is probably the biggest sinner. Instead of going BLACK you usually look better with a deeper shade of purple, or maybe not even that dark.

Pierced cosplayer here: a lot of the time I leave my ear jewlery in if I think my wig will be covering/wont stand out too much/get lazy. I have a retainer for my lip piercing but the gauge is a little thin (so it hurts to put my normal jewellery back in), I lost one of the ends for it, and it's kind of a pain to put in/take out.

Plus some characters actually suiting piercings, even if they're non-canon. I leave my lip piercing in for Striders and Meenah, but usually make more of an effort with it for cosplays like Jake/John where it's highly unlikely and a little odd for the character to be pierced.

But this is just for conventions and photoshoots really. If I'm just taking a picture at home or something? I don't really see any reason at all to take it out.

I am also a total sucker for Tavros cosplayers with septum piercings, I must admit.

Is it really that looked down upon to have a visible headband? I don't have access to power tools like drills and stuff so honestly I have no choice but to glue them on that way.

I put immense effort into my cosplays and try to hide the headband as much as I can but is it really that big of a cosplay sin in the homestuck fandom?

If you can't do them any other way (clips, snaps, etc), depending upon the horns, you can just add small slits in the wig net to slide your horns through so you're wearing underneath the wig itself.

When I painted my shoes (which was like the most artsy thing I've ever done. Lots of details and art and stuff) I used regular acrylics, but with quite a bit of water. It soaks into the canvas and since you can't iron shoes anyways fabric paint becomes kind of unnecessary.

To be fair, we don't know how much acne she's dealing with? I had horrible cystic zits a few years ago and though I could cover up most of it, it never actually looked *great*. You could still see the texture of them. It seems clear to me she's wearing concealer and foundation, it's just the bumps showing through. I think that's where a simple photoshop job should be done, tbh. There's no shame in it, you can only camoflauge your skin so much.

just started on some Kurloz horns with paperclay and foil. (( SO much better than model magic in my honest opinion. ))

Since I have foil in the center, how would I go about drilling into the horn/hiding the headband? I would think I would risk ruining the horns if i tried drilling into a chunk of foil. Kurloz's horns are pretty big.. so I do not think clips would suffice.

I can't find any good tutorials, so I'll try my best at explaining how to paint gradient horns. (Or at least, my unorthodox way of doing it.)
First, get out bottles of yellow, orange, and orangey-red or just plain red acrylic paints. Also get a lid of a container or something plastic you can mix paints on, as well as a cup of water. There will be lots of color-mixing, and general messiness, so you may want to do this outside or cover the area you're working on with newspaper or something. I have a working table in which I do all my painting for cosplays, but if you don't, then definitely try to cover up the place first. (Dunno about you, but I'm messy af when I paint.) You may also want a pair of gloves if you don't like getting your fingers stained/painted.
Start off with an entire yellow coat of paint over both horns. Let that dry and then do another coat of yellow, this time only covering 1/2 of each horn (towards the ends). If needed, one more coat after that, painting only 1/3 of each horn towards the ends. Once those coats dry, start mixing yellow with enough orange paint that it turns just a tad oranger than the yellow. (So not too much. I'd give you ratios, but I don't know the exact paints or shades your colors are, sorry about that.) Now paint the inner 2/3 of each of your horns. You can do it messy, it doesn't matter, just make sure it's pretty straight all the way around. Before that dries, wet your brush a tiny bit (just so it's enough to smudge), and quickly brush around the edges of the orangey-yellow to the yellow. Since I'm shit at explaining, do something like in this video:

Keep mixing a little more orange and continuing to go further down, smudging it a little lower into the layer before. Once you get to your solid orange paint, with no more yellow mixed in, you should be around 1/3 or 1/4 from the bottom of your horns. Mix a very small (VERY SMALL) amount of red/orangeyred into some orange and redo the method until you're at the very bottom, AKA done. What I do after the paint is all done is put a couple layers of clear nail varnish over the horns, just so they're more durable/waterproof. what troll are you thinking of doing?

On the topic of horns i have some super light weight tavros horns and i use to have them hot glued to a head band.
On the headband the plus was my horns were always erect but the down being you could see the head band in plain sight.
Recently i went to a con and hot glued two screws onto and headband and stuck it under the wig. (harder than usual trolls imo because the screw placement for tavros, but i managed to get them pretty lined up) after that i would just simply screw the horns onto the screws. Down side the horns get droopy every now and then and knock off pretty easy? pro the head band doesn't show.
How can i rig it so that the head band doesn't show and my horns dont have erectile dysfunction? I was thinking maybe two screws on each side but getting two screws alone through the wig is already hard enough as is. I also thought of using longer screws but again getting that under the wig in gonna be hard work. Ill take any suggestions i can get thanks.

I usually get three or four colors of acrylics. Thick acrylic pigments are really nice and you don't have to continuously layering the paint on. My recommendation for that is Folk Art Brand acrylic paints which you can find at nearly every Hobby store in the US.

I tend to use a thick, wide, middle size brush for watercoloring and acrylic based painting. If you can, also grab some of the cheaper walmart like brushes that you can sacrifice.

With the good brush, use the middle orange and paint your horns completely orange. Let them dry completely and add a few more coats on it till it's completely covered in just the orange. After that, you're going to want to take your cheaper brushes and dab just a hair of paint on to the tips. If you get more, get some cardboard and dab it on the surface till the bristles kind of fan out with the bare minimum of paint on them. Card board absorbs any kind of moisture.

With the dry brushing, you'll work from tip and end with the yellow and darker orange. Start at your tip with the yellow and slowly drag the brush down. Once you do that, make small circular motions to help add a consistent flow of color. By doing this though, you're going to end up fanning out and making your brushes really dead, so I usually opt for the walmart ones and use the better brushes for my straight line painting.

You'll want to continue blending for a good while and gradually add more and more of the brighter/darker colors to the tips and ends of the horns. If you feel you got too much, dab away the wetness with a paper towel and eve then that creates some good gradient and textures if you want to test out that method, too.

As both a lolita and a Homestuck, I wish this would stop. This 'lolitastuck' stuff. It's not that I hate the idea at all. In fact I completely love it, and don't give a flying fuck if it's Rose in lolita or Striders.

That wig is the right color and texture for Rose, that's about it. Her bangs aren't sideswept, the length not that long.
