The lighting is a bit rougher than I would like but I am satisfied considering I made it with stuff I had just lying around on my bench. I didnt want to have to drop more dough on EL stuff this late in the project either, though I may someday redo this part with better materials.

I started making a Garrus mask yesterday. 1 coat of fiberglass so far. I just added paint and shading for fun so it showed up better in the picture. (no where near complete though)

I'd bring them inside for a few days after the paint seems dry and leave them near a heater to help the paint cure. Metallic paint is a pain and takes a while to really cure properly if the weather's bad, so do what you can to keep it warm and dry for several day.

I know you said on your fb that you wouldn't do a tutorial, but I do have one question, how did you get the LED strips to diffuse their light so evenly? Is it just LED strips underneath clear resin? I've been trying to figure out what I'll do for a similar glowing blade and this is certainly the best/closest I've seen.

>> No.6723395

The strips are wrapped in a thick layer of cling film. In addition it's glued on two layers of white paper instead directly at the resin. The blades are also filled with resin and not just hollow. Guess this all helps a lot.

The sealer won't help. :( That stuff does not work like regular spray paint. It's essentially meant for interior pieces that won't be touched.

You can achieve a better result than a flat grey/silver, there are things like hammered silver spray paint (which I like but might not be the right effect for you). If you have sanded those things perfectly, professional chroming (by the same people who'll do car parts, etc) is also an option.

GaoGaiGars torso is pretty much complete. Its not super complex or detailed since the front is almost completely covered by Galeons head and the back will be hidden by the StealthGaos wings.

The bicep armor for this costume will hang off the shoulder armor and will not be attached to my arm directly. My upper arm will just fit inside the hollow bicep armor giving the illusion of wide shoulders. My gundam costume had the biceps velco'd to my arms with padded sides giving the illusion of width. It worked but they were uncomfortable and very difficult to get on. This way should be much and better for comfort and provide better flexibility! This is critical since I want to be able to bring my hands together to simulate GaoGaiGars ultimate attack, Hell and Heaven.

Heres a pic of everything as it stands now.

I am using a ton of velcro to attach everything for this build. My Gundam suit didnt use much and suffered because of it. The skirt armor is all free hanging via velco so it should provide alot better mobility when everything is done.

I still need to complete the forearms, wingpack and hammer. Various other small parts need to be added as well. The thighs are too long currently and scrape up against the lower leg armor. I may have to redo them entirely.

Trying to motivate myself to finish my Daenery's (show) Qarth dress. I met GRRM last weekend so I rushed the fabric painting the day-of the event in order to have it done (painted 6 yards in just over an hour) and now I hate it (I ended up throwing together a Dothraki outfit instead, but most of my time was spent making a Jon).
I've got a con this weekend too and I was thinking I could finish this for the formal since it is so close to completion but...I don't know if I can handle wearing it when the paint is so totally wrong and ugly.
A waste of $50 of fabric+paint right here. Ugh.

>>6729397
I've seen several Jon's do the frost route and only one was sorta decent. I did a bunch of research trying to find a method and all I came up with was a bunch of ridiculously expensive hollywood products for fake snow for sets mostly, some facial make up (neither of which are applicable) and people using fabric paint with mediocre results. Oh and I've read the can snow smears like a motherfucker so I would not suggest that. I will also add that I am hella jealous of dat Valyrian Steel.

Ahahah, I tried to hide them for Dany's dress but, yeah, they look more like Tyrell boobs. I had to do a bunch of boob magic 'cause this dress is ridiculously sheer, low cut and my boobs are too large to hang free in this with out some horrible mishap. I bought some boob cups and have to literally tape them to me (not talking fashion tape, I had to use packing tape), going about 6in under the bust and then over the shoulder. As I haven't finished the shoulder filigree I am just hoping that the tape won't be too visible. I've done several tape tests and it wasn't that bad, before /cgl/ overreacts at TAPE+BOOBS: sure it was a little itchy but the bulk of the boob is covered by the cup so the tape doesn't harm it, it doesn't hurt to remove and it held for a 3+ hour test.

I pretty much cut 2 retangular chunks of fabric (measured from collar bone to floor with an inch or so for hemming), then cut a slit in the middle of each along the fold line (where you unfold fabric when you buy it by the yard) ~13in long for the boob/back. I sewed the sides together until ~13in up and then tried the whole thing on, with filler for the shoulder filigree. Next I tapered the sides in just a bit so that they wouldn't pucker at the belt. Viola~

If that doesn't make sense there are several gals who have made the dress who seem to have done roughly similar things (though I've seen a few that have made it needlessly complicated too). I'll try to take progress pics for a tutorial or something when I remake this mess with a non-shit paint job.

The only fucking thing that have in the colour I need are the long bangs...The have those long-ass curly hair clips, which I thought, "Oh, I could get one, and use the excess I cut off it to make a weft/clip." Lol, nope. Out of stock. I can live with the wig the length it is, but I would feel better if I could give it more length. What do you seagulls thing? Would long bangs help give it a bit more thickness and length? Or should I leave it.

It's really not at all hard to use and you can get things ever so silky smooth.

It's just goop, comes in two parts that you mix. You throw it on where you've got holes and get it vaguely close to where you want the surface, let it dry and sand it down and smooth. You can apply it with your hand if you're worried about getting it into tight spots, but you're better off using a small tool of some kind. Even a popsicle stick would work.

Look for automotive body filler. Bondo's just a brand name.

You need to iron the seams on the whole thing, especially the bow and the sash. I'm not sure if the petticoat will give the desired poof, but I like the fabric choices. The blouse looks good, but don't forget the little neck ruffles! That's my favorite part of her costume.

About halfway done on my Boudicca cosplay for ACen. It's my second cosplay, and the first that I've actually made myself instead of buying shit on ebay and maybe making a rinkydink prop, so I'm pretty stoked. We got a defective badger style long and an extra yellow curly clip. No set theme other than make something. Oh! And we're not allowed to dye the fibers. Which kinds sucks since I'm not particularly fond of yellow and black. Reminds me too much of a bumblebee.

I'm really anxious to see what the other contestants are making because I'm in that 'Oh god, everything I make sucks and it's not going to be impressive enough' mode.

Very nice pleating work! You should try doing a blind hem stitch for the bottom hem the next time so that the hemming stitches become nearly invisible. The zipper should go just a little lower as well; pleated skirts usually have a snap or hook-and-eye closure on top of the zipper closure to make sure that it doesn't wiggle open while you're wearing it.

Live progress thread!

So, I've got the base finished and covered in felt. Now comes the fun part of covering in wefts! Once I get the yellow on there, it will help break up the layers and you'll be able to see the difference between the back and the front. There should be a gap between the two to help give it a 'wing' effect.

Decent progress. I have a few questions for the more experienced of us here, who have preferably done knight and medieval cosplays before:

What would make a good substitute for chain mail? I've already considered basic gray cloth but that seems too easy and doesn't have the detail I'm looking for. Since the chain mail is also going to be my foot covering, it kind of has to be comfortable too (I'll probably have something to wear under the mail to make sure I don't walk my feet raw).

Also I'm gonna be making some shin guards and bracelets. I wanted them to be metal but I don't think I can find any like I want so I'm thinking about just making them from metal sheets since its a pretty simple shape. What do the seagulls think? What is the best way to make medieval-looking shin guards and bracelets?

I want some novelty contacts, specifically a kind I saw a long time ago called KO contacts that had a big chunky X on them. I tried googling it but no luck, just some shitty thin cross that isn't as appealing at all.

I'm sorry if you're not looking for feedback but I have a few comments to make on this.
First, it took me a few seconds of staring to realize this was supposed to be Sayaka. It was only really the skirt that tipped me off.
The white border on the skirt is absurdly long. It takes up almost 1/3 of the skirt from what I can tell, and that's way too disproportionate to look good, let alone be accurate.
Next, the shirt: I'm not really sure what happened there but you have VERY obvious fabric overlap going on. You either need to reduce bulk on the wrong side or add a super thick lining so that the colour evens out, because some parts are thin enough that I think I can see the colour of your dressform. In other words, you've got obvious "bars" of white fabric that I think need fixing.
There's also some awkward puckering up near the bustline, possibly caused by either the fabric or the lace.
Last: the cape looks pretty good from what I can see but the collar appears uneven and I'm not sure what's going on with the embellishments. Your gold bars don't match in the middle, and the gold detailing for the front center isn't really close to canon. I'd understand if you're stylizing it a bit, but to be honest it just kind of looks lazy.

TLDR: Your costume has a lot of inaccuracies and poor construction errors, and I think you should fix them.

So.... an earning on either side is gay now?
Or are you too retarded to understand mirrors?

No, the urban dictionary rule was wrong.

It was the single earring stud on the left ear that means a male is gay. The rule is widely accepted in Europe and the US.

Originally if a man in North America had his left ear pierced it meant that he was gay and sexually dominant, and having his right ear pierced meaning gay and sexually submissive.

It's okay JGE. No more tears, only dreams now.

You forgot your trip again.

I'm just an outsider who stumbled upon /cgl/.
Poor thread never stood a chance against one man with an earring it seems.
