I couldn't find one, so lolita general? (sorry if I've just missed it)
I recently got my second dress, pic related and I was wondering how it stands up to rain and snow and water in general, if anyone knows?

>> No.6716910

I put in an order with Closet Child about three days ago, but I have yet to receive a confirmation email or a request for payment (I've already checked my spambox too, don't worry.)
I ordered a pretty popular print, but it was still shown as "available" when I placed the order and immediately went to "sold out" when I submitted it...but I know there's a chance the item was already gone and I was under the impression they would contact you whether you got it or not.
How long does it generally take for you guys to receive replies from Closet Child?

Does anyone know if there's a way to pay in yen without using Paypal's ripoff conversion rate? I found allusions while googling to somehow letting your bank handle the conversion instead and paying yen straight through paypal, can you do this and how?

I was thinking this. The original guide I was looking at about this is here:
http://lifehacker.com/5957808/

But for the brand/overseas purchases I've made, I don't recall seeing that option available to me. I have a fuzzy memory though- does anyone know if that usually pops up? I'm not sure if this is available for when you have to send the payment, either (ie you don't get an invoice.)

Paypal says that they automatically draw on the balance that's the same currency as the invoice you're paying, or your default balance if you don't have a balance in that currency. With send payments, I seem to recall being able to select the currency? Which I guess would be drawn from the relevant balance anyway.

Then again, I've never seen those options in the link before, and I rarely pay in GBP. Perhaps it's to do with the country you live in?

I think the bank would handle the conversion but of course you'd have to pay all the relevant bank fees, and not all banks have great rates for foreign conversions anyway.

I've never seen that option available to me either, it's definitely not available if you're sending a payment although you get to select what currency you send in. If I use my card, it uses he paypal exchange rate but invoices me in my home currency so I don't have bank currency change fees.

Poor you, anon. Bodyline tea parties are okay if you're not willing to shell out for brand. Hope you're okay.

One thing you could try is stuffing the shoes really tight with newspaper or whatever, then sticking them in the freezer for a bit.

What would really help is a bit of white shoe polish. If you're in the UK, look for "granny shoe shops" that sell brands like Rieker, they'll usually have some.

Have a cute picture as a pick-me-up.

>> No.6726128

No. Once you've stretched seams, it's ruined, you've damaged the integrity of the actual fiber in the thread/fabric.

Thanks a lot Anon, you're so kind! I haven't really checked if I might've hurt something as I just came home. I did hurt my knees though.

Thanks for telling me about the bodyline shoes, I'll definitely look into them! Is there anything I should know anout the sizing?

Thanks for that picture too, it's so cute! I saved it in a heartbeat~

>> No.6726209

>>6726095
The only thing to do is turn the seams inward and resew. I'm not the best seamstress, so I'm not quite sure how it works, but I received a badly stretched JetJ dress in the mail and that's how they fixed the appearance of the stretched seams for me.

It does make the dress smaller, though because you're turning part of the fabric on itself. It wasn't a problem for me because I needed a size 1 and it was a 2, but keep that in mind.

Also, if eating stretches out the dress that bad, it probably doesn't fit well in the first place. Your lolita dresses shouldn't be skin tight when worn so any change in body fluctuation affects the fit that drastically.

>> No.6726267

Stupid question, probably, but what do stretched seams look like?
I tried googling it but that didn't help at all.

Ok, I need advice. three months ago I traded a dress with a local girl who had traded the dress I got with another comm member. Now the original owner of the dress wants it back, because of supposed damage, and wants to reverse the whole trade i.e. I give my dress back to the middle(wo)man and she gives the original owner the dress she traded. I want to cut out the middle person and figure this out without reversing the whole trade, and I really don't want to trade at all, but both of the other people are pressuring me.

tl;dr fishy trade situation, what do?

>> No.6726507

>>6726296
No way, if you made the trade, it's done and over with. They can't just take it back because they feel like it. And in any case, your trade had nothing to do with the first trade. The first trade sould be monetarily compensated if there's any damage, by the first trader.

Just to clarify since original anon doesn't seem to understand this, but Qutieland isn't a brand, it's a SS with very high markup... You would either be buying antaina or Custom House/Miranda shoes from them.

Antaina is FAR cheaper to buy through a normal SS. CH/Miranda however you would have to go through Qutie or Clobba, so that isn't a problem to buy from them (especially if you don't want to deal with the hassle of a normal SS).

Wore lolita for my birthday yesterday.. The dress I wore had corset boning, and as it was second hand I probably didn't check if it was like this before but the boning has bent a little on one of the sides. Is there any way to fix/prevent this, as I have other JSKs/skirts that have corset boning?

>> No.6726560

>>6726557
Not really. All plastic boning will do this eventually, it's just the nature of the material. It's why plastic boning isn't meant to do anything other than give the dress shape, in terms of function it's not going to do anything like an actual corset.

I've heard sometimes hot water can help reset it, but that also makes it more brittle, so you have to be very careful (because you're basically melting the plastic to reshape it).

Hi!

I'm getting more into lolita, and I thought to test it out to see if it suits me(I stand by the fact that if it doesn't suit you, don't wear it) I would try ordering from fanplusfriend since it's cheaper. I wouldn't feel right buying a brand dress as my first one, especially if I end up looking bad in the style.

I have just started to lose weight, work out, do what I can to look good, and if I look ~okay~ in lolita, I would like to use that as a goal along with my current ones. I'm 5ft7, 200lbs. My body type is the left http://i.imgur.com/sBRNTO1.jpg (I drew this to explain to my friend)

I am not looking for people to tell me not to do it, but asking for advice. I lurk the boards a lot, and I see what's good, but when it comes to choosing my own outfit/coord I have a bit more trouble.

I was looking at this dress
http://www.fanplusfriend.com/servlet/the-2128/Sweet-Rococo-Lolita-JSK%26Embroidery/Detail
with this blouse
http://www.fanplusfriend.com/servlet/the-1934/Gothic-Lolita-Basic-Short/Detail
It's basically the same outfit the models have on.

I haven't decided on any accessories, and I am not sure if I want to wear a wig. I'm honestly not that committed(yet), so I'm not sure about the wig.

Anyway, any helpful advice would be lovely. I'm mostly looking for info about if the outfit is alright, or what kind of accessories would be good. Thanks!

Yeah, so you forgot to ask the seller something that was important to you. Your lookout. Did you think about checking hellolace and lolibrary for dresses of similar style? Most IW dresses of similar style seem to come from the same basic pattern and IW's standard "short" skirt length is around 55cm, therefore a petti 45-50cm long is about right (remembering of course that you don't want your petti to sit right on your natural waist as that would create bulk right under the belt). It's obviously an A-line dress as well, since there are no gathers at the waist, so an A-line petti that's about 45-oddcm long is what you're looking for.

I've so far decided to put pics of my coords on there, my own text posts and so on but I was wondering if I should put photo collages of my recent orders onto there? The pics aren't always my own (they tend to be stock images) but I wasn't too sure if that would be appropriate for there?

I know it's a snafu in lolita to wear a dress or skirt with measurements smaller than your own natural ones, but is there some sort of grace length? Like, a few centimeters off from yours?

>> No.6738815

>>6738811
First off you might not be very comfortable or even be able to wear the garment if it's smaller than you. It depends mostly on which part is too small. If the waist is a bit too small but your ribcage fits you can get into it usually, but if it's too small over your ribs you might not be able to zip it up at all, and if you do you might get a boobloaf. This differs from person to person though, some people are squishier in the boob area or in the waist, some can't bear to wear things that are constricting at all. I suggest, for the sake of your garment and your looks, that you avoid buying things that are too small.

When paying for orders through closet child (after your first no-hold one) do you just send them an email asking for the invoice in order to pay?
Or do they just send the invoice to you automatically after the month long hold period?

>> No.6738960

>>6738811
I get things that are too small often because I really love the item and hope it will look good anyway. I usually can make it fit and it looks ok, and most people can't tell it's too tight but then it's rather uncomfortable so that makes me not want to wear it much which results in me ultimately selling it. This cycle usually takes me about a year because in that time I've probably worn it 2 or 3 times and the love for it has cooled off.

It also depends on your body type. If the limiting factor is your pudge, the item might look bad if you try to stuff it in. If it's your bones, then it'll probably look ok but just be uncomfortable for you.

Another thing to consider is how long you wear lolita per outing. Some people just go to lunch and then home to take it off immediately so having it be tight is no big deal. Others save lolita for meetups and go out all day in it which is very tiring and even worse with a constricting dress.

Plus size or at least big bust: I own a couple of Forever 21 chiffon blouses, but sometimes it's really hard to tell if it will fit your bust since the website doesn't list the sizing for large and not all stores tend to have items in stock (and good luck finding them, mine are always a wreck from the ghetto ladies running through them ripping the place to shreds without a care in the world). Usually if it's small and the bust is around 38" and appears to be loose fitting on the model, it should fit up to about 40" to 41" (100-104cm thereabouts). I thrift some blouses too. I've found some gorgeous chiffon blouses and boleros at thrift stores that fit my massive titties, but you also have to wade through pit stains. Hi, lolita general! I'm thinking about getting my very first dress from IW, and I was wondering if anyone had any advice/opinions? These are the four I'm deciding between.

>> No.6740179

>>6740161

If you have broad shoulders, DO NOT BUY THE OPs.

I'd pick a JSK over an OP anyway as you have more coord options which is great for a first dress. The wine is probably more versatile than the plaid, as you could pair it with a lot of interesting colours; cream, navy, lavender, chocolate brown etc.

>> No.6740183

>>6740161
My opinion:
I think the first one is a bit difficult to coordinate for a beginner because of the odd shape; OP's can be tricky also as beginner pieces because there isn't as many options for coordinating them. So imo your best option would be the plaid JSK- even though it's a strange color and a halter which I think can also be tricky, you can coord it with different blouses for different looks, something you can't do as easily with OP's.

Second choice would be the bottom right OP, since it can be coorded two ways (assuming sleeves are detachable).

OK, lay it on me /cgl/. I'm going to start building a lolita closet, and my first purchase will be the bell shaped petticoat from Classical Puppets, of course.
However, I have this dress, and I want to know if you guys think it can be considered lolita? The reason I'm wondering is the top of the dress has a halter neckline, which isn't the usual. Just in case you're still here anon I have some extra info/advice for you!

Here goes:

The Antique Tartan jsk (bottom left) is really cute irl (This is coming from someone who has always said they've disliked plaid.)

I have it in blue and the colours of the stock pic are rather off when compared to the dress irl. The brown on the dress is a nice dark choc colour and there are also dark red and off white colours running through the plaid.
Part of the reason why I love it though is because it's pretty versatile.
I can coord it in a really classic way with brogues, a blazer and a leather bag or I can add a more sweet and playful vibe by using choc coloured/themed AP accessories.

It's the best option out of the dresses you showed imho (especially because it doesn't leave me boob loafy like other IW Jsks and ops)

Thanks for all the help, everyone!

If you want a-line, I have a Hell Bunny petticoat that's held up well for over a year. You can get them in most 'edgy' shops (you probably know the ones I mean) that carry Hell Bunny dresses, or they're on EBay, usually for around £25. Be careful if you're tall, though. I'm 5'3" and the knee-lenth one hits me a centimetre or so above the knee.

I ordered from Closet Child over a week ago, and they still haven't emailed me an invoice. Is it slow because they just had a sale? Last time I ordered it only took four days, and I know it can take about a week...

Good luck anon!

I'm guessing that the sale + the fact they don't have a huge amount of english speaking staff is probably why they're behind.
In all honesty don't sweat it anon, give it a bit longer and if it still doesn't come in shoot them an email.

I wouldn't sweat it just yet, it took then six days to get back to me without a sale going on. I'm a little agitated that I missed out on throwing some sale items in with my order though, they invoiced me the day the sale started, haha.
