In theory, yes. However, in this world where replicas do exist (and I have NO doubt that this will be replicated) this much scarcity will drive many people to purchase it who would have gladly purchased the real item instead.
I am not saying that replicas are fine and wonderful, but I can see how people won't care about fucking over a brand who they feel has done the same to them.
The scarcity is also souring many peoples' feelings towards AP. One friend of mine- who has been a devoted AP wearer for many years- has admitted that she may be giving up on AP. I think part of the issue is that there is SUCH a huge divide between what does well and what doesn't. I mean, some things go on clearance months later and some things sell out in minutes. I'm sure the designers at AP aren't sitting there going "Ok, now I have to design something mediocre".

While I realize the designers aren't sitting around thinking of crummy prints, they do know what sells. They are aware of how to promote it, and work up a hype.

There are tried and true prints, and while some people may argue that AP will try to keep things fresh and new in spite of the fact it may not sell well, you'd have to have your head stuck in the sand to think they (and many other bands) don't recycle the same shit again and again with fairly minute changes.

Pretty colors and ponies are going to sell well no matter what, and with the advertising they did they knew DDC would be a hit.

I don't know. I feel like the Japanese brands tend to be more ignore-it-until-it-goes-away, until they get fed up enough. AP has started getting progressively rougher about it (No replicas at parties, no bodyline at parties, statement on the home page, contacting EGL....). It sounds kind of like a really patient teacher right before she just totally snaps.

At this rate I believe they actively restrict the first release to hype up the print, then they'll relent and do a re-release just to have the girls who were crying about not getting it during initial release overbuy because of feeling frustrated. I also believe they won't curtail the scalpers, because it gains them reputation as the print that went for "how much?!?!!!! and girls were fighting each other in the streets to get it?!??!!!" so girls will want it more.

Bitches should just move to a pre-order reservation system already, not like they don't have Baby's or JetJ's system to copy from. That probably just means that it's a common lace pattern. Not all of APs lace is custom made, some of it is generic lace. That said, that doesn't necessarily mean they are getting it from the same source as bodyline, since many of the super common lace patterns are public domain. So it may or may not be the same lace / same quality lace.

It's actually pretty common to see lace and non-custom print fabric used by multiple brands, especially the smaller classic brands, smaller indie brands, and bodyline.

I hate to break it to you, but BTSSB and IWs preorders are the same as APs. I've pre-ordered things from both brands and had to settle for second choice of color/cut because they sold out in under 5 min (Baby) and to their VIP customers before it was put online (IW).

It's very rare for IW to do a pre-order like that; usually it's just for their super expensive collabs, and they do those pre-orders instead of stocking it like normal. TBH, I think it's them trying to keep from over producing, not under producing.
