What are some of your favorite gal-friendly lashes? I normally buy the bulk lashes on ebay, but I've been experimenting with drugstore ones lately. They only come one per package which is great if you want to try something new. (And not get saddled with a ton of lashes you don't like)

I've tried so far: Ardell Demi 102s, the new Edgy 402s, Demi Wispies and the Double Up 201s

Also, can anyone recommend any bulk lash ebay sellers? I've been using one seller for the longest time, but after a bad experience, I think I might be ready for a break. I've seen a few stores I like the look of, but I want to know what other people think.

Stitch is really bizarrely popular in Japan, I still don't understand why. They clearly don't give a shit about Lilo, just Stitch. I saw some gay Japanese porno where they had scenes with the actors showing off their apartments or something, and one guy owned Stitch EVERYTHING, pillows, blankets, toys, and so on all over the place.

Okay good. It's probably taking a while to spread overseas since I feel like I still see them on lots of western gal. I'm glad it's dying off because not many of them look good with the tare me.

On the other hand, tanning seems to be coming back a bit too. I know a lot of people argue that tanning isn't a must for gyaru and there are a lot of models who don't tan, but there's a difference between pale and pasty imho.

Pic related. Charlotte is what I would call 'pale' without being eye-blindingly so. Her skin as a slight glow to it, if that makes sense.

A light tan like that would help some of the western girls whose looks need a bit more "oomph"; I wish more of them would do it. All it takes is one of those really subtle '3 shades darker' lotions you can buy at the drug store. It makes revealing clothes look better, too.

Hello. Can someone tell me what the main components of a gyaru outfit are? I mean, whenever I see pictures of people dressing in the gyaru style, they look nice, but it doesn't look like much more than Asian girls trying to look more Western. What's the basic point/idea of it?

A lot of the looks seem to have an over-arching theme of hyper-exaggerated femininity and in some cases, even sexuality. So much so that one member of the community says he likes it because it's like dressing in drag. But the basic point/idea varies from style to style and even depending on who you ask.

For a lot of Japanese females, it started out as a rebellion against the standard of beauty in Japan (ie. pale skin, modest clothes, natural hair and makeup, etc.). I'm not sure how much of it was a conscious decision to look "Western", though.

I admit that you could argue it's taking OUR standard of beauty and exaggerating it to almost a caricature, though. That could very well be the reason some Western gals wear the style.

Most of the ones I've spoken to say they just like the way it looks. It could also appeal to a lot of them because certain elements of it can be over the top and flashy, but not quite as "out there" as other fashion subcultures.

At the end of the day though, I don't think fashion has to have a "point". Just liking a certain look and being happy wearing it is enough.

Any hair tips for gyaru who have short - medium length thin hair?
I, unfortunately, can't afford extensions at the moment, so I'm looking for cute hairstyles to wear until I can. I'm starting to get back into gyaru full-time, as it makes me feel extremely good about myself.

Also, are there any makeup tips for people with tapered and hooded eyes? I can't make any specific shapes with my eyeliner on my eyelid because when I relax my face, the skin above makes my lid look like pic related. Wearing false lashes usually solves this problem, since they generally hide the shape of my eyelid, but I'd like to do more natural/casual makeup sometimes, too.

What is your current hair style and face shape? Is your hair naturally thick, fine, thin or curly? What are you willing to do in terms of upkeep (dying, styling, etc.)?

Sorry for the flood of questions, but it will help me give better advice that is more specific to your particular needs. Knowing your favorite style of gal might help, too.

As for your eyes, I know some people with hooded lids use eyelid tape to change the position of their crease or the shape of their lids. I think there is a tutorial around here somewhere. Either on this thread, the makeup thread or the doll thread.

My friend has hooded lids (some people call them "bedroom eyes") and she applies her eye makeup like this:

a strong highlight on her inner corners, a pop of color on the lid, a medium toned shadow above the crease and darker shadow in the outer corners.

Obviously, there are several ways to do it. That's just one way. I don't have hooded lids myself and I'm not an expert, but there are tons of good tutorials online.

I have short/medium length thin hair, and when I style it, I can get it super big and voluminous. I follow a lot of visual-kei hair tutorials, then curl/style pieces to make it more feminine. Layers help!

For products, I use a combination of the green Gatsby, hair spray, curling mousse, dry wax, and styling wax. Typically I shower, apply small amounts of curling mousse, and Gatsby to the roots, and then blow-dry my hair upside down. Then I mist with dry wax, and hairspray. I then use the styling wax to section and twist my short upper layers to get that effect many gals have. Finally I curl and straighten what I think needs to be fixed and finish with hairspray.

I'm also cursed with the hooded eyes, similar to what you posted. I wear very large circle lenses, and then create a fake crease above my real crease with a combination of eyeshadow and gel-based liquid eyeliner (I use Yves Saint Laurent! Works wonders!) It helps to enlarge the eye!

>>6714014
Is right though. My routine works for me and my face, body, etc. but everyone is different even if we have similar features.

Hope this helped some!

>What is your current hair style and face shape?
Hairstyle is shoulder-length, somewhat layered, and wavy.
My face shape is oval, I believe.

>Is your hair naturally thick, fine, thin or curly?
My hair is naturally thin and wavy.

>What are you willing to do in terms of upkeep (dying, styling, etc.)?
Pretty much everything. I'm currently working on bleaching my hair again, and since I've discovered coconut oil, I'll be able to keep up with bleaching with confidence.
Styling isn't too big of an issue, either. I've taken to giving myself a couple hours before work/going out to get myself ready.

Favorite style of gal tends to be Onee or Rokku.

I appreciate the questions, actually. I haven't been able to get any help yet!

It's funny, I actually recently bought some eyelid tape, but I can't get it to work out for me. It always unsticks itself, or becomes visible after I blink a few times! Maybe I'm putting it on wrong, or maybe I need to trim them?

Thanks for the tips! And to be honest, I haven't found many good tutorials featuring people that have this kind of eye... Lots of people that do makeup I like are blessed with parallel eyelids and it makes it hard to find a good tutorial! If you can recommend any, I'd be extremely thankful. <3

Not person who posted the pic, but I'm a monolid with deep set eyes who has to use double eyelid tape every time I want makeup to show (and it also makes my eyes larger and rounder). There are a few different shapes, and the quality can be variable too.

Some come as stickers, and others are straight, almost like string. You can trim both to suit your eye shape (before applying for the sticker ones, after for some of the tapes), but I'd advise finding some that don't require trimming to save time. Some come pre-coloured in tans, browns or black, and some don't stay on as long, can be harder to apply or don't hold makeup well. My advice is to just buy a bunch of shapes/brands/colours and experiment.

Something like this might be cute.

I had something similar to that not long ago. You can always curl it differently, clip the bangs back, dress it up with a headband/bow or even straighten it. Straight, sleek hair that still has some volume seems to be growing in popularity, especially in styles like ora ora gal.

As for color, if the eye in your original post is yours, you would look best in ash-y, cool-toned hair colors. If you can, that silver-grey color that's in right now would also look great. It really compliments blue eyes. It also looks awesome with a tan and summer is coming.

As far as sales go, you're pretty much out of luck, because brands have just started releasing their spring collections. The big sales to get rid of winter stuff were all in January and February.

That sucks, did it come with a prong/stick kind of thing? Some eyelid tapes come with a little application + pushing stick, but I find that they usually just have weak adhesive. There's also eyelid glue that comes with the stick to push the crease into your eyelid after applying the glue, but it doesn't last very long for me.

Try washing and drying your face beforehand, so that there's minimal dead skin on your eyelids and so they are clean and dry. If that doesn't work, you might have to keep shopping around. Daiso japan stores have a pretty good range of eyelid stickers, some are weak but one kind I tried were so strong it hurt like waxing yanking them off after a long day.

Mmm, yeah, i'll probably keep shopping around when I can. I make sure to wash/dry my face as well as use oil blotting sheets just in case. I don't have oily skin in general, but I like to make sure I cover every base, haha.

Unfortunately, I do not. It looks like she used a curling wand with a thin barrel, back combed slightly at the roots and then used wax to get the strands to separate.

There are some host/visual kei tutorials on youtube that use similar methods, but I can't seem to find them.

My own hair is about the same length as>>6715165 and I'm not sure what to do with it. It's in that awkward, inbetween stage where you can't do a lot of styles for long hair (braids, up-dos) and yet a lot of the styling techniques used for short hair don't work either.

I prefer simpler, low-maintenance styles for my day to day life, but will go all-out when I'm hanging out with friends. I usually wind up throwing it in a ponytail when I'm working and I'm really starting to hate that.

I don't have the face to go super short, but I want to get it cut short enough to stop me from putting it in a ponytail.

Suggestions? I was thinking something like this since I look best without strong bangs and have a heart-shaped face.

Oh, I get you now. It takes some trial and error, but eventually, you'll find something.

My friend, though not gyaru, is really dark and she had this problem. I'm not sure what kind of makeup you're using, but my friend said she had an easier time of it after switching to high end primers, eyeshadows and contouring kits.

There are TONS of good black gals on youtube that post tutorials. Lisha's channel is still the most popular, I think. Her channel's name is Lishanala.

There is even a youtube channel dedicated to black gyaru. If you type in those keywords on youtube search, the BlackGyaru channel comes right up along with many other users. The channel itself has collected some of the most useful tutorials and product recommendations.

The contributors have blogs and their own channels that I think are listed in the description of their videos. Also, you definitely should check out lovelyxmiyabi's blogspot.

She is hands-down one of my favorite gals. It's not letting me post URLS for some reason, but if you type "Miyabugyaru" into google search, she's the first result. You should also check the black gyaru tag on tumblr.

Hopefully, that helped.

The funniest part was that she had something against lesbian/bisexual gyarus or at least couldn't understand how you could be both at the same time. I loved posting pictures that were kind of homoerotic or just straight up gals kissing because she would get mad.

Does anyone know if Liz lisa dresses and clothing fit the same for the most part? I was in store, clearly not intrested but to a friend a size or two bigger then i assume was told "one size only" as she was browsing while another friend was shopping and they helped her pick out clothes to try on that would look good. Im farmilar with lolita and can fit brand dresses easily but lolita can range in sizes depending on dress. Is liz lisa and other gal brings the same way? Im mostly interested in their floral dresses not so much becoming gal

any advice for a gal look with fairly simply/ not over the top makeup? i want to do more of a gal look at work but i have such a baby face that too much dramatic makeup makes me look like a little kid trying to look like an adult

It is "one size only" but a lot of their items are oversize or have elastic waist. Depends on the individual item.

I think it's less about the technique and more about doing your own research for colors.
If the tutorial person is five shades lighter than you maybe get make up that much darker than what she uses, you know? Like if she uses an off white shimmery color for something, you might need deep gold/tan shimmery color. If she uses a baby pink maybe you need a deeper pink that's more rosy or even magenta. Go for the effect she's going for, not the exact same colors.

There are plenty of gals with baby faces who pull it off. While she doesn't have that face type, Tsubasa Masuwaka's makeup is definitely like that. Here's what I do when I want to tone down my makeup:

1. Go with a pair of subtle, natural looking lenses.
2. Choose a less dramatic top lash. Crisscross lashes are still very gal but much more natural looking
3. Use a neutral palette for eyeshadow
4. Keep the thin, elongated upper eyeline, but use a dark brown shadow on my lower lid in place of liner.
5. GO EASY ON THE BLUSH
6. Choose a subtle pinky nude lip color that isn't too opaque.
7. Keep hairstyle cute and simple and don't go for any elaborate styles. Curls, waves, cute updos and accessories are your friends.
8. Since the hair & makeup is toned down, choose a really cute outfit in your style of choice

Contouring can make your face look slimmer and less babyish. Especially at your cheeks, jaw and temple. It doesn't have to be super harsh, either. Also, your hair cut, style and color can make you look older without seeming like you're trying too hard.

thanks for the advice!
do you happen to have any product recommendations for contouring? i havent really found one i like, but honestly i havent tried too many.
and as for hairstyles i can do curls but my hair is really short [to the top of my ear of one side and about an inch past the bottom of my ear on the other] but im growing it out so i can manage some better styles

You're welcome!

Finding the perfect contouring product is something I'm still working on and it is apt to change in the future. For subtle contouring, I really like matte bronzers. Sephora makes a good one.

So I have a makeup question:

My face always tans significantly lighter than my body. (Even with self-tanners because of exfoliation, cleansing and whatnot.)

And when I say significant, I mean significant. Like, my body is the color of the girl on the right, but my face is like the girl on the left's. That hasn't been a problem in the past, but lately I've been wanting to switch from my usual Missha BB cream to Skin79. Their BBs only come in one shade. I'm not familiar with their products so I wanted to ask: would applying it and then using a matte bronzer to even it out be caking too much on my face?

It's a shame that there aren't any decent "Western" BB creams that can stand up to their Korean counterparts. They have the color variety I need, but all the ones I've seen just look like tinted moisturizer to me.

You can find pieces that work locally, definitely. However, much of Western clothing lacks that extra oomph that Japanese brand clothing has, so I think many gals choose to import their clothing. You can also check outfit rundowns in magazines to see what Western brands they tend to wear more frequently, and gravitate towards them to avoid the hassle of SS and customs!

Tare me is the correct romanization because they're two separate words. In Japanese, it's all together because they don't use spaces.
