Skirt's too long on Jane, and I'm not reaaaaally feeling the blue tulle--ruffles would look nicer. The sleeves are also not puffed and don't have the blue piping they're supposed to. The sneakers should really be pink as well, the red contrasts a little strangely. I would also make the blue cheek circles stand out more, and wear some peachy pink lip gloss as well to really make the crazy trickster face pop.

I really like the Jane's face for it though, so with some improvement she could be great!

cgl and especially HSG has this habit of calling every single ftm that isn't really manly a "fake transboi".
While there are of course people who do it for "the attention" it NEVER is that easy. It is more often than not more confusion than desire for attention. Of course, the desire for uniqueness can be in the bottom of it, but I honestly doubt if any of these "fake transbois" said to themselves "oh, I'm going to claim to belong to a different gender so people will give me attention".

I have said this before, and I will say it again.
Cosplay is one of THE best platforms for experimenting with your identity, and homestuck ESPECIALLY is because of the equal number of male/female characters, which all are reasonably easy to cosplay. You can try on a lot of different identities, and some will simply feel more right than others.

Imagine a girl who has been forced by society into a narrow female role, she might always have felt like it was wrong for her but never cared to elaborate on it. And then for a few hours she experiences being "John" instead. And while it might not be the perfect fit for her either chances are she will feel much freer simply because of the change.
The female role is a narrow one, and if you don't feel like you fullfill it you might not feel like a real girl. And in that case it might be easier to identify yourself as a guy instead. This might also be why a lot of these "fake transbois"aren't usually that masculine, they aren't aiming to look masculine but rather to feel more comfortable with themselves.

In a lot of cases it will be a phase for these people to find themselves, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't respect that, just because their identification is temporary doesn't make it less real. Because YOU have no right to tell them they are wrong in how they make this journey. If they aren't actually trans they will realize that rather soon.

This is a really good point. I thought I was trans for years because I was an ugly, masculine girl and society said that you weren't allowed to be an ugly girl. It took me a long time to realise that I only felt liek a boy becsause I felt like a failure as a girl.

If you can find a sort of off-black, you could be fine. Otherwise, it might not hurt to go with full black and try to adjust the fabrics to match the new saturation.

alternatively: don't bother with the cardboard template, just stick your hand in the sock inside out, pin it in place, draw some lines between your fingers, sew it with a piece of tracing paper under (or two sheets of tissue paper) and have no fears of going through the cardboard or stretching your fabric or navigating corners. the paper tears away really easily but protects the nylon from the feed dog

That aside, frecklekats can be cute if not overdone. Just make sure you don't make giant circles on your face. For best results, flick a liquid make up on your face. It'll speckle naturally without giving you an overly makeuped look.

So I'm working on a photo manipulation.

I'm looking for high resolution pictures of good dave cosplayers with a clear view of their face. Preferably with a more serious expression, although that tends to be par for the course for Dave.

It's a project for one of my classes, and I'm having trouble finding large enough pictures of decent quality.

The picture here is it's final size, although larger pictures are better for masking out the background.

If anyone has anything stuck away on their hard drive or internet favorites, the help would be much appreciated.

Do thin layers; blowdry them between. Don't try and do your own shoulders/back, an assistant will save a lot of time/frustration. Mix a little more Pros Aide to Paint, 60:40 stayed better than 50:50. Use disposible brushes to apply it. I like the kind with the black foam heads, you get 20 for 5 bucks. Similarly mix in disposible containers, plastic cups or something. A little but goes further than you'd think. Baby powder works better than the Ben Nye stuff and is way cheaper. A lot of powder doesn't go nearly as far as you'd think. Do your hands last. Do one side and powder before moving to the other. Don't use it on your face. Invest in some shitty dollar store towels and remover. Shave anything you're putting it on even if the hair is fine or invisible. Waxing first is even better.

Yes, Homestuck for homework. It really fit the bill for the assignment. It's mostly about masking and layer adjustments, which the fantasy lands in Homestuck were perfect for.

Yes. Sorry to disappoint. Working on it.

I added heavy copper wire to the bottom rung for better support. I'm going to take in the middle rungs to keep them from bulging. But also, the cage got run into and crushed a lot at the con, especially when I had to go up stairs between railings. (Like on the way onto the stage). It can be easily bent back into shape, but there were times when I didn't get a chance before someone snapped a photo.

The costume has a lot of problems. If you have any specific advice on how to solve them, I'd appreciate it. Especially wig recommendations. (New stockings are already in the works). Thanks.

so does anyone have a good guide/tips for styling the kind of spikes into wigs that people like to do for sprite-accurate homestuck cosplays? it's for demimonde semigoddess and i've got the waviness of the hair and the swirly bangs thing down but I want to do some shorter pointy parts on it. Whenever I try, they look like anime antenna-hair things, how do I get a smooth point? Pic related, I'm thinking something like what John's got going on here. How do I go about that? The method can be permanent since this wig will never be repurposed.

Wow, I really love the colors and construction on this dress. It looks so comfortable.

I do, actually. To get accurate spikes in a wig isn't just about pulling the wig and spraying it with hair spray. It takes some practice, but with time you'll be a professional at it!

Take the piece of of the wig you want to spike. Use a COMB nd tease the piece down a little. this'll help give it the spike and lift in needs. A lot of people use glue, but you can also use styling wax or 'styling glue' by Got2Be. Basically use the glue and help style the teased spike into a more smoother shape, then hairspray and blow dry it. Usually to give it more depth/layering, you'd wanna cut/trim the tip of the spike.

Again, if you're new to wig styling, it just takes a little practice but you'll be able to do it! =)

Cutting with a hair razor helps a lot with the shaping, too. You can get them at Sally's or other beauty supply stores for a good price.
