This.

The shop that is now called The Virgin Mary used to be called Cult Party, and they originated the style.

It is, literally, "Cult Party-style", like you'd describe something as being "Hollister style" or whatever.

That specific outfit was more of a mori inspired classic Lolita outfit, since the skirt and top were IW. I was a bit too nervous to attempt full on Mori, but I will keep all of that in mind for when I do! Thanks! I'm just learning how to knit and have been working on a dozen scarves.

The shoes in that are a low wedge wingtip mary jane. I assume that works fine? I'm keeping my eye out for some new ankle boots or oxfords, too, since almost all of my shoes are black right now.

this might be a stupid question, but is there a site anywhere or something that outlines the staples of mori style? I want to try to update my style from boring office clothes to kind of a mori/dolly hybrid, but I have no fucking clue what kind of shoes to wear.
Most of the things I like seem underwhelming or kind of too loli.

I think lace up flat knee boots would be perfect for a lot of the stuff I have in mind, but my calves are super wide. Same problem with calf lace up combat boots like you can find everywhere now... they look bad on wide calves.

I guess it's a small price to pay for going from morbidly obese to approaching normalweight.

Mori girl is different from lolita in that you're not really going to find any hard-set rules or standard items that complete an outfit -- just a loose, layered silhouette and rustic, woodsy atmosphere as the goal, mostly. The checklist explains the feel you should be going for, so looking at pictures and seeing where things from the checklist fit into those will probably help you to get a stronger grasp on the style. You could try asking ohyeahmorigirl on Tumblr for advice if you need a better idea, though.

I've successfully bought from both onepi-c and Nashare. As the previous anon commented, you get two confirmation e-mails(if you have gmail you have the option to have it translated) you let them know that the order is correct, they charge your card, and then you'll eventually get an e-mail with your tracking number(onepi-c is rather quick, while Nashare takes it's sweet time when it comes to charging your card so always make sure you have enough!) They always use EMS, there's no other form of shipping(as far as I know)

Another store I really like is Springdays, they take Paypal(they e-mail you with the total and a link to pay them)

Have fun shopping!

I really like both mori and dolly, but I'm a bit chubby, I would need to wear a belt or define my waist a bit. And... I'm an autumn. I'd probably favor sage green, brown, and plum above cream.

I think if I tried this style I'd just end up looking like a bad version of hipster fashion.

I think that dress is pretty easy to mori-up, since its color is rather muted/neutral in tone. Maybe layer a sweater on top, with ankle boots (with fur?) and a different kind of head wear (earmuffs? a knit cap? scarf?). Thing about mori is that it is pretty versatile and easy to interpret.

Um, no. That is not even Himekaji, and Otome is another level above Himekaji.
That outfit is just cute, but doesn't come under any J-fashion style.

>> No.6737420

>>6737391
You'll need to list definitions then because that is a light, feminine dress, that's not revealing or with an overstated pattern with tights with coordinated accessories. Last I checked, that's pretty otome (the only thing missing is a sweater/cardigan, which I know is less of a rule but more of a guideline.)

No one has ever mentioned Himekaji in an otomei thread before and a quick google search shows that it looks almost nothing like otome. If you're trolling, do it harder.

I never said the aesthetic wasn't common (mori was a common thing a couple of years ago, a little less so now) only that image could be classified as such, or at least used as inspiration for an otome coord. But you're still not defining otome, or telling me that my definition isn't wrong. I'm only going off of what I've read in threads here and some places online, mind you otome is one of those fashions that doesn't have a set of rules (as there are otome coords that involved pants/jeans) unlike lolita.

>> No.6737799

>>6737698
Why do people think otome is just this nebulous rule-free thing? It does have rules, it just doesn't have a strict silhouette.

The point of the fashion is to look: cute, feminine, colorful, and vintage. Often the prints have a "European" feel, specifically French or British. If the idea of Mori is to look like a girl from the Scandinavian woods, the point of Otome is to look like a happy 50s/60s European young maiden. It doesn't have a strict silhouette like Lolita, so you can get full skirts, minis, salopettes, even shorts/pants sometimes, but there's meant to be bright happy prints, lots of colors... look up Emily Temple Cute, Jane Marple, and Milk for what I am talking about. That beige outfit, while cute, is not really specific enough to be otome-kei.

Thank you. I've actually never seen it specified like that before, mostly because it's another one of those 'feeling' fashions (though vintage is a new description for it. There has defiantly been some otome coords that aren't vintage in feel.)

That beige outfit isn't himekaji either however.

>> No.6737830

>>6737799
I really don't think so. Otome is just about looking like a "young lady". The only rules are "be feminine" and "be modest". Some otome coords aren't neither "happy" nor "vintage".

6737834

>>6737830
When I say vintage I don't mean the outfit overall. I mean the prints. Polka dots, bows, even the color schemes, are very influenced by 50s and 60s textiles and fashion. (Sometimes the prints are based on things like hankies, dishtowels, etc. more than actual dresses.) Sure not every single coord ever is happy - some of Jane Marple's outfits specifically are kind of sullen. But I am generalizing. Just as in Lolita, you have this continnuum of cute and elegant. Some classical outfits on one end, AP style sweet on the other. I'm just saying not every "young lady" outfit is otome, there has to be some additional quality to the coordinate besides that, or you could just wear a cotton dress from the Gap and mary janes and be otome, which is not the case.

You may want to say 'vintage pattern' then. To be honest to only thing that hasn't been mentioned is the fact that otome is more likely to mix patterns then most other styles which are more likely to theme. Otome is one of the easier styles to coord with off-brand pieces so coording with a dress from the Gap isn't impossible, regardless if you pair it with brand items or not,

>> No.6737861

True, both of you have are good points - I was trying to summarize something I'd never actually written out before, just stuff I've observed and thoughts in my head, and you picked up on some details I was glossing over/overlooking. I did mean vintage pattern/color more than dress shape etc. And you can totally coordinate offbrand, that is true. And about pattern mixing, one thing I've noticed is since a lot of western otome coordinates are done by lolitas, they tend to go way matchier than I've seen in Japanese coords. Okay I'll stop rambling now cause this wasn't even an otome thread but if JM-picture having anon wants to post in a thread later I'd be jazzed to see them!
